Hiei's Harem - Pt. 16 - Attaining

Scene 11 ------------- An Hour Later


* As Staci stirs awake Hiei lowers his bandana and sits down in the chair beside his large bed. For a couple moments, she just lays still, staring at the strange dark ceiling until she recalls where she is and what’s happened. Then she sits up and glances toward Hiei.


Staci- H-Hiei,.. I..

Hiei- What do you want from me, Staci?


* Staci takes a deep breath as she tries to figure out where to start. Of course, Hiei hears all of her thoughts through their bond but he decides to wait for her to sort them out.


Staci- I guess I.. want.. a lot of things.. Too many..

Hiei- Just take your time and tell me.


* She looks at him a bit surprised a moment, then scowls at his complacent tone.


Staci- First of all.. Answers.. Straight, no-s--- answers.

Hiei- Have I ever lied to you?


* Staci tilts her head thoughtfully. Hiei rolls his eyes.


Hiei- Answers to what?

Staci- Why you’re.. ashamed of me now.. But not when we created this..

Hiei- Staci,.. you’re..


* Now Staci rolls her eyes with frustration.


Staci- Yeah, I know..! I’m a Human..! Nothing but food and.. entertainment here.

Hiei- I’ve already made it clear that I would protect you in spite of what you are.

Staci- Just because it’s your.. duty as my mate.

Hiei- Hn. Why else?


* She closes her eyes and balls one of her hands into a fist. Hiei feels her reject her sudden desire to knock him out. But then he feels her sadness growing again.


Staci- Love.. would be.. too much to ask for from a..


* Hiei quiets her with a growl of his own of frustration as he rubs the back of his neck


Hiei- Have you ever demanded this of any of your other alphas?


* Staci hesitates, then lowers her eyes.


Staci- No..

Hiei- Then why demand it of me?


* She is quiet for so long that Hiei raises his eyes to look at her again. She meets his gaze, tears brimming her eyes.


Staci- You’re the only one that’s given me this.


* She relaxes her balled fist to lay on her extended belly. Out of instinct, Hiei lowers his eyes to check her unborn child.


Staci- Why is it that you can see so much with that eye of yours..? But you can’t see that I..


* Before she can finish Hiei stands and pushes his warding bandana up away from his glowing eye. It impresses him again when she looks directly into the jagan and doesn’t flinch. She willingly allows him to scan her as much as he desires to. The Koorime then pulls the cloth back down and turns away.


Staci- Hiei, please.. don’t..

Hiei(Quietly)- When did I ever give you any d--- good reason to.. fall in love with me? I’m a demon, Staci.. I’ve killed..

Staci- To survive.

Hiei- Sometimes.. But not all..

Staci- Do you eat Humans?

Hiei- No..


* Hiei had been so distracted by Staci that he hadn’t felt the Toushin approaching until Yusuke enters in time to hear their last exchange.


Yusuke- That’s because we disgust him too much, Sis.


* The jaganshi turns to gtare at the ex-detective for several moments. Then he just shakes his head and turns to move away. He’s known Yusuke long enough to know how brash he can be and how senseless it is to reprimand him for his intrusion. When Yusuke sees that his jibe was taken the wrong way by Staci he looks at his short friend again.


Yusuke- Bad time?

Hiei- As usual!


* Yusuke moves to touch Staci’s shoulder. Hiei turns and barely manages to suppress his warning growl.


Yusuke- Hey, now. I was just digging at the Little guy.. Don’t cry, Momma.. Come on.

Hiei- I will thank you.. to unhand my mate, Urameshi.


* Yusuke catches himself and pulls his hand away from her. He turns to look at Hiei again.


Yusuke- Woah. Chill out, Shorty.

Hiei- Why are you even here?!

Yusuke- You asked me to stay earlier, remember? Then she runs into me in the hall asking me to take her back home..

Hiei- She’s not going anywhere until I can figure her out!


* Staci wipes her eyes, almost laughing at her Alpha’s frustrated words in spite of the tense atmosphere. She watches Yusuke go over to facedown Hiei with his hands on his hips.


Yusuke- She’s pregnant and she’s a teenager, Hiei.. You’ll never figure her out.. Not to mention that she’s a Human..


* Hiei widens his eyes up at the taller hybrid mockingly.


Hiei- No. Really?


Yusuke rolls his eyes.


Yusuke- D--- it, there you go with your crass-a—attitude again..

Hiei- Like you have room to talk, Detective!


* Hiei raises a hand to rub his temple as he turns to pace away. When he regains his composure he turns to look back at Yusuke again. Staci just continues to watch their exchange, curiousity overwhelming her sorrow for the moment.


Hiei- For your information, I knew she was a Human before I even completed the claim on her!

Yusuke- But you still..?

Hiei- I had no choice, d--- it! I killed the b------ that was her current alpha.


* Yusuke crosses his arms.


Yusuke- Did you forget the part about her being Human?


* Hiei growls.


Hiei- What.. the h---..?!

Yusuke- She wouldn’t have died like your other demon mates, Hiei.. By the way, nice pack you’ve gathered there from what I seen.


* Hiei just blinks up at Yusuke. The Toushin relaxes his arms and sighs.


Yusuke- You forgot that, didn’t you?

Hiei- She.. still.. belonged to..

Yusuke- Yeah. Keep treating her like a d--- possession, like you do the others, and you’re not just going to lose her.


* Hiei looks back toward Staci.


Yusuke- Unlike her, the baby won’t survive without you long enough to even be born if you don’t get over yourself.


* He tilts his head back up at Yusuke.


Yusuke- The Monks have taught me something in the past couple years.

Hiei- Then you know why I placed her in that Shrine.

Yusuke- Does she?


* Yusuke motions toward Staci. The blonde decides to finally speak up.


Staci- Explain it to me please, Mr. Urameshi.


* Yusuke half glances toward her, but waits to see if Hiei will comply. The Koorime just turns away.


Yusuke- Hiei?

Hiei- She asked you.

Yusuke- She belongs to you.

Hiei- Don’t make me kill you in front of her!


* Hiei regrets his words immediately when he feels the orb pulse inside him, reminding him of its presence. Yusuke sighs, feeling the reaction as well. Staci swallows with a spike of fear, easily feeling the change herself.


Yusuke- Hiei,..

Hiei- You butted in here to try to fix my life, as usual! No matter how much I tell you that I don’t need it fixed! Why the h--- do you think I.. raped that d--- memory of yours away when you got too close to my.. Territory?!


* Yusuke moves as far away from Hiei as he can to allow the Fire demon to regain his control. When Hiei finally relaxes Yusuke sighs, partly from relief.


Yusuke- You’ve lived this way so long.. Alone.. That you’re afraid to change it.


* Hiei turns to glare at Yusuke again.


Hiei- You.. have to leave.. I.. I might not be able to..

Yusuke- That’s because it’s still new to you.. You’ll learn to control it eventually..

Hiei- Now.. isn’t.. ‘eventually’, Toushin! Now leave me alone!


* Yusuke shakes his head.


Yusuke- That’s the whole reason Kurama and I came looking for you in the first place.. Because we were concerned about you. We didn’t want to leave you alone after what happened with Yukina.. D--- it, Hiei, you know the three of us have always had.. some kind of connection to each other.


* As Yusuke speaks, Hiei feels the orb quiet down inside again. It silences completely when the last sentence changes the atmosphere of the room once more. Staci relaxes, but rolls her eyes.


Staci- You two want that I should leave and give you some privacy or something?


* They both blink and look toward her blankly. Then Hiei raises a hand to rub his temple again.


Hiei- Yusuke,.. I have too much on my plate right now to deal with that s---.


* He looks back at Yusuke again.


Hiei- When I accept.. If.. I accept..

Yusuke- Don’t you even go there, Hiei.


* Yusuke sighs and moves toward the door.


Yusuke- But I hear ya.. I’m already half exhausted by all this drama. See ya at the ceremony tomorrow.


* As quickly as he came, Yusuke is gone. The Koorime stares at the closed door a moment, then shakes his head and looks back at Staci. He sighs and moves to sit on the bed, leaning against the footboard facing her.


Hiei- Staci,.. once again I’ve wronged you.

Staci- Wronged me? What the h---? D--- it, Hiei, you confuse me so much! Demons can’t love, but they can have honor?!

Hiei- Perhaps the Detective is right.. Perhaps I have been fooling myself all these years..


* Staci drops her head into her hands with a groan.


Hiei- Staci,.. do you truly want to be free of me?


* She looks back up at him pleadingly.


Staci- No.. Why can’t I get that through to you?

Hiei- Then you’re just going to have to deal with me as I am.


* For several moments the two just stare at each other. Then, slowly, Staci’s expression changes and she falls back into the training that she was raised with most of her life. She leans forward in an awkward bow because of her rotund ‘condition’.


Staci- Very well, Master.. May I go back to sleep now, sir?


* Hiei looks away to hide his sudden annoyance at the display.


Hiei- Hn.


* He stands away from the bed, listens to her shuffle herself under the blankets until she’s as comfortable as she can get, then looks at her again. All he can see is the top of her gleaming blonde head. He feels a brief spike of desire to lay his hand on her head. But instead, he turns and leaves. Uncomfortable about how to deal with his own confusion concerning her.
