AN: Hey guys, sorry it's been so long, its been CRAZY busy! Anyway, I know that this is a short chapter, considering how long my other ones are, but I wanted to let you guys go ahead and read it, because I'm not sure when I'm gonna be able to write more. Between work and school, I'm not gonna have much time. So anyway, I hope you guys enjoy this and as always, please read and review!
Wisdom, Justice, and Love Yusuke ran frantically, his heart pounding in his chest, his power intensifying with every step he took. For a few moments after the attack, his mind stopped thinking in words, instead the void was filled with boiling hot emotions so strong that it threatened to turn Yusuke into nothing more than a snarling, instinctual creature. Right before he hit his breaking point, he looked over, and saw Kurama running next to him, and he was filled with an overwhelming surge of relief. He was reminded that he was no longer a teenager fending for himself, he had Kurama by his side, and beyond that he had Yoko. He looked on his other side and saw Hiei, Kuwabara, and Genkai next to him as well. For a nanosecond, he found himself feeling nostalgic for the days of the Dark Tournament and Sensui, after all, this was the first time in many years that Team Urameshi came together to defeat a threat. Yusuke’s stomach dropped as he was reminded that his kit’s lives were on the line. Stubborn determination set root in him, and the only thing he could think about was how he was going to make these demons pay for daring to take him on. “Hiei,” Yusuke yelled, “will you go ahead of us, and help Hokoushin?” Hiei didn’t respond, but instead just followed Yusuke’s instructions. They were now no more than 300 yards from the castle, and the battle ground was starting to become disturbingly clear. The invading demons were extremely strong, a-class or above, and yet they had the savage nature and intelligence of the demons lowest on the makai totem pole. Hokoushin had said there were 20 of them, but as they got closer they saw an invading hoard of 200 plus demons were coming down the hill towards them. “Kuwabara! Genkai! Go protect the kits, the humans, and the non-fighters in the castle!” Kuwabara nodded, and together with Genkai stormed into the castle. Yusuke looked over to Kurama for support as they approached the edge of the battlefield. They gave each other a nod of encouragement, and both of them boosted their energies and took on their demon forms. Yusuke charged into the battlefield, using a honed version of his shotgun technique to hit only the invading demons. It was only strong enough to knock them on their ass, but that was all the time that Yusuke and his ally’s needed to pummel or obliterate the enemy. Hiei had now run further up the hill and let lose a Dragon of the Darkness flame that completely destroyed the latter half of the opposition. The battlefield was filled with screams of terror and battle cries. The sun began to rise over the horizon, and the light from the red sun mingled with the light and smoke from the yellow fire that created an eerie shadow over the fight. Nothing seemed to reflect the light that was shining on them, save for the pools of blood that now covered the sand. Over the sound of the mayhem of the battlefield, Yusuke and Kurama heard one terrified, blood-curdling scream that came from the castle. Yusuke and Yoko spun around, destroying anyone in their path as they made their way into the castle. Yusuke’s stomach dropped as he saw Juichi unconscious on the floor and both Kuwabara and Genkai fending off multiple intruders while two demons attempted to drag Shizuru and Atsuko off into one of the adjacent rooms wicked, cruel smiles plastered on their faces. Yoko decapitated the demon harassing Shizuru with his whip as Yusuke smashed the other demons head against the wall. Yusuke heard one of his children suddenly cry out in pain and swirled around to see a horrendous demon with scraggly teeth grabbing at his kits. On Sachio’s arm there was a huge bleeding gash. Yusuke snarled and roared in anger, running at the demon full force. The demon was so startled that he dropped the kit and tried to run, but Yusuke jumped up, and slammed into him; the mazoku’s forearms crossed over the demons neck as he slammed him into the wall, crushing his wind pipe. Yusuke saw that the living room was finally clear of demons, but he could hear that more were trying to break in. “Kuwabara, Genkai, Yoko, take the kits, Juichi, Shizuru and Ma and go to the top story, I’m going to go outside and kill every last one of these fuckers!” “Wait Urameshi! I’m fucking slicing one or two of those bastards too!” Kuwabara shouted as he ran towards Yusuke. As they ran out the door they saw that only 20 of the opposing demons were left, and Jin and Touya were taking them down with relative ease as Touya froze them, and Jin shattered them with his wind. Hiei was making quick work of those that were attempting to run away. Yusuke ran up to a few those few that were within striking distance, that is if Kuwabara didn’t get to them first and hack them to bits. He looked up and saw that only one enemy demon was left alive, Rinku’s yoyos wrapped around the terrified demon, tripping him up. Rinku was about to finish the demon off when Yusuke yelled out, “wait, Rinku! Don’t kill that demon yet! I have questions for him.” Yusuke walked up slowly to the demon, who was shaking terror before the former makai lord. Hiei, Kuwabara, Yoko, Rinku, Jin, Touya and Hokoushin all gathered around Yusuke, glaring daggers at the shaking, sweating ball of nerves that was before them. “Please Lord Yusuke. Please don’t kill me. I didn’t want to come here, I didn’t but they made me.” “Oh, and who exactly is leading you?” “I don’t know…” The demon looked up and saw Yusuke giving him an incredulous look. “No really, I don’t. But I do know where the leaders are. I can lead you there if you like.” “No.” Yusuke said, shocking everyone. “No, I don’t want you to lead me to your bosses, believe me, I can find them whenever I want. I want you to do something else. Do you see this bloodshed around you? Do you see how easily we defeated you and all your little friends? I want you to go to your bosses and tell them exactly what happened here, let them know that Yusuke Urameshi will continue to hunt all of you down one by one and kill every last one until I have wiped you and your friends from existence. Now leave my sight before I decide to change my mind,” Yusuke growled, his energy swirling dangerously around him. The demon got up and ran, stumbling over his fallen comrades as he tried to get away from the battlefield. “Well Yusuke, I must say that I’m impressed, that was just the kind of mind-fuck I would have pulled back in the day,” Yoko said, a twisted smile on his face. “Yes well, I’m afraid I’m not sure if I should take that as a compliment or not,” Yusuke said dryly. He looked around at the mess of organs, limbs, and bodies that littered the field. “Hokoushin, To’o, Seitei, get together the other monks and let’s get this cleaned up and burned.” “Lord Urameshi…” Hokoushin said sadly, “I’m afraid To’o and 12 of the other monks have… passed away…” “What?!” Yusuke said, as everyone else gasped in surprise. For the first time since the battle began, Yusuke’s anger disappeared, and he was able to see clearly how badly they were all injured. Hokoushin had made a crude splint for his left arm which he was keeping close to his body. Kuwabara had a huge cut on his face and was keeping his weight off of one of his legs. Yoko had blood dripping from the corners of his mouth, and had a huge blue bruise on his arm. As he continued to look around, he noticed that not a single member of his impromptu army was in perfect condition, most of them were bruised, cut, had broken a bone or were missing teeth. Suddenly he felt a sharp pain in his side, and looked down to see a huge purple and red bruise on his bottom ribs, and as his adrenaline wore off he was feeling the full effect of having at least three cracked ribs. Yusuke suddenly turned around and started walking into the middle of the battlefield, his breathing becoming more difficult and more painful with every step. “Yusuke, waddya doin’ mate?” Jin asked worriedly. Yusuke stopped and turned to them, grief written on his face. “…These monks… they were my companions, friends, and equals. They were unwaveringly loyal to me, and I will not dishonor them by letting their bodies rot in the heat next to the scum that killed them.” He bent down and picked up To’o’s body, fighting the urge to grunt in pain as he started the rather long trip to the graveyard. Yusuke was surprised when he heard Yoko walk beside him, carrying another monk’s body. “Anyone that has been as loyal to you as they have, has been loyal to me as well,” Yoko said when Yusuke gave him a questioning look. Yusuke was shocked as he saw all of his friends bend down and pick up the bodies of the fallen monks as they carried them in a slow procession to their final resting place. Within an hour, they were able to dig all of their graves, and put the monks to rest. Yusuke stood before everyone and said, “I will not give a eulogy. Not yet. Not until I hunt down the bastards that did this and slit their throats. All I will say is that I’m sorry to have involved all of you in this. I’m sorry…” Yusuke said, trying to fight back tears. “Lord Urameshi, I think it’s time that we make our way back to the castle, we have to come up with a plan of attack,” Hokoushin said, his voice cracking from injury and grief. “Yes alright, it’s time for us to head back,” Yusuke replied, as he took one last look at the graves beside him. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Back in the castle, all of the fighters were collapsed on or around the couch as they all tried desperately to get some of their energy back. Hokoushin was upstairs in Juichi’s room lying beside her, both trying to stay as close as possible to her, and trying to recover some of his energy. Yusuke and Kurama had already put the kits back to bed, and they were sleeping soundly in their room. Atsuko and Shizuru were in the other room with the kits. Both of them were still extremely shaken about what almost happened to them. All they could think about was if Yusuke and Yoko hadn’t heard them scream or if they had gotten there just a few seconds later the unspeakable could have happened. Jin wanted so badly to go into the other room with Atsuko and try to comfort her, but Atsuko didn’t want Yusuke knowing that they were together, and Atsuko felt too shaken up to be around just about any man at that moment. Juichi was still unconscious and Genkai was too exhausted to heal, and so all any of them could do was tend to their wounds and wait for them to heal like normal people had to. Earlier with what little energy she had, Genkai tried to heal the gash on Sachio’s arm, but it proved to be difficult because the demon had used the same poison that had been used on Yusuke months before hand. Thankfully this poison was much weaker than the previous one, and so they were able to heal him some, but it looked like there was a good chance that he would have a permanent scar. Yusuke suddenly heard a knock on what was left of his front door, and he heard Koenma ask “Hello? Yusuke? Can I come in?” “Yeah Koenma, go ahead,” Yusuke shouted. Suddenly the door to the kits room burst open, and Shizuru stood there, angrier than any of them had ever seen her. She walked up to Koenma, who opened his arms to hug her, and slapped him as hard as she could on the cheek. “Shizuru! What was that for?” Koenma asked through clenched teeth as he bent over in pain. “I’ll tell you what that was for! If you hadn’t punked out, and grown a set of balls and told Yusuke what you knew months ago, this wouldn’t have been as big of a problem. I was almost raped you ass hole, all because you’re too much of a pussy to do your damn job!” Everyone sat stunned at the brunette left Koenma standing there and stormed back into her room. “Koenman…” Yusuke said, pausing to grunt in pain when he stood up. “What the hell is she talking about?” “Well, about 3 months ago, we found out that Rando escaped the Reikai prison. See, what we didn’t know was he had stolen a technique that allowed him to make a duplicate of himself. Apparently he escaped about 4 years ago, but we didn’t know until a few months ago, whenever we received some disturbing intel. There’s a reason we were never able to find him… as soon as he got out he gathered a small army and he took over the ice world. I don’t know how to say this other than to just say it… Yukina is the only full-blood ice-demon left living. Because the ice world stayed so isolated no one knew they needed to be rescued. Anyway… he wants to over throw Enki as king, but beyond that, he wants you dead Yusuke, and Kuwabara, he wants to finish you off.” “Koenma…” Yusuke said, his voice shaking with anger, “You really didn’t give me this information?” “You were pregnant and I didn’t want to upset yo-“ “SHUTUP!” Yusuke roared, “If you had told me this shit back then, then we would have known that Rando was behind the kidnapping! My kits were kidnapped, and Kurama almost died out there in the desert because you were too much of a fucking coward to tell me this! Because of your incompetence 13 of my men are dead, and look at the rest of us, we’re not too hot either.” Yusuke collapsed back down on his chair suddenly, his body was too exhausted and injured for him to be yelling like this, and his ribs were now screaming at him to calm down. “Koenman… You’re lucky I’m injured right now, or else I would kill you… and I’m not exaggerating.” “Yusuke… I have one more thing to tell you… Rando… he’s about ten times stronger than he was back then… and that’s not all. Someone helped him escape from prison, but we have no way of knowing who.” Yusuke was about to yell some more when in a moment that helped break the tension, Puu walked over to where Koenma stood and bit his calf. “Get him Puu!” Yusuke said, his anger, at least momentarily was lessened. Yusuke noticed though that one person wasn’t even paying attention to what was going on around him. Kuwabara had his head down and was rocking back and forth, his breathing heavy. “Kuwabara… are you okay?” Yusuke and Genkai both asked at the same time. “Yeah… I’m fine…” he said, but no one believed him for even a second. His skin was as pale as a ghost, and his whole body was tensed up. “No… I’m not fine,” He finally admitted. “I don’t know if I can go up against Rando… I’m sorry but I don’t. Last time I faced him… I’ve never before or since been in as much as pain as he put me through… But you need my help so of course I’ll be by your side, Urameshi.” Yusuke took a good look at his friend, and saw how torn he was. Kuwabara wanted to stand by Yusuke’s side, but Rando was someone that he didn’t want to fuck with, and considering that the only reason Yusuke beat him to begin with was because of sheer damn luck he really didn’t want to face him again. “Kuwabara, I know you want to help, and I appreciate the offer, but I don’t think I can accept it. This battle has made Kurama, Yoko and I realize that we can’t keep the kits, or our family here and be able to protect them. I know it’s a lot to ask man, but is there any way that you can take everyone back to the Ningenkai and protect them for us while we fight. It would make me feel so much better knowing that they have a babysitter,” Yusuke said with a sarcastic smile. “Fine, I’ll watch the kits Urameshi, but you owe me,” Kuwabara tried to conceal the relief that he was feeling, but once again no one was fooled. Yusuke looked up and saw Koenma was still standing awkwardly in the hallway, trying to figure out what exactly he should do. “Look man, I’m not happy with you, but you gotta go talk to your girl and make sure she’s okay. Right now she needs you more than I need to yell at you so go ahead, just one favor, can you get Boton down here, we are in serious need of some healing.” Koenma nodded before disappearing into the kits room. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Within half an hour Boton was down there and Genkai had been healed so she could start working on some of the others. It was slow work since almost everyone had been hurt in more than one place. Hiei was second to be healed so he could go inform Mokuro and Yomi as quickly as possible. By the time they got to Yusuke he had almost completely healed because of the spirit wave. Within three hours everyone was in perfect condition, everyone except Hokoushin, who was still in the room with Juichi, and refused to let anyone in to do anything but heal her. The problem was that they healed her concussion, but she was still knocked out for the time being. For the first time Yusuke saw his second in command acting like a wounded dog, crawling into his cave and refusing to come out. No one really knew how to react to his behavior but they all decided that it was probably best to just let him work through it for the time being. So he lay in his bed, holding Juichi as best as he could with his broken arm, staring into space, completely lost in thought. This had been one of the worst days of his life by far. His girlfriend was knocked out, and until she awoke they had no way of knowing what exactly happened to her. He felt like he failed as Yusuke’s second in command, after all he didn’t even know the army was approaching until they started attacking and he gave his lord incorrect information which made them believe it was not as dire a situation as it was. On top of all of that, he watched his best friend of 700 years die before him. Hokoushin cringed as the memory of To’o’s lifeless body fell to the ground, the sound of his last breaths, and the terrified look in his eyes. Hokoushin started crying into Juichi’s arm, wanting nothing more than to go back in time and save his friend. “Hon, why are you crying?” Juichi asked, her voice low and raspy as she came slowly came back to consciousness. Hokoushin’s head snapped up and he went to wrap his arms around her, but hissed in pain as his arm moved in the splint. “Hon, did you break your arm? You should get Genkai to look at it for you.” She said worriedly. “I’m good,” Hokoushin said through gritted teeth. “I’m just so glad you’re awake. What’s the last thing you remember?” “Well… I was in the kit’s room and suddenly I heard a loud noise, I went to go investigate, and there was this huge, brutish demon standing there, I called for help, he raised his hand to back hand me, and my head hit the wall… then I guess I blacked out. I’m fine now love, but how is everyone else? Did everyone make it out okay?” “… To’o and um… 12 other monks passed away…” He said lowly, his voice cracking from the strain of trying not to cry. “Oh babe… I am so so sorry,” she said, carefully wrapping her arms around him and doing all she could to make sure she didn’t disrupt his arm. “…He was my best-friend…. He didn’t deserve to die that way…” Hokoushin just put his head on Juichi’s shoulder as she held him close. As he wept she slowly healed his arm, doing all she could to help her love. Like I said, I'm sorry its so short, but I hope you guys like it all that same. I promise the next chapter will be action-packed with a few hot scenes in there to spice it up.
