Invocation
Chapter Ten
While Kurama still held the record, well title really, as the King of Thieves of all three worlds, his style didn't normally incorporate electronic devices. Spirit World and Demon World weren't into electronic security - though he knew it did exist it was in the minority. In places where electronic keypads or other such devices were used he could have broken into them to retrieve whatever item he was after regardless. Unfortunately he wasn't after any particular item when he had taken the card. He also needed to return the piece to you so he had gone to Spirit World to have it replicated.
Of course, even as he returned the card to where he had gotten it from, Spirit World found a way to replicate the code without it triggering your personal identification code. It had been a really fascinating thing and he'd almost been tempted to sit and watch as they worked out how to do that. It was one of the skills that he needed to take the time to learn for the future. Technology was quickly improving in all realms, especially in the human one. Despite the electronic locks not being prevalent quiet yet, Kurama had no doubt that one day they very well could be. And if he needed to do something again like this in the future then it would definitely be a good skill to pick up.
Sadly he didn't have the time; to accomplish what he needed to do he was forced to multitask. While Spirit world worked on altering the code after replication, he worked on returning the original to you. When he had done so, just before sunrise, you had still been asleep. He paused only for a second to take in the picture. Like most people, all guards were down as you slept. Kurama found that you didn't look that different in sleep compared to when he saw you during the day; there was a comfort in that.
Once the keycard was returned he'd gone back to Spirit World to collect the altered duplicate. Then it was on to the headquarters in the region. Kurama moved through the halls, taking special care to be on the lookout for areas which might have had cameras. The people tried to hide them by sticking them aimed down on the corner ceiling but he saw the half circle cut out in the roof before he moved down each hallway. As they were on swivels in the corner of most places he timed his movements based on their blindspots. And despite how early it was (the sun had just started to rise) there were still plenty of people coming and going in the building as well.
He practically became a blur of navy blue as he moved around the place, dodging cameras and people alike. Kurama moved from room to room looking for anything that stuck out as suspicious. What he found during the majority of his search, while personally interesting, he knew would hold no interest to Spirit World. He found a library which, after a quick search, held only Human World titles. He found a few different computer rooms which looked to be of industrial level but after inspection all modules were singular. It appeared as though it were some sort of room to teach people in. Most likely to teach the so called 'assets' computer skills. There were rooms with many different activities on the majority of the floors as well - pools, arcades, and the like. Those rooms did not even require access cards. He surmised from that, that they were open to the clients and assets at any point. It would be a good cover story if he ever wanted to explore the interactions that took place here at a later time.
The redhead continued to explore the multifaceted building as quickly and thoroughly as he could. Unfortunately the most effective way to do all of this was an option he could not yet take. The best way, based on how many cameras there were, would have been to make use of the security rooms of the building. Which he knew they had based on the fact that there were so many security features; this place didn't seem like the type of people who would call the local police if something went wrong.
He already knew that prostitution was a part of this company's reach, it had never directly been said in the interview but it had been implied many times which was why he was glad he had made his stipulations for a nonsexually active person clear ahead of time. You had confirmed it with your declarations as well. Which meant that the security of this place would probably be working off the record as far as the Japanese law was concerned as well. This company had to be discrete with its activities and no doubt wouldn't be able to trust a government employee or public servant to handle any security discrepancies that happened. Which was why getting into the security offices would have been helpful it it wasn't for the fact that using them would be problematic.
Kurama was unsure what kind of people he would encounter working security. From what he could tell this place employed humans; he couldn't sense an ounce of demon energy. However, he knew better than most that there were ways to mask the presence of Demon Energy. There were also other things than demons would could create a problem, human psychics had been known to be formidable. Then there were those who were spiritually aware like Kuwabara who could potentially have manifested their spirit energy. And while Kurama felt assured that he could overcome the direct obstacles even if the security team was more than the standard human beings, he did not want to be identified. Even one or two little details about him could lead back to identification and that was not something he planned to have happen. Not before he found out why this place had caught Spirit World's attention.
The sound of people moving influenced Kurama's choice to enter the next room. When he did, he stopped in an odd sort of wonderment. Unlike most rooms that required the keycard to slip into, this one had no learning function. Most the the area had been stripped to the bare necessities. Like all window in this building it was a one way mirror - he could see out into the rainy day but no one would be able to see him. This was by far the largest room he'd been in yet. It expanded along the expanse of one side of the building. That wasn't what stunned him. What got his attention was the fact that this place was filled with nothing but clothes.
As he moved through the crowded racks, he noticed that each contained a variety of different styles and shapes. It was about as diverse on each line as he could possible imagine. He also started to notice that on the end of each rack had pictures yet they were devoid of names. As he categorized the minds in his face, sorting through them. Kurama stopped when one of those faces touched home. Your image hung from one of the racks - he knew it would be in there somewhere but it still ignited his curiosity. Call it the fox in him but he started to browse through the long rack. There were so many clothes that it was hard to believe that anyone needed so many. His fingers stopped and picked something out - holding it up. He marveled at its structure even as he wondered why you would need such a thing. For someone who wasn't supposed to be engaging in sexual actions you had an awful lot of clothing which would peak people's interest. And that was not even counting the undergarments.
He put the piece of clothing back to where he got it and moved behind one of the large coats. He could hear people coming down the hall. Not just anyone - you. Your scent was clean like you had just gotten out of a shower. Kurama could even smell the water as it dripped down your skin. The water for this shower had been made with herbs and infused with minerals so it definitely wasn't from the one in your apartment. Interesting.
He held his breath as the door opened up. You weren't the one to walk through. Instead it was a woman with stilettos on and very little perfume. He could feel her coming down the aisle but she wasn't the only one. Ichida Yashida followed behind her with a rather irritated air about him. Kurama moved the sleeve aside to see the look on his face. It was one of subtle distaste - almost anger. The man was frustrated and that only seemed to get worse when the person, he was going to assume was the stylist, held up a few different outfits.
"Bring them all," Yashida said in irritation.
"Sir, if you didn't have any input then why did you feel you needed to follow me?"
"I wanted to make sure you didn't pick out anything untasteful. The last time…"
"It was a request from the client, sir."
Kurama allowed the sleeve to fall back as the two of them walked back out of the room. Once out of the room the two split company. The person he correctly assumed was a stylist followed off in your direction. Kurama was more surprised that you were awake than you were here. You were supposed to be awake for a handful more hours...he'd made sure of that.
It looked like he'd been focusing on the wrong angle this whole time. While he had been searching through the nooks and crannies of this building, he really should have been searching you instead.
