Meikai War
Chapter14
Rouin and Suoh ran swiftly through tall trees, snarls and growls of Meikai demons hounded them from all sides. The two blacks skidded to a halt and backed up together.
"Looks like we’re surrounded," said Suoh in amusement.
"Indeed," said Rouin in a smug voice as the demon’s slowly began closing in.
"What should we do, Rouin?" asked Suoh in a far too innocent manner.
"What we do best!" roared Rouin ki blazing around him. Several demons cowered back, they knew better then to charge at a black ryu, let along these two.
Suoh smiled back at his partner then turned to face the group in front of him. "Saa," said Suoh stepping towards them. "Which one of you wants to go first?"
As an answer all the demons charged at once.
"No sportsmanship, you’re no fun," said Suoh leaping above the demon’s heads and landing lightly in a high tree branch, a wide smirk on his face. "But, that’s fine with me!" he shouted leaping down right in the middle of them. "I like a good brawl!" The smaller ryu spun in their mists, wings and claws ripping and tearing at the demons in a tornado of death.
The demons that had surround Rouin all held a respect full distance away from the ryu, just eyeing the blazing black surrounded in a miasma of his own ki. The tall black took a step forward and the demons in front of him trembled, some dropped their weapons and ran, others did more embracing things like wet themselves. The black raised up one hand slowly and slashed it down, killing several with just the passing of his crackling ki.
"You’re no match for me," said Rouin so deadly calm it would have chilled anyone. He looked up at them with hard brown eyes. "I will kill all of you Meikai scum," he said descending on them in a bloody melee of flying fists. "Every lost one of you!" he screamed in rage.
Suoh suddenly found that the Meikai demons were much more interested in getting past him than fighting. Not that he could blame them most did try to run from Rouin when he showed his true colors in battle. Rouin hated the Meikai with a passion, one that bordered on insanity. The ryu was always painted red after a rubble with the Meikai, even though he could have just as easy killed them all without spilling a drop on himself. Rouin seemed to like wallowing in his kills. He always looked them right in the eyes before ripping out their throats and watched them slowly bleed to death choking and wheezing. Suoh was sure they all died with those hurt-filled brown eyes burned into their very souls forever.
Suoh did more watching then anything else as his friend tour them to pieces. Rouin seemed the most alive when he killed; he was almost his old self before actual combat, anticipating the kill with more life then he ever displayed when looking forward to anything else.
It didn’t take long for the battle to be over, only Suoh’s hand gently touching his shoulder stopped Rouin from going after the ones that had escaped earlier. As always the taller black was covered in blood, showing more red then patches of black. When he finally calmed down, the bloodlust drained from him along with most of the emotion in his face. He was so dead standing about the mangled remains of those he killed, like he wished he were lying beside them in eternal rest.
Suoh couldn’t stand looking at that scene long it made his heart ache.
"Come Rouin, come on," he said grabbing the ryu by the arm and leading him away. Rouin walked beside Suoh like a blind man, if Suoh lead him to the edge of a cliff he would have willingly walked off it. But he was getting better. Yes, whenever Suoh showed up after a long absents Rouin almost looked happy to see him. The Ryu would some times smiled at him and speak warmly with him, but only him. None of the others could get him to even look at them as they spoke. It was like the world was dead and Rouin walked in some darker one that Suoh could sometimes step into.
He dragged the taller black to a river and motioned for him to get in. When Rouin didn’t respond Suoh growled low in his throat and bodily tossed the taller ryu in.
Rouin came up gasping as if he’d been sleep walking and had falling into the icy water. "Suoh!" he roared.
Suoh smiled and waded in after the grumbling black, clothes and all.
"Rouin why do you do this to yourself?" said Suoh taking hold of one wing to scrub at the blood there. "You’re going to dye yourself red."
"Maybe I like the color red," said Rouin softly. "Red like blood, red like your eyes, red like Chi…"
Suoh silently continued to wash the blood off Rouin, not knowing what to say in reply to such a thing.
Rouin sighed and sank down into the water closing his eyes. "Do you ever wish you could make time go backwards?" asked Rouin.
"No," said Suoh. The past is no place for the future."
"The future," said Rouin opening his eyes. "When I look at the future I see death and destruction, when I look at the past I see a simpler time when life was worth living."
"Life is worth living now, Rouin. If you looked around you’d know that," said Suoh.
Rouin turned and looked at Suoh with hard brown eyes, without warning he grabbed the smaller ryu by the wrist and yanked him against him, fisting one hand in Suoh’s wild hair.
"Rouin-"
"When I look around all I see is blood. Everywhere: on the ground, in the sky, on you, on me. I know it’s still there, even when I close my eyes, even when I can’t see it, because I can smell it. Ever since that day the only scent I’ve smelt has been that of blood. I’ll live with that smell and I’ll die with it, the scent of blood, forever tainting everything." He leaned forward and rested his head on Suoh’s shoulder sighing softly against the smaller black. "I can smell it on you too Suoh; blood. The sweet smell of blood," he opened his mouth and bit down on the ryu’s shoulder, wrenching a shocked cry from Suoh. The taller black didn’t seem to hear the sound as he let go to wrap both arms around Suoh’s middle and crushed the ryu to him, biting down harder and suck on the wound as crimson filled his mouth.
"Rouin," crooked Suoh as the taller black rubbed himself bodily against his smaller form while continued to drink that dark red wine. He blinked his red eyes in confusion as he watched tears make their way down Rouin’s face even though the taller black was increasing the pressure of his teeth with every passing second.
"Rouin," called Suoh again only much softer as he managed to pull his arms loose from the taller ryu’s embrace and softly stroked the black’s wild hair, ignoring the pain inflicted by the other. Rouin growled against Suoh’s shoulder and moved his hips against Suoh in a very sexual manner, and for a brief second fear flashed in Suoh’s mind.
Rouin loosened his jaw and pulled back to lick the injury, his possessive grip loosened and he just lightly held Suoh to him as he lapped at the fresh blood oozing from the wound he’d made.
"Suoh? Why do you stay with me? Why do you continue to go to Dragon Springs when you have a mate?" he asked against the ryu’s shoulder. "I could really hurt you some day."
Suoh could see it in his eyes, Rouin did think that his present would lead to the death and destruct of all that came near him. Suoh’s brief fears melt like snow under a fire. "You won’t hurt me Rouin," said Suoh.
"You can’t be sure," said Rouin looking up at him with hard eyes. "You can’t be sure that you won’t be hurt or worst because of me!"
"You won’t hurt me, Rouin," said Suoh softly, there was no doubt in his voice. "I know you too well."
"I-"
Suoh cut short Rouin’s words. "Never," he stated leaning down to kiss him lightly on the lips.
Rouin sobbed against Suoh’s lips and once again embraced the smaller ryu tightly, kissing back with a kind of wild desire. Time seemed to stand perfectly still for an instant.
There was a defining roar which broke the two’s heated embrace. Another roar joined the first and another. A fight was taking place in the distance, a fight between ryus.
"Let’s go," said Rouin jumping up with Suoh in his arms. He set the ryu down on his feet and spread his large black wings.
Slightly confused Suoh did like wise and followed Rouin as he flew towards the sounds of combat. He watched the black’s back, his mind and heart in turmoil. For a brief moment he had wanted to be with Rouin, be with him in a why that he’d only been with Inari. Partake in the other’s body in a fashion that was far more sacred then a simple roll to display affection in a physical manner. No he did not love Rouin in the same why he did Inari it was completely different and all so complex; so confusing. In his heart he believed that if he was with Rouin just once, his completely, then the taller Ryu would stop his path to self-destruction. But that made no sense, how could one moment of peace repair so many years of despair?
Suoh was unable to ponder that thought long as Rouin pulled up sharp in the air. "Oh sweet golden ryu," whispered the taller black.
Suoh looked down and breathed in sharply. On the ground stood a tall black dragon, to the black’s right and left lay a dead purple and orange ryu, on the black’s back sat a rider: Raiko.
"Kuroi?!" said Rouin recognizing the black.
The sound caught the attention of Raiko who turned all three of his eyes up to look at the two blacks.
"Ah, if it isn’t Rouin Ryu and Suoh Ryu. I’ve been looking forward to seeing you two. My great Lord would very much like to speak with you Rouin. Yes, very much," he said reaching down to pet the neck of the black ryu mount.
"Get out of here! Run, please!" shouted Kuroi.
"Raiko! How dare you do this to a black! I won’t forgive you!" shouted Rouin in pure rage. He swooped down at the laughing jaganshi.
"Kuroi, kill the other black while I play with Rouin," said the Meikai demon jumping off the ryu’s back.
The ryu in dragon form looked at its master with wide horror-stricken eyes.
"Do it. One of you must die this day," said the jaganshi before turning his attention to the enraged Rouin.
Suoh landed in front of Kuroi as the black transformed into his more humanoid shape. Suoh had never seen such shame and horror on any one’s face. "Kuroi?" said Suoh stepping towards the black.
"Suoh… I have to kill you," he whispered with head bowed, he snapping it up and racing at the shocked black ryu.
"Ah!" shouted Suoh as Kuroi leapt at him and grasped Suoh’s throat easily lifting the smaller black off the ground. "Ku...roi," choked Suoh clawing at his hands.
"Forgive me," whispered Kuroi tightening his grip with a sob.
"Raiko!" screamed Rouin swing his fists at the demon god, but unable to connect with the speedy demon.
The demon laughed. "What spirit you have black, you’ll serve my lord well."
"Never! I’ll never bow to you or your king. I’ll kill you all!" roared Rouin. "Kill you for what you’ve done, done to us all, done to me! Give me back my life!" screamed the ryu racing at the jaganshi and slamming his fist across Raiko’s face sending him flying back to slam into a tree.
Raiko spat blood and glared at the black. "Oh yes, you must be the one Lord Yakumo saw in his dreams. I can see the hellish fire that burns in your eyes, just like he said. Are you the ryu that burns with fiery rage and endless power?"
"I don’t care about a stupid dream! I will kill you!" roared Rouin bursting into crackling black ki and racing at the jaganshi again.
Raiko ducked and dodged Rouin’s strikes then jumped back. "… is it possible you are not the one," he asked. "Is this the height of your power? The black serpent of fire’s powers are suppose to be surpassed only by his intense rage."
"Shut up and fight!" shouted Rouin.
"If you insist ryu," said Raiko. "But I must make sure." As he said that the third eye on his forehead glowed.
Suoh’s foot kicked up and connected with Kuroi’s elbow forcing the black to drop him. Suoh landed hard on his back with a gasp for air. "Kuroi?" he coughed looking up at the black.
"Oh Suoh," trembled Kuroi. "I have no right to mock you as I did, not when I ripped my own mate to pieces for that Meikai monster’s enjoyment." Tears streamed down the black’s face. "Kill me."
Suoh jumped on the ground and looked up at the black with wide horrified eyes.
"Kill me, please!" screamed Kuroi aiming a punch down at Suoh who nimbly leapt out of the way. "Kill me before I kill more ryus, before I kill more blacks, please!"
"No… I can’t," said Suoh shaking his head. "You’re a clan member, I can’t hurt you Kuroi."
"Then I’ll be forced to take your life Suoh," said Kuroi charging the smaller ryu swinging punches and kicks. Suoh barely managed to dodge and duck under them. "I’ll kill you then I’ll be forced to kill another and another, please Suoh! Please don’t let the blacks be destroyed his way! Don’t let us kill each other off. I’d rather we breed outside the clan, breed with non-ryus till not a drop of dragon’s blood was in our descendents then see one more black die by my hands, please!" shouted the ryu punching Suoh square in the chest and knocking him down. He ran at Suoh and kicked the smaller ryu in the side sending him rolling along the ground. Suoh coughed and got to his knees looking at the tortured eyes of the other black. Kuroi’s fist blazed with a fiery ki as he aimed it at Suoh and raced at the smaller ryu with a cry.
With a scream of angst Suoh’s fist blazed with black fire and slammed up into the taller black’s chest, right at the heart.
Kuroi stopped in his tracks there was a long pause between the two as they both held perfectly still. Then Kuroi turned his head and looked down at Suoh with a smile. The taller ryu mouthed the words ‘thank you’ unable to say them since his ribs had been shattered piercing his lungs and this heart.
"Kuroi!" screamed Suoh catching the black as he fell forward into his arms.
Rouin gasped as he felt a presents brush his mind like an icy hand, then it was in. "No…" mouthed Rouin.
Imagines flashed before Rouin’s eyes, imagines of his joys, his pains, his fears, his desires.
Joy. He watched as Chi bashed him on the head with a ‘Rouin no baka!’ then as she repeated the phrase again his time softer with warm eyes the same as after they’d made love.
Pain. He jumped in shock as the image was replaced with one of Chi lying dead in his arms, her pretty face smeared with blood. Fresh tears threatened to spill seeing the imagine that had haunted him for so many years.
Fear. Rouin cried out as the body he held in his arms was replaced with that of Suoh’s. He didn’t care how it had happened only embraced the small ryu tightly unable to believe the only creature he truly cared about any more was dead as well; had left him alone.
Desire. His sobs stopped as he felt a gentle touch on his cheek and looked down to see Suoh smiling at him, all the marks and blood was gone. His heart raced, too over-joyed to wonder how it’d happened, only that Suoh had returned to him. He gasped as the smaller ryu leaned up and kissed him in an inviting way.
Rouin blinked his eyes in confusion as the scene faded and the Suoh in his arms vanished like an illusion. A thick fog filled the area and every thing was dark and uncertain. He looked around in confusion till he heard a soft laugh of delight and a little figure came running out of the fog that had drifted around him to hug his leg. He jumped and looked down at it, unable to see the figure’s face clearly in the thick fog, but he could smell it. It smelt of fresh cut flowers and spring water, of sun kissed meadows and sweet hay, it smelt like Chi, the scent of blood did not taint it as it did everything else. He reached down a shaky hand to the tiny figure, but never touched it as a scream filled the air. The dream world he stood in burst into black fire and briefly a long dragon of black flames circled him before he was back into the real world.
"Suoh?" asked Rouin looking around.
"Huh, so you’re not the one," said Raiko closing his eyes.
"Suoh? Suoh?!" shouted Rouin turning around to see the smaller black ryu hugging tightly the fallen body of Kuroi, tears streaming down his pale cheeks as he begged the black to live.
"I see you’ve killed my ride, two against one is not in my favor," said the Meikai demon. "Therefore, I’ll say my good byes for now. I’ll be seeing you again soon, Rouin Ryu," he said with a laugh before disappearing with a flap of his cap.
"Wait!" shouted Rouin, but hesitated debating whether he should got to Suoh or chase after his prey. With a curse under his breath he went to his friend. "Suoh ." One look was enough to see that Kuroi would never rise again. "Suoh, he’s gone let go," said Rouin gently pulling the dead black away from his smaller partner.
"I… killed him," whispered Suoh. "I killed him! I killed a black! I killed one of my own!" howled the ryu.
"Suoh," said Rouin pulling the ryu into a hug and letting him sob loudly against his chest. "It wasn’t your fault, Suoh. It wasn’t your fault."
The smaller ryu didn’t answer, just cried wildly as Rouin held him, petting his black hair and murmuring comforting noises to the crying ryu.

It was late when Inari heard Suoh return. He was already in bed when the ryu opened the balcony’s glass doors and walked silently in to crawl onto the large bed and hug Inari from behind.
"Suoh?" asked Inari sensing something out of place with the ryu.
"Nothing happened," whispered Suoh into his back. That was the same reply Suoh always gave him when he returned reeking of Rouin’s scent.
"What’s wrong?" asked Inari turning around in Suoh’s embrace to hug the ryu around his slender waist. "Is Rouin okay?"
"Yes," said Suoh in a low voice resting his face against Inari’s chest. "Inari?"
"Yes?" said the silver fox.
"If it came down to a choice between me or your kin, the gods, which would you choose?"
"Suoh? I’m not sure what you mean," he said pulling the ryu tighter against him.
"If you had to choose which was more important: your position as a god or you feelings towards me which would you choose?"
"Suoh…" whispered Inari. Indeed which would he choose? His position couldn’t be taken likely he was responsible for the youkos and foxes, for the harvesting of grain and rice and other crops. He was a part of a bigger picture in the scheme of the worlds. But his feelings for Suoh were pure, a greater treasure than any of the gifts or powers that came with his god hood. It then came down to the question was it better to sacrifice many for the one or one for the many? "I-"
"Shhh," said Suoh placing a finger on Inari’s lips. "Don’t answer that." He moved up and pulled his finger away to kiss the silver fox on the mouth. "It’s not fair of me to ask." He moved down and began kissing Inari’s throat rolling on top of the silver fox as his fingers moved along Inari’s sides.
"Suoh…" gasped Inari as his hands journeyed up the ryu’s smooth legs. That petit ryu always was skilled at changing the subject.

"Mama ryu!" laughed Kogare free from his lessons. He ran and jumped into the waiting ryu’s arms. His tail waging happily as the black ryu sighed into his long golden hair.
"Play with me, please," said Kogare. The boy was getting older, he now appear be the age of a 7 year old ningen, although he was many thousands of years old.
"Gomen, Kogare," said Suoh petting that silky golden hair. "I have to go."
The boy pouted and pulled back to look at his mother ryu. "Are you going to see Rouin oji-san at Dragon Springs again?"
Suoh blinked his red eyes at the kit. "Why do say him, you know I go there to see Sunoo oba-san and Ryuujin ojii-san as well."
The boy shook his head. "No you go to see Rouin oji-san," said the boy crossing his arms. "You like Rouin oji-san more than you do me."
Suoh smiled at the boy and patted his head. "You know that’s not true. Rouin and I are very close Kogare, but you are my son."
"Then stay with me," said the boy pulling on Suoh’s arm.
"Are you lonely, Kogare?" asked Suoh softly.
The little boy nodded his head and gave Suoh puppy dog eyes.
"So is Rouin."
"Eh?" said Kogare looking up into Suoh’s red eyes.
"Rouin is lonely too, but he’s lonely all the time. He doesn’t have an Inari papa to love him or a precious pup like you for a son. Do you want me to leave him alone too Kogare? So he’ll always be alone?"
The little boy’s ears flattened on his head. "No. Why doesn’t Rouin oji-san find someone to love him and to have children with? Then he won’t be lonely."
Suoh looked at the boy with sad eyes.
"Ryu mama? Are you okay?" asked Kogare.
"Kogare, would you hate me if I went to Rouin right now?"
The boy shook his head. "No, I’ll never hate mama ryu," said the boy hugging him.
"And your papa, do you think he’d hate me?" asked Suoh.
The boy cocked his head to the side in a curious manner. "Why would papa hate you for being with Rouin oji-san?"
Suoh smiled sadly and patted the boy’s head again before putting him down. "Being with Rouin oji-san would make him lonely in a way."
"But you won’t stay with Rouin oji-san," said the boy grabbing Suoh’s hand. "You’ll come back, right?"
Suoh smiled and knelt down hugging the boy. "Hai, I’ll come back."
"Then me and papa will wait for you," smiled Kogare giving Suoh a wet kiss on the cheek.
Suoh smiled and patted the boy’s head again. "Thank you," he said standing up and spreading his wings. A high jump and a few flaps and the ryu was high in the air.
"Bye bye!" shouted Kogare running after the flying black. "Come home soon!" he shouted waving.
Suoh smiled once more at the kit before turning his head to look forward. The ryu silently opened a portal and entered the Ningenkai.

Rouin walked the ground of Dragon Springs looking for a familiar black ryu, but not finding him.
"Suoh, where are you," he whispered under his breath. In away he felt abandoned, alone, forgotten. Rouin felt worst then he had in a long time, he remembered the vision Raiko had forced him to see his fear of losing Suoh as he had Chi. Looking at that pretty dead face and knowing he was the cause. But, Suoh wasn’t dead, the small ryu had simply chosen not to see him. For some reason that hurt worst then the thought that he wasn’t there because he was dead. Rouin felt terrible for thinking such a thing; if Suoh was happy what right did he have to intrude on that happiness?
"Rouin," called a deep voice he knew so well. The tall black looked up at the golden figure of Ryuujin. "You seem to hurt more then usual his day," said the golden dragon moving over to lift Rouin’s chin in his large hand.
"I’m just thinking," said Rouin not looking into those searching golden orbs.
"About Suoh?" asked Ryuujin.
Rouin looked back at him with shock. "Yes, I mean- I," said the black uncomfortable with the way the conversation was moving.
"You miss him, because he’s not here," said Ryuujin.
The black nodded his head. "I guess I just took his presents for granted, why should he put up with such a moody creature as myself. I must ruin his stay here."
Ryuujin’s grip on Rouin’s chin tightened and the black had no choice but to look the golden ryu in the eyes. Rouin felt small and powerless under that golden gaze.
"Do you really believe that? Suoh cares about you more then you know, Rouin."
"I-" started the Rouin lowering his eyes in shame. "Forgive me, I know he cares for me. I just- just," the ryu was unable to find the worlds to describe what he felt. He was relieved when Ryuujin didn’t press him to continue.
"Go," said the Golden Ryu.
"Ryuujin?"
"Go look for him if you miss him so much, there is no reason for you be here if he is not."
"But Suoh is- he’s not my- I-" said Rouin confused.
"Shhh, don’t think. Just go, if you’re happy around him, and he with you, is that not all that matters?"
Rouin smiled softly. "Happy… a forgotten word." He looked the ryu in the eyes without any of the discomfort he had before. "Thank you, Ryyujin. I think I will go look for him, perhaps he needs my help for once and not the other way around."
The Golden Ryu smiled back at the black. "Remember Rouin, the future is an unclear path, follow your feelings and be true to your own sense of honor."
"I will," said Rouin turning to leave.
Rouin didn’t even think about his path, he just followed it knowing it was the right one that Suoh had gone that way. He found himself in the Ningenkai it was raining heavy, plastering his clothes to him the minute he stepped through the portal.
He flew over rich forests and farmlands his dark shadow couldn’t be seen on the ground because of the thick rain that pelted him. No one noted his passing all tucked inside their harm homes enjoying the warmth of their loved ones.
Rouin almost smiled to himself as he landed on familiar mountain and looked at the small figure with its back to him; he was home, he was at Mt. Hiei. The smaller ryu was staring out over the rain soaked land as though too deep in thought to even notice the heavy rain pelting him.
"Suoh?" called Rouin moving behind the ryu and placing a hand on his shoulder. "What are you doing out here? Come inside where it’s warm," said Rouin pulling the black to his feet. He wordlessly lead Suoh through the maze that was the path to his den, glancing back at the soaked ryu who he held by the hand. Suoh still looked deep in thought, quit and with drawn as if he was unaware of the world around him. Rouin bit his lip in concern, had something happened to upset him? Was he still grieving over Kuroi’s death at his own hands?
The two entered a large caravan covered from one end to another in glittering gems, coins, precious metals, and other valuable treasures. The place fairly glowed yellowish with splashes of color from the light reflecting back off the piles of treasure.
Rouin walked over the dunes of gold and gems till he was far away from the ground entrance and any drafts created by it. He began pulling off his soaking wet clothes, throwing them in a careless pile to the side. He glanced over at Suoh who was looking at his feet and just dripping water from his slender frame. With a sigh he walked over to Suoh covered only in several pieces of jewelry to grab the wet robe.
"And you complain that I’m always making a mess of myself. Look at you, your soaked," said Rouin undoing the sash around Suoh’s waist and letting it fall to the ground with a wet ‘plop’. "At least I help you clean me up," he said with a good humor grin trying to get a response from the small ryu.
Suoh lifted his head and just looked at him with deep intense red eyes. Rouin looked back with confusion as his hands wandered to the wet robe and pulled it off Suoh’s shoulders to pool at their feet. Rouin breathed in sharply and took a step back, eyes going wide as he looked at Suoh.
The smaller black looked back through wet bangs hanging in front of those blood red eyes and for a long time Rouin couldn’t tear his eyes away from them to look at what he knew was under them. He gulped as his eyes moved down taking the pale white front and dark black scales, the perky breasts, slim waist, and softly curving hips of a petit ryu in a very female form. "Suoh? Why are you in his form?" asked Rouin quickly snapping his eyes back up to Suoh’s face.
"Rouin," said Suoh stepping out of the wet clothes at her feet and walking towards the taller black. Wordlessly she reached up her hands and wrapped them around his neck, pulling his head down to kissing him softly on the lips.
Rouin couldn’t help but sigh into the kiss, closing his eyes and resting his hands lightly on Suoh’s hips, he felt the ryu kiss him in a way that spoke of trust, willingness, and desire. Rouin couldn’t deny that he felt the same, had wanted and longed for this, but was it right? Was Suoh doing this out of pity for him? He pushed the ryu’s shoulders back.
"Suoh, you don’t have to do this."
"Rouin," called Suoh again leaning into the taller black. "I don’t want to be the last," she whispered up at him. "I don’t want to be the last of the ryus, last of the blacks. I don’t want to be the only one left," she whispered with sadness in her eyes.
Rouin looked down at those blood red eyes and realized Suoh wasn’t doing his out of pity for him, but for herself.
"Please," she whispered wrapping her arms around his waist and resting her head on his chest.
"Are you sure?" asked Rouin reaching up one hand to pet that shiny black hair made even more glossy with the rainwater.
"Yes," said Suoh into his chest.
Rouin closed his eyes. "I will, but I have a favor to ask."
"What?" asked Suoh looking up at him.
"I won’t say it now, I’ll tell you later," he said cupping Suoh’s face with both hands and leaning down to kiss the ryu with much affection. His larger tongue invading and tasting the fire wine of the other’s mouth. They parted slowly, with Rouin leaning in to nuzzle Suoh’ face. "I’ll tell you after," he said moving one hand down to hold the ryu around the middle and slowly lowered them to the coin and gem covered ground.
He leaned over his smaller partner and looking at those deep red eyes closed halfway, those lips still wet and slightly parted from the last kiss, lean body submissive and willing under him. He lifted a hand and ran it over Suoh’s lips slowly moving down the ryu’s chin to her neck, collarbone, and down to one breast to gently cup and feel the weight of it in his hand. He caressed softly and slowly, never taking his eyes off of Suoh’s half lidded ones, looking for any hesitation any fear in the ryu under him. He could see none, only desire and trust. He knew that Suoh wasn’t his, could never truly be only his, but for his one moment he could pretend the ryu was and that was all he needed, all he wanted, one perfect moment with his friend and comrade. One instant without any pain so that its hold on him might loosen long enough for him to escape. Seeing no denial or resistance in Suoh’s gaze, Rouin lowered his body to cover Suoh’s, lacing one hand with the smaller ryu's and leaning his head down to kiss the side of the ryu’s neck, listening to the ryu’s breath as it quickened.
He moved down Suoh’s neck with light kisses, tasting the salt of the other’s skin and the slight quiver of her body. He ran his tongue over the ryu’s collarbone feeling Suoh shiver and nipped lightly at the bone, gaining a low groan from Suoh who lifted her hand to lightly hold Rouin’s head.
Rouin looked up to see Suoh had closed her eyes and lowered his to watch at her chest rose and fell with her every breath. He slid farther down her body till his head was lined up with her front and leaned down to run his tongue across the soft flesh, lapping at the underside of one breast and up to circle around her aroused nipple before lightly biting down on the nub. Under him Suoh gasped and arched as he rolled the nub in his mouth, hands letting going of Suoh’s to move down and hold Suoh by the waist as he worked gaining pleased sounds from the smaller ryu.
Souh lightly wrapped her legs around Rouin’s thighs as he moved, fondling his hair, running her fingers through the wild stuff in a light caress. The ryu breathed in deep and swallowed hard as Rouin moved to give the same treatment to the other breast.
"Ah," groaned Suoh as Rouin stopped teasing with his mouth to grope both breast squeezing and rolling them together in a slow strong caress as he moved down to bite at her navel.
Souh lightly squeezed Rouin’s waist with her thighs as she tied to contain the soft groans and moans that wanted to escape her throat. She looked down her own body to watch Rouin, his hands on her, his tongue dipping into her navel in a wet kiss, stimulating what was to come. Suoh gasped and leaned her head back as Rouin released her front to grip her legs and spread them more for his exploration. He slowly moved one hand up and cupped her sex, gaining a low moan from the ryu. Gently he rubbed back and forth, feeling the wetness created from Suoh’s arousal. He smiled as the grip in his hair tightened and Suoh shifted closer to him. He watched the ryu open her mouth in a silent cry as he pushed two fingers into her, then shut it to bite down on her lip as he began to move back and forth in her.
He drank up the sight as Suoh began to move with him, sway in time to the slow motion of his hand and panting lightly at the sensations running through her. He panted with her and closed his eyes, just feeling and listening to the being that was Suoh. He groaned low in his throat thinking of that warmth around him, that tightness holding him.
He removed his hand and moved back up Suoh’s body to kiss the ryu on the mouth deeply, bring himself into position as he fitted himself between Suoh’s thighs and let some of his weight down on the ryu. Suoh moved her hands down to lie over the dip in his back, fingers touching the curve of his rear as his tail waged back and front in an excited manner.
Rouin’s hands griped Suoh’s thighs tightly bring them up more as he rubbed his sex against Suoh’s, feeling the ryu moan into the kissed. He didn’t let their mouths part, swallowed Suoh’s gasp as he thrust up into her in one smooth motion, filling her with his need. He gulped in air for them both, pulling back only to allow brief pants for breath and to continue the kiss at a different angle.
Suoh arched against him as he moved his hands up her body and slowly began to thrust up into her. Once again Rouin interlace their fingers, both pinning Suoh under him and holding her in an affectionate way as he continue to kiss her deeply and move his hips against hers. The friction was only heightened as Rouin began to move faster and with more force.
Rouin finally broke the kiss to nuzzle Suoh’s neck and shoulder, panting loudly with the smaller ryu- his hip were the only part of him doing much moving the rest lay tight to Suoh in a possessive and dominating embrace.
Suoh began to make short cries and groans as she came close and Rouin hips moved harsher as he too neared release. The two’s wings flapped gentle in affection and excitement as they gave and received.
Rouin’s clawed feet began to rake at the ground as he sought for a better position that would allow him deeper passage and thus more pleasure. Every muscle in Rouin’s body tightened as he thrust deep inside his partner and held still, holding Suoh tightly around him as he lifted his head and howled in pleasure finally satisfying himself in that wonderful body under him.
Suoh made a small noise in her throat and looked up at the ceiling as she felt Rouin reach his peek and bury himself the deepest in her, body taunt as he filled her with his seeds. Her eyes slid shut and she arced slightly, mouth opening as her body let loose with the sensation of Rouin’s fulfillment.
She did not open her eyes as she felt Rouin collapse on top of her, his full weight on her frame, his hot breath beating down on her neck as his pants filled her ears and echoed her own. She opened her eyes when Rouin lifted his head and lightly brushed some hair out of her face. She looked up into two familiar brown eyes that now sparkled with a light that she’d fear had forever been distinguished in him. She couldn’t help the tears that flowed down her cheeks as he smiled at her without any pain on his face and leaned down to lightly kiss her on the forehead before sliding down her body to rest his head on her stomach, closing his eyes. Suoh smiled and whipped the tears off her cheeks. She leaned her head back on the pile of coins and closed her eyes; hands moving down to cradle Rouin’s head.
Neither said a word as they slept in the circle of each other’s arms.

Suoh sighed and opened her eyes as she heard the jingle of coins. She turned her head to the side to see Rouin standing with his back to her. He stretched, yawned and reached behind to scratch his rear, cracking his neck loudly.
Suoh couldn’t help the giggle that escaped her. "Aren’t you a sight for sore eyes," she said sitting up.
"Eh?" said Rouin looking over his shoulder at her as she sat up. "Ah, you’re awake," he said turning to face her. "There’s a spring by the base of his mountain, care for a morning swim?"
Suoh looked at him warmly. He looked so different, no that wasn’t right, he looked like he use to, mouth always in a small smile, posture proud and tall, eyes soft and kind.
"Come on," he said offering her a hand. Suoh took it and allowed him to hoist her up to her feet. Together the two walked silently through the dark tunnels and out of the mountain to a pretty spring surrounded by trees and ground brush. Already naked they walked into the icy water and washed.
Suoh sat on a rock; legs half-submerged in the water watching a quail and her cluck of chicks scratch around in the brush. She sighed and closed her eyes when she felt strong hands on her bare shoulders as Rouin moved behind her and began washing her back.
"Will you be going back to Inari today?" asked Rouin.
"Do you think once was enough?" asked Suoh not opening her eyes.
"Yes, I know that it was," said Rouin leaning against her back and slipping one hand around to rest on her stomach. He rested his head on her shoulder and breathed in deeply.
Suoh snorted. "Quite confident aren’t you."
Rouin laughed. "Yup."
"What makes you so sure?" said Suoh opening her eyes.
Rouin grinned. "Because you smell nice."
Suoh blinked her red eyes in confusion. Then scratched her chin in thought. "That makes no sense, Rouin."
The taller black laughed and pulled back to sit on a rock by her. "It does to me," he smiled. Then he got a serious look on his face. "Which reminds me of that favor I wanted."
Suoh snorted again. "Why do I owe you a favor, after all I was the one on the bottom." She lifted a finger and pointed it at him. "If you ask me I should only owe you a favor if you’d been the one of the bottom."
"Poor, Suoh," grinned Rouin. "Still sore about being the submissive one."
"Grrrrrr," said Suoh baring her teeth at his poor choice of words.
Rouin laughed and leaned back on his rock. "I don’t think you’ll mind this request too much," he said smiling and closing his eyes. "Kaoru."
"What?" said Suoh cocking her head to the side in a curious manner.
"Kaoru, its name will be Kaoru."
Suoh smiled softly. "Yes, I don’t mind that request at all. Kaoru," she said leaning back like Rouin.
"Suoh about Inari, if you think he’ll be angry with you why don’t you stay here with me?" said Rouin.
Suoh’s eyelids dropped half way and she sighed again. "I’ll be alright. I don’t know if he’ll understand, but I know he won’t hurt me."
"Are you sure?" asked Rouin moving closer to her. "Because if anything happens Suoh," he reached up and touched the side of her face. "I don’t know what I’ll do this time…"
Suoh smiled reassuringly at him and leaned her face into his hand. "Trust me, I’ll be fine. Some how I just now everything will be fine."
Rouin leaned forward and kissed her on the forehead. "I hope so, Suoh. I hope so."

It was late at night when Suoh once again entered Inari’s room from the glass doors. Inari sat up in bed and watched at the familiar figure walked towards him. He reached out a hand and grabbed Suoh pulling the ryu into his arms and on the bed.
"You’re back rather early this time," said Inari into the ryu’s hair. "Aren’t you still in heat?"
"No," said Suoh. "Not any more." She sighed into his chest and cuddled up against him.
Inari grinned and ran a hand down her side. He blinked his silver eyes and moved his hand up to her chest groping the soft flesh he felt there.
"You’re in this form again," said Inari looking down at her in confusion.
"Yes," said Suoh softly. "I won’t be fighting the Meikai again for a while."
Inari smiled brightly at her. "You mean you’ll be staying here with me and Kogare again?"
"Yes," said Suoh moving closer into the circle of his arms. "I will be."
"This is very good news Suoh," said Inari burying his face against the ryu’s neck. He sighed and breathed in deeply. "Hmmm," he said.
"What?" asked Suoh there was a bit of nervousness in her voice.
"Nothing, you just smell nice," he said kissing her neck. He was a bit confused as he felt Suoh’s muscles slowly relax against him.
"I love you," said Suoh softly against him.
Inari smiled and brushed a hand across her cheek. "I know you do."
Suoh curled up more against him, closing her eyes she was soon fast asleep.
Inari didn’t follow her right away. He just watched her for a moment, thinking something was out of place. Maybe it was he’d gotten use to the male body again and was just adjusting back to the female one. Maybe it was that for once in a long time Suoh didn’t smell strongly of Rouin after going off with the other black ryu. Or may it was that Suoh now smelled of wild flowers, spring water, and other earthy scents. Inari thought about those things, no that wasn’t it. What was off was that Suoh hadn’t said his usual phase whenever he came back after being with Rouin. "Nothing happened," whispered Inari lightly reaching down to brush some black hair out of the ryu’s face. His hand stiffened and held in Suoh’s hair as he looked down at the small black. His breath sped up in this throat and his hand began to tremble as he dropped it to run down the ryu’s side again and over her belly. He watched Suoh’s face as the ryu sighed in her sleep and nudged closer to him, wrapping her arms loosely around his waist, a small smile graced her lips.
Inari looked at her sleeping face along time she looked so angelic, sweet, trusting… happy. Happy in a why he’d never seen her before, the stir of emotions that had briefly raced through him calmed down and he removed his hand on her stomach and rested it on her lower back, pulling her closer still. He rested his face against the side of her neck and closed his eyes. Suoh, no matter what happens, you will always be my ryu, always mine, said Inari silently to himself.

Kurama groaned and opened his eyes in the dimly lit tunnel. Suoh had a second child, one that wasn’t his and Inari’s, but Suoh and Rouin’s? And stranger yet his past life hadn’t been disturbed by the news. Had been excepting and content with it. Kurama closed his eyes again, Inari was content because in the end it was he who had Suoh in his arms and not Rouin. He frowned slight, such a strange twist, he would have thought his past character would have been furious with the ryu. After all had he not been over come with jealously when he’d seen Rouin kissing Suoh that one time? But that had been a different Inari, in a way, one that didn’t understand nor truly care about the creature that was Suoh. The Inari he now dreamed of was more mature, more understanding in the needs and ways of things. Strange, he wondered if this is how the youko’s appetite for multiple lovers came about, his brow creasing in thought.
"Kurama?" asked Kuwabara’s familiar voice.
"Hai," sighed Kurama. He was starting to feel like he and Kuwabara were the Togoro brothers with him always over one of Kuwabara’s shoulders. It was a freaky thought to say the least.
Kuwabara shifted the red head and put him down on his own two feet. "You okay?" he asked holding on to him encase Kurama wasn’t quite focused yet.
"Yah," said Kurama rubbing his hand through his long red hair and looking around.
Yusuke went over to Kurama. "You remember anything helpful?" he asked the kitsune in human disguise.
Kurama stared Yusuke in the eyes and couldn’t help the blush that crossed his cheeks. ‘Um yah, you and Hiei had a kid together,’ thought back the smart-ass youko in him. "No, not really," said Kurama looking away. God, he was going to have to keep an eye on Yusuke and Hiei when he got the short fire youkai back just to make sure none of that highly potent affection still existed between them, at least not in a sexual way.
"Eh?" said Yusuke confused with Kurama’s reaction. He must have seen something that was disturbing to him.
"We’re there," called Inari up front, gaining the attention of all present. They all hurried over to the golden god standing in front of an opening and gasped at what they saw. Treasure, mounts and mounts of treasure! More of the stuff then imaginable just lying in tall piles, sparkling like a golden desert in the dim light. None of them could stop the greedy glow that lit their eyes; hell a little of that stuff could make them rich in the ningenkai!
"Don’t touch!" barked Inari knocking them out of their fantasy world with a jump.
"H-hai," said all nervously eyeing the fox god.
"Forgive me Kaoru-kun for letting these small beings in your den," said Inari stepping into the treasure littered cavern.
Yusuke and the rest glanced at each other unsure if they were supposed to follow or not.
"Well?!" growled Inari turning to look at them.
They fell all over each other trying to get into the dragon’s den fast enough.
Inari sighed loudly and began walking through the dunes of gold and treasure still carrying Hiei, while the others followed at a slower pace unable to keep their eyes on one place for long, there was so much to look at in the den. Kurama almost ran into Inari as the god stopped and knelt down on a pile of coins and gems. He had to wave his arms to keep his balance as the others ran into him almost making him topple right over his patron god.
Kurama managed to tear his eyes off the mounds of glittering treasure and gasped so loudly he got the attention of all the others, who joined in with their own gasps.
In front of Inari was a tall, naked ryu that was absolutely beautiful. Its black hair was a long river running down its back and well past its long legs to continue down the pile of treasure it slept on. The ryu was black with a white face and belly, thick black lashes rested on pale cheeks, slender long fingers with long nails rested under its chin as it slept curled up. Graceful leathery wings fanned from its back, slightly transparent, one lay stretched out, the other curled up against the black’s back. They all watched as the tip of the ryu’s tail twitched back and forth in a lazy matter.
"What a stud!" said Botan clasping her hands together and looking at the black with heart shaped eyes. "Tall, Dark, handsome, and rich," she said sighing into her hands.
Everyone, ever the straight ones, blushed, yes Kaoru was beautiful, truly manifests in his natural state.
Kneeling next to the sleeping ryu Inari smiled sweetly and brushed some long black hair out of the ryu’s face to revel several red markings on the ryu’s forehead.
"What are those?" asked Kuwabara leaning forward to see the strange marks.
"Kaoru’s seal," said Inari tracing one rune with his fingertip. "You’ve grown so much," he said to the sleeping dragon stroking the rich thick hair. "I can’t call you little any more." He laughed low, "would you believe me if I told you he was only around three feet tall when I sealed him?"
They all stared at the creature in front of them and shook their head. Kaoru had to be close to seven foot!
With a fond smiled Inari reached around his neck and pulled off the golden chain with the white horn strung on it. He then reacted over to Hiei and completely uncovered the kokuryuha on his arm. "Wake up Kaoru, look at me," he whispered pulling the horn off the chain and placing it on the ryu’s forehead. A bright light surrounded the horn’s base.
In the Reikai the kokuryuha howled and reared, lifting its head it screamed a deafening roar before breaking apart into a black swirl of fire, leaving several confused onis looking up at the now clear skies.
Everyone backed up as black fire suddenly surrounded Hiei’s arm and just as suddenly disappeared along with the black dragon mark that had once graced his now pale arm.
"What?" said Kuwabara looking with shock at the now bare arm. "It’s gone."
"Hmm," came a low groan from the black ryu. Everyone held their breath as Kaoru lifted his head, long hair cascading down his bare back, he raised a slender hand and rested it against his head, then opened his eyes and looked at Inari with rich red eyes.
"He looks kind of like Hiei," whispered Yusuke the first to speak. Everyone had to agree, with the black hair, white face, and blood red eyes, there was a diffident resemblance between them.
The black ryu cocked his head to the side in a curious manner still looking at Inari, then blinked his red eyes at the golden fox. "Onii-san?"
"Onii-san?" said Kuwabara.
"Onii-san!" shouted the black, face lighting up in one of the cutest, happiest grins possible on such a handsome face, right before the ryu leaned forward and wrapped his arms around the golden fox god, squeezing Inari in a crushing hug and rubbing his cheek against the fox’s happily. "Kogare Onii-san!" cooed the ryu at the golden fox who started to look winded from the bone-crushing hug.
"That’s the kokuryuha?!" shouted Kuwabara staring at the pleased black ryu chanting Onii-san while kissing Inari in a cute silly fashion. "This cutesy dragon, is the same one that comes off Hiei’s arm and devours demons by the handful?!"
"Onii-san!" sang Koaru standing up and twirling around with the fox god in his arms.
"Kaoru!" shouted Inari looking like a stuffed fox in the overly happy ryu’s embrace. His feet weren’t even touching the ground.
"Big brother, where have you been?" asked Kaoru holding Inari at arm’s length. "It’s been soooo long," cried the ryu hugging him again.
"Big brother?" asked Kuwabara looking so confused as he watched them.
"Hai!" chirped Kaoru. "Kogare is my big brother," he said with a big smile.
Kurama’s mouth dropped. "Big brother…" He looked at the black ryu, eyes getting larger as he did. Suoh’s second child, his and Rouin’s, a true black ryu.
Inari some how managed to brake Kaoru’s hold on him and dropped back to his feet.
"Onii-san," said Kaoru looking down at him. "You shrank." Indeed Inari was at least a foot shorter then the tall black ryu.
"No, you grew," said Inari, smoothing down his robes. "See," he said pointing to the long hair that went well past the dragon’s toes.
"Wow!" said Kaoru clasping both hands over his cheeks in awe of all the long black hair. "Pretty!" he chirped pulling on the long mass. "But too long," said the ryu with a frown. "I’m going to trip over it."
"What’s going on?!" shouted Yusuke quieting everyone. "This guy acts like a… a little kid! Is he really a furious black dragon?!"
Kaoru walked over to stand in front of Yusuke, towering over the teen. Even Yusuke had to make a small gulp as he looked up at the tall black ryu, who had an unreadable look on his face.
"Papa ryu?" asked Kaoru.
"Eh?" said Yusuke in confusion.
"Papa ryu!" shouted Kaoru scooping up the shocked Yusuke and cuddling him.
"W-what?!" shouted Yusuke struggling in Kaoru’s grip as the black purred happily. "I’m not your daddy! Let go you over grown lizard!" shouted Yusuke waving his arms and kicking his legs to no avail.
"Oh, Papa ryu. What happened to your wings and tail?" asked Kaoru moving to hold Yusuke upside down by his ankles as he looked for the said parts.
"Kaoru, what are you doing?" asked Inari.
"Papa ryu’s tail is gone," said Kaoru in an innocent manner.
"I never had a tail!" screamed Yusuke.
"Papa ryu?" said Inari looking at Yusuke hanging upside down from Kaoru’s grip. "Ack!," everyone had the pleasure of seeing a look of pure shock on the fox god’s face. "Rouin Ryu?"
"My name is Yusuke! Urameshi Yusuke!" shouted Yusuke waving his arms. "Ack!" said the teen as he found himself once again right side up and crushed against Kaoru’s chest as the ryu rubbed cheeks with him.
"Rouin papa," smiled Kaoru. "I’d know you anywhere."
"I’m Uramashi Yusuke!" shouted Yusuke at the top of his lungs.
"Kaoru are you sure?" asked Inari looking at the wildly protesting teen in Kaoru’s arms. The ryu only smiled and nodded his head.
"What does he mean by that?" asked Kuwabara staring at the scene, question marks particle visible around his head.
"Dragon’s are born with a unique ability to sense who their kin are. Your friend Yusuke appears have once been Rouin, an ancient black dragon. Kaoru senses this so reacts fondly to your friend. He thinks Yusuke’s his father."
Everyone’s mouths dropped at the news.
"Wait a minute," said Kuwabara. "Didn’t Koenma say that you use to be a black dragon named Rouin," he asked Yusuke.
"No!" shouted Yusuke trying to pry the dragon’s hands off of him.
"No, he said I was Huma, you were Rouin and Kurama was-"
"Kuwabara! You’re not helping!" shouted Yusuke from within the black’s hold.
"Why is he act like that?" asked Botan to Kurama.
"Yusuke or Kaoru?" asked back Kurama.
"Kaoru, I mean he looks full grown, but he acts like a little kid." She giggled into her hand. "It’s kind of cute really."
"Kaoru, act like a kid, because mentally he is one," said Inari to their side. "I sealed him when he was a mere hatchling, he doesn’t have the experiences of growing up."
"Oh," said Botan. She got a thoughtful look on her face then reached into her Kimono to like magic pull out a large sucker. "Oh Kaoru-chan want some candy?" he called waving it at the black dragon.
"Botan!" protested Kuwabara.
The black turned and looked at the object in the ferry girls hand, Yusuke soon found himself flying as the black ryu tossed him aside to run over to the blue haired ferry girl and look at her with big eyes.
"Ohhhh! I want one!" said Botan handing him the sucker and petting his glossy head as the dragon happily licked at the candy.
Yusuke undug his head from the pile of treasure he’d been thrown in. "Defeated by snuggling I’ll never live it down," said the raven-haired teen. He got to his feet and looked at the strange scene of Botan and Kaoru. "I hope it doesn’t follow me home, I can’t have pets in my apartment," said Yusuke.
"You’re Huma?" said Inari looking at Kuwabara.
"Me? Um yah, at least that’s who Koenma said I use to be," said the carrot top rubbing the back of his head.
Inari seemed to study him a long time, then smiled. "So you were all incarnated together. Huma, Rouin, Suoh…" he glanced at Kurama and the smile slipped from his face. He looked away. "Kaoru-kun," he called to the black dragon sitting on its heels next to Botan who was still petting a way.
The ryu pulled the sucker out of its mouth. "Onii-san?"
"Kaoru, I hate to say it but I didn’t unseal you just to see you again. I need your help."
A very serious look crossed Kaoru’s face and for a change he looked every bit his age, even with the large sucker in hand. "What’s wrong?"
"It’s Suoh, Kaoru-kun, he’s back and someone has gained control of him."
The ryu stood up tall. "They let mama ryu go?" he asked.
Inari shook his head. "No the Reikai didn’t let Suoh go, he’s free due to criminal circumstances."
"Inari? Where is he?"
"I’m Inari now Kaoru, he’s gone."
The ryu frowned, but didn’t say anything. There was an intelligent light in his red eyes that spoke of knowledge and not youth. "What are your plans?"
"We will Fight his youkai who hold Suoh, defeat him, destroy him if necessary. Then when Suoh is free we can go back to the Reikai together if you like, Kaoru-kun," he smiled at the tall ryu and walked over to touch his face in a warm gesture. “Just like the way were all use to be.”
"What a minute!" shouted Kurama. "What about Hiei?! Have you forgotten that he and Suoh are one and the same?!" demanded the fox.
Inari glared at the red head. "Would you rather we slay Suoh?!"
Kurama took a step back, shocked by Inari’s answer.
"One soul, two bodies, one of them is not coming back," said the golden fox god in a serious voice. He looked away from Kurama’s hurt green eyes. "I’m sorry."
"No…" said Kurama as the world grew fuzzy.
"Kurama!" shouted Yusuke catching the red head as he fell forward. "Damn it, Kurama! Not again! Kurama!"
