Once loved
It was the last day of his mortality as a spirit, and Miki had alerted both Yusuke and Kurama. He tried so
hard to tell Hiei but the Koorime wouldn�t let down his defensive barrier long enough. �I�I only have six hours left.� Miki stammered
and leaned over Hiei. �Please��
Kurama was too far away now to find Miki and Hiei in time.
Yusuke on the other hand remembered that the grounds of Genkai�s temple were spotted with caves and tunnels.
When he approached the foothills he could sense the weak flare of Hiei�s energy, as well as the pulse of a one vampire
spirit. �I�m close�now I�ve got to find a cave.� He thought and continued walking till he came upon
a waterfall. Pausing briefly Yusuke peered at the shadow behind the falling water before dashing
over and leaping into the cave. �Who�d have thunk.� He said to himself and shook the water out of his hair.
Hiei had fallen asleep from fatigue; he couldn�t hear a single thing that Miki said as his energy was down
to a flicker.
Yusuke entered the final chamber of the cave and saw the bodies of both Hiei and Miki laying on the mossy
floor. �Miki�are you�?�
�I�m here�but I�m really weak.� Miki said from his place sitting by his body.
Yusuke walked over and sat by Miki�s limp form lifting it gently into his arms. �What do I do?�

Two weeks after Yusuke found Miki and Hiei everything seemed back to normal. Hiei sat glaring at Yusuke and
growling deeply a protective instinct had risen up within him.
Yusuke blinked knowing he slightly pissed off the Koorime by holding Miki and kissing him. �Eh�� Yusuke
scratched his head trying to think of something to say.
Hiei growled and the look on his face made it seem he was about to slice Yusuke in half.
Yusuke swallowed hard. He knew that Hiei was Miki�s guardian�but this was a bit weird.
Miki dashed out of his room and ran down the hall into the living room. �Yukina says I don�t need to do any
more tests!� he cheered and tackled Yusuke.
�Uh�� Yusuke blushed a little and looked in Hiei�s direction. The sight of the perturbed Koorime�s face was
enough to make Yusuke (an S class fighter) shiver.

Just when Yusuke thought Hiei would silently take his head off Hiei stood and spoke. �Hurt him and
you�re dead.� After that Hiei vanished possibly to one of his secret haunts, or off to demon world to silently vent to Mukuro.
Miki looked up at Yusuke and smiled �I think Hiei�s mad.�
Yusuke met the boy�s eyes and let out a stressed sigh. �No�that�s him accepting things.�
Miki blinked �Accepting�? You mean�� the thought that he had finally gotten what he longed for entered
his mind.
Yusuke hugged Miki close. �It�s not like Keiko will ever take me back.� He kissed the small vamp gingerly
on the forehead.
Wiggling a little Miki let out a happy purr �Mmm�Yusuke�?� He licked his teeth and felt his fangs; a hunger had
struck him not only from his week of being dead but a whole other week of physical exams from Yukina.
Yusuke could tell what Miki wanted by the way his eyes flickered. He unbuttoned his shirt and gave the
