Invocation
Chapter Twelve
The meeting with mister Vue went as expected. He had poked about the apartment a bit as he inquired about your health. Even though you answered him cordially you knew what he was doing. He was looking for some sign that you had guests at the apartment - particularly male guests. He didn't know that the whole place was staged. His paranoid habits and worries were already hard to deal with. You had to sell the act completely or there was going to be a fatherless child out there who would only have a mother that would probably struggle to support him if she even decided to keep him.
What you were currently doing, letting him think you were the one who had gone through the invitrofertalization process, was to help ensure that many people had a happy life. Mister Vue and his wife would get to have a child he and his wife wanted. The kid in turn would get to live a rather cushy life with a family that wanted them. Short of a paternity test none of them would be the wiser. On top of that, the birth mother of the child was due to be financially compensated enough so that she could get back on her feet. It wasn't nearly as much as the company was making off of mister Vue as he was lead to believe that they had facilitated the birth of a biological child through you but it definitely would help. Especially considering the fact that it was five thousand dollars that she wouldn't have had prior and that she had already been placed into an apartment and job which allowed the eighteen year old to establish some renting and work experience history she wouldn't have been able to do on her own.
"I will see you in three weeks," he said in a strictly business tone.
"I will really be on the way to bursting by then ," you replied back in his native language. "Take care."

Absentmindedly your hand splashed out across your abdomen as you walked into your building compound. Even though it hadn't been your first time faking a pregnancy, it still felt strange. There was more of you one minute and then less of you the next. Sure you were in control of it and you felt it happen but it was still a slightly off putting sensation. It was surprising that such transitions still affected you after all this time.
What else was surprising was the fact that Shuuichi was waiting for you by your door. If you didn't know any better you'd say he was asleep as he leaned against your doorframe with his head bowed. You smiled at him and waved slightly as he rose his gaze. You had to stop yourself from staring at him for too long. You almost felt a shift in him somehow in a way that you couldn't place. It was as though he was trying to project warmth and at the same time you couldn't help but feel a little trapped in his vision. As though he was a spider weaving a green web.
"Hello," you greeted him with a friendly tone.
He pushed himself away from the doorway with a fluid motion. "I thought we could go for a walk? If you're free that is."
You knew that he wasn't exactly the type of client that was scheduled as Mister Vue was. Yet other than the first time you had met him there had been some sort of indication that you would be seeing him. Even if it was something as simple as a phone call. After all that had been the agreement. One that he didn't seem to have remembered right now. Thankfully you didn't have anything you had to do at that moment and he hadn't found you in any sort of incriminating state.
"Sure," you agreed.
His smile didn't quite reach his eyes but it looked real enough. He wasn't extravagantly happy but he was pleased with your answer.
"Just let me set my stuff down and grab a jacket."
Even though it was still light outside you weren't sure how long you'd be gone for. Shuuichi's walk could turn into quite the adventure. Or just as likely he would have you back home before nightfall. Either way you wanted to be prepared. You quickly entered your apartment, letting Shuuichi in as well, to do exactly what you said you were going to do.
"New perfume?" His question startled you a little bit.
You wouldn't have thought that the scented bath you'd had back at the agency would have been so strong that he would have been able to smell it from across the room. At least not after all this time. You made a mental note to be careful with scents around him since it would be inconsistent to have too many too often. If there was one thing you knew about Shuuichi it was the fact that he liked consistency.
"It's from scented bath water," you supplied for him though you had to use English as you weren't sure what to call it in Japanese.
He nodded as he gently traced one of the only decorations you'd put into the apartment. It was a gold leaf picture frame you had put on the table. Currently it only had a stock image as you hadn't gotten around to putting anything personal in it. When you noticed where his attention was while you pulled out a thin jacket, you decided to tell him the truth.
"I haven't found a good picture for it."
"What about your family?"
He was prying a little bit. You could tell. The only thing was that most people would be curious, asking questions like that one was a great way to bond with someone. That was something he obviously wanted - something he was missing in his life. Though the more time you spent with him the more you wondered about that. He didn't seem to have any major vices or defects. He was even good at socializing. Not to mention his hygiene was possibly even better than yours. It was hard to believe that there was a lack of people who wouldn't mind being a companion for him. It was more believable to you that he lacked the time to get to know someone. Yet he put that idea on shaky ground with how much time he'd been able to dedicate to you so far.
"I don't speak to them," you answered his inquiry honestly. "Our relationship was difficult."
"I see."
You were pleased by the fact that he didn't seem to feel the urge to apologize. That sort of behavior always seemed odd to you. What good did an apology from a person not at fault do you? All it did was highlight any awkwardness between individuals.
"Are you ready to go?"
With one last look around the room you nodded. Shuuichi guided you out and locked up like a gentleman. Even though you knew it was silly you couldn't help but be a little excited to see what he wanted to show you or talk to you about during the walk.
