The Meikai War
Chapter 17
Enma was working at his desk, unaware of the chaos that had been loosed on
his land as he read and signed documents. He didn’t even look as the giant
doors to his office were pushed open and two figures walked calmly in. He did look
down when he felt an icy burning gaze looking at him with hatred. To say he was
surprised to see the small black ryu standing before him was an understatement.
"Suoh Ryu?" said Enma dropping his pen to his desk. "It’s not
possible."
"Oh but it is, Lord Enma," said Korin with a wide grin doing a
mock bow.
Enma narrowed his eyes at Korin. "It would seem you are the one that
dared unseal Suoh by your arrogant air. That ryu was never meant to be freed
not by you mortal, you’ve passed over a forbidden line. Tell me who is so
foolishly bold?"
"I, your highness, am Korin lord and master to Suoh Ryu and soon to be
lord and master of the Reikai as well."
Enma looked down at Korin with a blank look on his face, then threw back his
head and laughed. "Do forgive me for my lack of respect," said Enma
in amusement. "Even if you have collared Suoh, who has no doubt only grown
stronger with the passing of years, you can not hope to win. I too have only
grown stronger over time, and I was much more powerful then Suoh when he was
sealed to begin with. You are a fool begging for his death."
"Am I?" asked Korin in amusement. "We’ll see about
that," he said motioning to Suoh who stepped forward with the Ghostslayer
sword, angry snarl escaping from his throat. Suoh was pissed beyond words at
the god before him.
Enma smiled sadly at he ryu. "I know why you hate at me ryu, if I were
in your place I would too, but what you are doing now is wrong. Do not throw
away your life Suoh, if you live so to does your clan."
"Ha," said Suoh with no humor. “One does not make a clan, Lord of
Death. My kin are dead, I’m dead, my body just doesn’t know it yet.“ The look
in his eyes was like frozen fire, cold, but hot as well. “But even so, I can
not stop, Korin is indeed my lord and master now. I continue to draw breath
only because he orders it. His word is law, King of the Dead. I must obey. I
will obey with all my burning hatred for you," hissed the black dragon.
"Then you will die ryu," said Enma softly almost apologetically.
"Death is not a punishment, Enma; it is a release," said the ryu
with no emotion. "I wish you had killed me that day, so long ago. I wish
you’d let me die with some dignity, but instead you locking me in eternal
ice!" the ryu’s ki blazed around his form. “Now finish it!“ screamed the
ryu and charged at the giant god sword raised high.
"Perhaps I shall grant you your request last of the blacks! Come! Let
me end your misery!" shouted Enma standing up, his ki to blazed brighty.
Korin grinned widely as the two clashed, Suoh’s swift form darted around
Enma’s giant one, striking at every angle. Despite the ryu’s far greater speed
Korin knew that only one or two hits from Enma would be enough to distinguish
Suoh’s life, but that did not matter. He knew Suoh lacked the strength and
perhaps even the desire to defeat Enma. He could only hope the ryu would
inflict minor injuries to the giant of a god, but that was his hope, his plan.
He watched as Suoh ran the Ghostslayer sword across Enma’s arm slicing
through his jacket and into his flesh, blood slipped down the god’s arm to
splash on the floor.
Suoh ryu you are truly magnificent though Korin watching the ryu dance
around his opponent. The ryu who seemed so dead to the world now locked in
combat looked so alive, so wild and passionate. Enma had considered it an honor
for Suoh when he’d chosen the young black and sealed him. Suoh would be the
last ancient black, forever insuring that his brave and valiant kind would
never die out nor truly lose the strength of their pure blood. Though only Enma
and a few choice gods knew this since the ryu clans were no more and the
surviving descendents didn’t hold a fraction of the glory and strength they had
held in the past. Without their leaders and ancient brethren the ryus were
divided. If Suoh were to return to his kind the blacks would most surely follow
him as loyally as the ryu clans had followed Ryuujin, and if given time, they
might start to return to their former glory once again. Another reason Enma had
spared and sealed a small hand full of the ancient ryus, if they ever needed
that power and strength once again they could call the few left and breath life
back into the ryu race. Although, the risk would once more be a race that could
once again threaten there own.
Korin grinned wider still as more of Enma’s blood spilled on the floor.
Silently he closed his eyes and clasped his hands together uttering a small
chant under his breath as he focused on the fresh blood on the floor. Enma you
are a fool he thought. Suoh is not the threat, I am.
Enma’s ki flared around him tossing the light ryu back, he raised his hand
and slapped the ryu’s whole side with his open palm, watching as Suoh coughed
up blood on impact and was sent crashing to the ground to skid and roll. He
noticed Korin jerk and clasp to his knees as Suoh landed, blood rolled down the
tiger demon’s mouth almost as if the damaged done to Suoh had been inflicted on
him as well. He was unable to give that much thought as Suoh groaned and looked
up at him, laid out of on his back the ryu was battered and bruised but still
very much alive; the ryu made no move to continue their fight. Enma knew why as
he locked gazes with the small ryu. Death, the ryu was begging for his death,
wanted it so very much. Enma’s feature softened as he looked at the downed ryu.
It’s all right black you’ve fought long enough, it was wrong of me to deny
you peace. Inari proved that to me. Enma lifted his giant foot moving it over
the small black’s body, ready to stomp the ryu‘s life out.
I promise you ryu, your next life will be kinder to you. Inari awaits your
return to him. The giant god was about to end the ryu’s life, but a numbing
sensation ran up his whole body making him step back away from the ryu as a
dizzy feeling washed over him. He suddenly found the simple task of drawing
breath difficult as if the air around him had thickened some how. He glared
over at Korin who was still kneeling, blood running down the corner of his
mouth that was fixed up in a victorious triumphant grin.
Enma staggered and dropped to his knees one giant hand clamped over his
mouth, eyes closing, head shacking back and forth in denial of what was
happening. He opened his eyes and looked at the ground, around him painted in
his own blood was a magic circle, at every point of the six sided star he knelt
in was the rune of his golden seal copy perfectly in the red water of his lifes
blood. He snapped his head up to look at the grinning tiger demon once again.
Korin laugh loudly and slowly got up to his feet, obviously he had taken some
damage some how. He moved toward the kneeling god of death and held up the
golden seal before the furious god who was now trying to gather enough strength
to escape the magic circle, but unable to move his giant limbs which suddenly
seemed to weight as much as they looked.
"You know what I’m going to do to you ne?" said Korin waving the
seal before the angry god.
"You’re stealing the ryu’s life force aren’t you," said Enma
powerful voice sounding weak and tired. "You made yourself in destructible
to attack by sapping the life flow of such a powerful creature, that is why you
appear damaged even though I never touched you. You can’t die unless someone
kills Suoh."
Korin laughed, "So very true, but when I achieve your position and
power I’ll become a god and will no longer need my pretty ryu’s for that task.
But no point in taking any chance till I am immortal," said Korin.
"Now then," he stepped into the circle and held up the golden seal to
Enma. "Let’s not make the ryu suffer any longer then we have to ne?"
said Korin bringing the seal down to touch Enma’s flesh.
The giant god jerked, mouth dropping open in silent agony as the very core
of his immortal soul was touched by the seal. He could feel the intense power
and light of his life being pulled, no torn, from him ever so slowly; it was a
terrifying feeling, a soul searing frightening feeling.
Korin gasped and arched his back in pleasure, still on the floor Suoh gasped
as well but it was more out of fear then anything else. He could feel the
eternal energy of a god slowly beginning to fill his master through the
unbreakable hold Korin had on his own life. Suoh could feel his wounds healing
with the flow of power as Korin fixed his own discomfort by repairing Suoh. The
ryu buried his face in his hands and wept bitterly, soon Korin would be a god
and he would forever be enslaved, never again to see Inari in any shape or
form. His love forever out of his reach if Korin became the King of the Dead.
Suoh lifted his head and gazed at Korin as the tiger demon laughed and basked
in the glow of his new stolen power, his eyes then traveled over and lingered
on the Ghostslayer sword not far from his prone form.
There was still a chance, it would take some time for Korin to absorb all of
Enma’s power. If he could kill Korin before he finished with Enma then the
nightmare would end and amazingly enough his enemy, Enma himself, had given him
the answer on how to bring that about. The ryu slowly pulled himself up to his
elbows. Dragging his body foreword on the floor he crawled over to the sword
and gripped it. Raising the blade before his eyes he turned the point around
and aimed for his own heart. If Korin had so bond them to preserve his own life
till he achieved his goal then no matter the attack any damage inflicted on
Korin would be redirected to Suoh, who possessed the stronger of their two
bodies making him the host from their combined life flow. The only way to hurt
Korin now was to attack the host body and destroy it. Suoh swallowed, eyes
sliding closed as he drew back his hands.
There was a loud clang of metal skipping across the floor and Suoh found
himself pinned on his back, Korin’s weight on top of him.
"How dare you ryu!" growled Korin in a very threatening low tone. Suoh’s
gaze slide off Korin’s face and landed on the wall to his right, ashamed he
hadn‘t been brave enough to strike faster.
"I give you this order now, never, never! Will you rise up a hand to
neither maim or kill yourself, do you understand?!" he shouted down at the
ryu.
"Hai," said Suoh softly.
Korin ran his hand over the ryu’s cheek fondly. "You are mine, Suoh. I
feel your hurts, your pains, as you feel mine. When I’ve become a god then I
shall remove my hold on your life force and you shall be my pet, my servant, my
toy. Then your pains shall be yours alone to feel and ours to savor, but till
then you will live and you will protect me. Do you understand?"
"Hai," said Suoh still not looking at Korin. Korin fisted one hand
into the ryu’s spiky hair and yanked the ryu’s face over to look him in the
eyes. "You’re mine Suoh, not the clan’s, not Enma’s, not Inari’s, ‘mine‘.
Forever, never will I let another have you. All these years," he said
tracing the ryu’s lips, "I have looked for you, been obsessed with you.
The moment I saw you locked in ice I knew you would be mine. I will never let
go," he whispered almost tenderly leaning down to once against steal an
unwanted kissed from the ryu’s lips.
Suoh broken the kiss with a snarl and snapped his face to the side. "I
am Inari’s! No matter what you say or do I will always be Inari’s!"
Korin’s eyes grew wide as if shocked his pet would deny him something. His
shock was however short lived and with a growl he drew back his hand and
slapped the ryu hard across the face. "You will learn! With time ryu, you
will learn just how wrong you are!" he shouted pushing himself up.
Reaching down a hand he dragging the ryu up after him. Holding tight to one of
the ryu’s wrists he turned to look at Enma who glared at him with a mix of
defiance, fear, and disgust.
"Korin if you continue down this path you will send not just the Reikai
but the Makai and the Ningenkai into chaos. You’ll end up destroy the balance
between the three words, you can not hope to control them, you will fail,"
said Enma.
"I will not fail!" screamed Korin. "I will be ruler of all,
all shall bow before me or know my wrath! Soon you will be a mere mortal Enma
and I a god! I would worry about my own soul and not the three worlds if I were
you. I can still torment you, I have many means to pick from. Shall I let you
burn in the eternal fires of hell? Or would you prefer a more hands on
approach? I can have your skin peeled off layer by layer, your flesh eaten off
your bones, and your blood drunk by the hungry maw of lesser demons?! I can do
worse! Far worse!" threatened Korin. His threats drew no fearful reaction
from Enma and furious with the lack of response he turned around, yanking Suoh
along with him. He stopped at the door.
"Enjoy the few hours you have left Enma," he laughed as he left
the room Suoh in tow.

"Weeeee!" said Botan sitting all the way up on Kaoru’s head.
"Oh this is soooo much fun! It’s even better then an oar ride!"
"Kuwabara…. (gasp)…. I need those ribs…" wheezed Yusuke who was
being bear hugged by the terrified Kuwabara.
Inari looked at the group with confusion. Children, Koenma hired children to
fight his battles for him! Were they really tanties? Heirs to the Makai?! Some
of the strongest fighters to exist in decades?!! Inari shook his golden head,
his perception of power levels was much higher then the average person, after
all he came from a time were many beings had such massive powers. He could
sense the ki of Koenma’s tanties and yes indeed they were powerful, but their
attitudes…
"Kuwabara you whimp, be a man!" yelled Yusuke trying to pry the
carrot-top’s arms off him.
"I am a man! I just like my dragons to have seatbelts," he said
tightening his hold on Yusuke.
"If you keep this up you’re going to make me drop Kurama and then Hiei
will fry you with his dragon when he wakes up!" yelled Yusuke.
"We’re sitting on his dragon!" cried Kuwabara.
Inari sighed scooting a little farther up Kaoru’s neck, he was once again
holding Hiei safely against his chest. He didn’t know why but he still held a
fondness to the little Koorime boy, even though he was quite sure Hiei was gone
for good, still… He looked at the young face, it seemed unfair to cut his life
so short.
Inari snapped his face forward, Suoh had been young as well by ryu standards
and it had definitely been unfair what had happened to his mother ryu. He
wasn’t going to lose Suoh again, even if it meant making a sacrifice.
"Here! I see it! I see it!" shouted Botan on Kaoru’s head waving
her arms and pointing ahead.
Everyone looked in the direction Botan had indicated to see the Reikai
palace coming into view.
"Hey, the place looks alright!" said Kuwabara shielding his head
and looking over Yusuke’s shoulder. "You think we got here before
Korin?" he asked.
"No," drifted back Kaoru’s powerful voice. "I smell it. I
smell the scent of another ryu in the air, Suoh’s scent, Suoh is here."
"Then why does the palace still look intact?" wonder Yusuke out
loud.
Inari frowned. "Kaoru take us down in the middle of the palace.
"Hai," said Kaoru wheeling around for a slow descendent down, he
looped twice around the whole palace and finally hovered above the courtyard.
Kaoru lightly touched down and lowered himself to his belly allowing everyone
to climb off.
"Oh thank you Kami-sama," said Kuwabara falling to his knees on
the ground. They watched as Kaoru shifted back to his tall humanoid shape and
moved to stand next to Inari.
"Kaoru?" asked Inari.
"Yes, mama ryu was here, the scent is very strong. I also smell
blood."
"Blood?" asked Yusuke. He looked up as onis began walking out of
the buildings.
"Ah good, your nose mustn’t be working right Kaoru, look here come
Koenma’s workers. You probably got dust in it from sleeping so long," said
Kuwabara climbing back up to his feet and throwing Kurama over his shoulder.
"Oi! Where’s Koenma! Tell him we’re here!" shouted Kuwabara waving
his hand at the onis.
"There’s something wrong here," said Yusuke eyeing the onis as
they walked in a lifeless fashion towards them.
Inari drew his blade and cursed. "They’ve been possessed," he
hissed between his teeth.
"What?!" shouted Botan gasping as she spotted a familiar blue oni
among the growing mob. "No it can’t be…(gasp) the sword! The Ghostslayer
sword! He used it on them!" cried Botan backing up as the onis circled
around them.
"We’re going to have to fight our way in," said Yusuke. Botan
whirled her oar smacking onis out of their way, Kuwabara and Yusuke just
punched whoever came close to them, Inari worked with a mix of sword techniques
and plants, while Kaoru just bowled over everyone in his path tossing oni’s
left and right. They slowly made progress toward the palace.

Suoh and Rouin stood silently waiting with the rest of their kind as gods
and ryu’s alike gathered in the hall of challenge. Both were extremely excited
about this gathering for they knew half of what they would be discussing today.
Suoh’s eyes wondered over to Inari who stood next to Volcanus and Aphrodite.
It had been Suoh’s idea for them to stand with their own sides even though
Inari had protested it greatly. Inari was high strung about the gathering, the
fox had taken on a nervous air, sure something bad was going to happen. While
he might not be wrong, Suoh believed that if they all worked together and to
their best abilities then they would win, he trusted Ryuujin to lead them to
victory. He and Rouin were both eager to hear what parts they would play.
Inari looked across the room at Suoh unable to keep a worried look from his
face. Suoh had told him everything about what he’d learned of their plans. It
sounded very reasonable, but still risky. Never had there had been a barrier
like the one they planned to construct, there was no telling what might happen.
There could be a loophole some where in their brilliant plan that they knew
nothing about. The main reason for Inari’s concern was that he had been unable
to shake off that feeling of foreboding that had possessed him when he met and
heard that human, Huma, out. He had a bad feeling that his happy little world
was about to crumple around him, was it his fear of losing to the Meikai? Or a
fear of losing something greater, but what could possible be a greater loss
then losing to the Meikai?
Ryuujin entered and the ryus bow low in respect to him rising when he bid
them to. A long silence filled the air that was nerve wrecking in its
emptiness. Enma was the first to break that silence.
"Ryuujin and I had spent the last few nights together discussing our
options and have come to an agreement on the best corse of action to take
against the Meikai. We shall mass our forces and attack on the next full
moon."
A low roar ran through those gathered.
"We have decided," said Enma once the crowd died down, "that
we will face the Meikai in the Ningenkai and trap them in their own web. Five
elemental sites will be constructed on the Ningenkai island known as Japan.
Aresism, you shall lead the ryu clans and our forces in the attack which will
be to force the Meikai’s forces inside of the elemental shield."
"Enma," called out Aresism. "Surely our plan is not to simply
drive them we will fight yes?!"
There was an eager roar of agreement with his words.
"Yes Aresism," said Enma. "We will fight, but not till after
their power has been drained and their forces depleted by the elemental
shield."
"Shield?" said Aresism. "How will this shield work?"
"Ryuujin," said Enma motioning for the ryu to explain.
"The element shield shall be constructed of five ryus who will be
controlling the five elemental stones. With these stones power shall be
gathered to hold and contain the Meikai in a select section of land long enough
for its own power to start tearing it apart. The Meikai will destory itself,
its land and creatures torn and broken apart piece by piece till nothing
remains."
Another low roar ran thought those gathered. "But Ryuujin-sama!"
protested one white ryu. "Won’t this give the Meikai what it wants?
Control of the Ningenkai?"
"Yes and no. Our hopes are that the five stone holders will be strong
enough to hold the shield long enough to deplete the Meikai’s forces to the
point that ours will have no trouble defeating them. The Meikai must be
completely wiped out or Meikai demons will be loosed in the Ningenkai to reek
havoc. If they are not completely destroyed the human world will become their
Meikai, we must not fail. It is the agreement of Enma and I that afterwards the
Reikai shall be in charge of protecting the Ningenkai from invading demons from
the Makai, which will become most unstable with the lose of their spiritual
realm. Because of the massive amount of energy required to hold the Meikai even
for a short period of time the Ningenkai will lose much of it magic and
strength, it will need guidance . For providing the stone holders it has been
agreed that the ryu race will not be required to participle in protecting the
Ningenkai after the battle, it shall be the soul responsibility of the Reikai.
After the barrier is down the clans and Reikai shall finish the job in a
combined effort."
"And the stone holders?" asked one orange ryu. "Who shall
they be?"
Ryuujin was silent a long time. "For the site of the soul, I myself
shall be its holder."
The ryu’s at once broke out in complaint when Ryuujin finished that
sentence. They shouted and pleaded, begged Ryuujin to pick someone else for the
job. He was too important to them to ever risk losing him.
"I have already made up my mind on the subject," said Ryuujin
silencing their protests. "I do not plan to die nor risk myself
recklessly. I chose myself as a stone holder because I have more experience
with containing high powers in my body and therefore am more likely to survive
the strain. My presents shall also lessen the strain on the other four carriers
since I can shoulder more of the burden for them." Ryuujin stared hard at
the concerned ryus. "I will not die till I’ve seen the end of this war,
this I promise you."
The ryus relaxed with the news, if Ryuujin swore he would then that meant
the ryu was sure that he’d survive. The words alone were enough to convince the
ryu clans that they were going to win, so great was their belief in the Golden
Ryu. An excited air filled the room as the ryu’s confidence rose greatly.
"The other stone carriers Ryuujin-sama. Who are they?!" asked one
purple ryu. More ryus shouted to know who would shoulder this burden with their
king.
"For the stone of Wind, I chose the green wind ryu, Yokokaze,” called
out Ryuujin.
Everyone turned to watch as a tall handsome green ryu, with striking yellow
eyes and mane, walked forward to bowed down at Ryuujin’s feet. "It would
be my honor to serve you King Ryu," said Yokokaze bowing his head even
lower.
Ryuujin smiled down at the ryu and reached down to pull him to his feet.
"Brethren, tis my honor to have you by my side in such an hour. I and the
clans are grateful for your willingness to help. You understand the risk?
"Hai," said Yokokaze. "I understand and fear them not, if I
die for my clan and people then so be it."
Ryuujin smile and held out a smooth clear stone strung on a silver cord to
Yokokaze who slowly moved to take it, but before he could one ryu called out
his protests.
"Ryuujin-sama, should not Rouin be the holder for the wind stone?"
asked one blue ryu. All turned to look at Rouin. "He is the strongest of
the wind element, the strongest besides yourself, surely he is more accustomed
to large surges of power running through him."
Many agreed calling for Rouin to take the stone.
"I will do as Ryuujin pleases," said Rouin’s powerful voice.
"He must have a good reason for picking Yokokaze."
Many quieted hearing Rouin speak.
"True, not just strength and power is needed, but a strong will and
control to master the stone. Rouin you are strong , but you are young and I
believe you need more time to master your own powers. You hate the Meikai too
much it may cause you to be too aggressive."
Rouin bowed his head. "I understand and respect your choice Ryuujin and
I wish you good luck Yokokaze. I shall be more then happy to take on your share
of Meikai demons when the real fighting begins," grinned Rouin. The clans
laughed lightly at Rouin good humor.
"Ah Rouin you’re more likely to hog them all for yourself,"
laughed one black ryu earning more laughs.
"Thank you brother, it does me good to hear that," smiled Yokokaze
reaching up to take the stone. A shiver ran up his spine the moment he touched
the clear gem. He swallowed hard a light tremor shaking his whole body.
Yokokaze shook his head and stood tall looping the chain around his neck to the
let the stone rest on his chest.
"You do well in your control Yokokaze many are unable to keep
themselves from reaching in some physical way when they first come in contact
with the stones. I do believe I have made the correct choice."
"Thank you Ryuujin," bowed Yokokaze, but despite his and Ryuujin’s
words all the blood had drained out of Yokokaze’s face and they could all feel
his ki rising as the stone tried to possess him and turn him into pure energy.
The very real danger of what they were doing hit them all, if one of the
holders couldn’t handle the strain they might very well become a force with no
goal that would destroy all in its path enemy or ally. They were all in very
real danger just being so close to the holders as they touched the stones for
the first time. No doubt Ryuujin had picked carefully his holders and trusted
in their abilities, but it still made many nervous with the thought
"For the earth stone, the purple earth ryu, Koudo."
A slender purple ryu with bright red hair and gem green eyes stepped forward
to kneel before Ryuujin. "Ryuujin I shall give you everything I have in
this mission," promised the ryu.
"I know you will Koudo, rise greet me as company and friend and not as
your better."
The purple ryu rose and embraced Ryuujin warmly.
"You understand the risks, Koudo? You are prepared?"
"As prepared as I will ever be," said the purple ryu.
Ryuujin held out a green stone strung on a silver cord to him and the ryu
slowly took it from Ryuujin. A small gasp escaped the purple as he went down on
his knee, ki jumping up to massive portion, eyes blazing green. Koudo closed
his eyes and growled low in his throat till his ki stabilized and he gained
control of the stone.
"Forgive me Ryuujin, I was not expecting it to be so hard," said
Koudo bowing his head.
"Do not think your reaction uncommon Koudo, Yokokaze has greater
control so he did not respond as visually as you did to the stone. Many would
have been consumed at a slip like that, but the fact that you gained control
before it could consume you if proof that you have what it takes to master the
stone. You will adjust, I believe you will succeed," smiled Ryuujin
reaching out to stroke the ryu’s red hair.
"T-thank you Ryuujin," said Koudo bowing to the golden ryu again.
"I will not fail you."
Ryuujin patted his head and looked back up into the crowd of ryus. "The
water stone shall be carried by the white snow ryu, Bakufu."
A short white ryu in female form glided forward. She had pale green hair,
soft blue eyes, and smiled sweetly as she knelt before Ryuujin. "My
lord," said the white ryu kissing Ryuujin’s hand.
"Bakufu, rise and let me show my affection for thee properly."
The white ryu rose and jumped up to kiss Ryuujin on the cheek wrapping her arms
around his neck. Bakufu had a reputation for being a very sweet ryu and served
Ryuujin well as a scout in the Meikai.
Ryuujin kissed her cheek and smiled sadly at her female shape. "Bakufu
I am sorry to have to ask you to do this, specially since I know you desire not
to fight, but breed. Will you carry the Water stone?"
"I will my Lord if it pleases you and helps to bring peace to my
people. Tis better to have children in good times without war breathing down
ones neck." As the female ryu said this her shape changed to a slender
white male ryu who appeared just as sweet and innocent.
"You know the risks and dangers? Do you still want the position?"
"Yes my lord, with all my heart," said the white ryu.
Ryuujin held out a blue stone to the white ryu who picked it up holding it
lightly and closing his eyes at the sensations that raked him. The white ryu
visible shuttered as if a cold chill had run down his spine. Tears slid down
the ryu’s pale cheeks before freezing to brake off and chime as they hit the
floor.
"Intense," whispered the ryu, "so very intense." He
opened his eyes a cloud of cold air escaped his lips which had turned blue
under the waves of water ki. "I promise to do my best for you
Ryuujin," whispered the white ryu.
Ryuujin smiled at the ryu and squeezed his shoulder. "That is all we
ask of you Bakufu." Ryuujin lifted his head and looked at the ryus before
him a long pause filled the room. Everyone tensed waited for the last ryu to be
called.
Inari’s heart all but stopped, fire… the last stone was the fire stone. He
locked his eyes on Suoh with a look of pure dread. Suoh looked back calmly and
even smiled softly for him.
"No…" whispered Inari taking a step foreword. "No…"
"The holder for the fire stone, shall be the black fire ryu,
Suoh," said Ryuujin.
A shocked gasp went through the clans and everyone turned to look at Suoh as
the ryu stepped forward.
"But Ryuujin!" shouted Rouin. "Suoh is too young! Younger
then even me! The other holders are all at least twice as old!"
"How can he possible have enough experience to control the fire
stone?!" shouted one green ryu.
"He’ll be consumed, he’s not strong enough!" protested a yellow
ryu.
Suoh ignored those and the many other protests as he moved to stand in front
of Ryuujin, eyes locked on the Gold Ryu’s golden ones. The little black ryu
smiled and knelt down before his king.
"Ryuujin are you still trying to guess my fate? Even after guessing
wrong with Kogare?" he asked in amusement. His words shocked everyone.
Ryuujin had guessed wrong?!
Ryuujin smiled widely and lowered his head laughing lightly. "Maybe I
am little black ryu."
"The darkest fire, is that not what you see when you look at me? Does
this mean I’ll be consumed?" asked the ryu. "What is your guess King
Ryu?"
"My guess is that you shall touch this stone and master it, I believe
the darkest fire has already been born from you." Ryuujin looked over
Suoh’s head at Rouin.
"Kaoru, you speak of my sweat Kaoru, does he seem so viscous in your
eyes my lord?" asked Suoh voice still sounding amused.
Ryuujin tossed back his head and laughed. "I dare say I have never seen
a more sweeter creature, too sweet to be yours and Rouin’s cub. But…" he
looked down at Suoh a very serious light in his eyes. "There is something
about Kaoru that is dark and powerful, there is no doubt in my mine that he’ll
surpass both of his ryu parents some day, he may become a creature of
legend." A long pause filled the air as everyone pondered Ryuujin’s words.
"I’ve seen hints of your fate in those red eyes of yours Suoh, and when I
look into the those matching red eyes of your sister and your offspring I sees
even more of your fate. I may not be able to read your future ryu, but I know
your path is a hard one. I believe that if any of us are to survive you out of
the five have the greatest chance."
A shocked roar ran though the ryus at Ryuujin’s words.
"Suoh you know the risks, do you dare touch the fire stone?" asked
Ryuujin dangling the stone on its silver cord before the still kneeling black
ryu. Suoh stared as the red stone as it twisted and turned before his face
almost hypnotically. Slowly the ryu held up his hand and Ryuujin began to lower
the stone.
"No!" screamed Inari pushing past his fellow gods to run out in
the middle of the room. "Ryuujin don’t! Not my Suoh!"
"Inari…" said Suoh eyes going wide as the looked at his silver
lover. Ryuujin also looked over his shoulder at the silver fox god.
"Inari pick another, but not Suoh," said Inari. "He is not
ready, they all think he is not, do not give him the stone!"
"Inari!" shouted Enma. "Do not interfere, Ryuujin knows which
ryus are best for the task. Just because you are fond of that one does not
exclude him," shouted Enma’s booming voice.
"Inari," said Ryuujin calmly. "Do you say this out of concern
for the Reikai or out of concern for Suoh?"
"It doesn’t matter, he is not the right one, pick another," said
Inari.
"But it does matter," said Ryuujin calmly. "I want to know if
your opinion is based on your feels or what you think is the right choice. Do you
doubt that Suoh can master and use the fire stone? Or do you just wish to
protect your lover?"
Inari drew back slightly hearing Suoh being called his lover, true he was,
but he had never been publicly announced as his lover before. The title lover
and his reaction to it only server to remind Inari just how delicate things
were. He loved Suoh, loved him like no other creature, yet that love was
forbidden and wrong to his fellow gods, a sinful act on his part. He wanted to
say Suoh shouldn’t be the stone holder because he wasn’t qualified, but that
wasn’t true and he couldn’t say a lie. But to say he didn’t wish Suoh hurt or
worse because he was his lover wasn’t a reasonable enough excuse to prevent
Suoh from being the stone holder, and if he said so then he admitted that he
loved Suoh enough to be so selfish. He wanted to say it, but he couldn’t even
tell the ryu he loved him, even though he knew he did. How could he tell
everyone, his fellow gods, what he felt for the little ryu when he couldn’t
even whisper those sweet words in Suoh’s ear?
Several long seconds paused before the silver fox bowed his head unable to
speak his answer out loud. He looked up and begged the black ryu with his eyes
to not take the stone. Suoh held his gaze a long time then looked away, the ryu
stood and reached up his hand again for the stone.
"Ryuujn, let us see if you’ve guessed correctly this time," said
Suoh.
"Yes, let us see," said Ryuujin smiling softly at the ryu as he
lowered the stone to touch the palm of Suoh’s hand. Everyone held their
breaths.
The chain dropped from Ryuujin’s hand and nothing happed, Suoh didn’t finch,
didn’t move, didn’t show any stress like the others, his ki didn’t even flicker
from it normal warm glow. Even Suoh seemed confused as he fingered the stone
looking for a reaction, but feeling nothing at all.
"I don’t understand… I don’t feel different at all," said Suoh
looking down at the stone, wondering briefly if it was a fake.
"I knew it," smiled Ryuujin. Suoh looked up at him in confusion as
did everyone else.
"You survived holding an immortal god inside your body, survived losing
that power when Kogare was born, and showed no sign of stress or strain at all
during which. The processed made you extremely tolerant to such strong outside
forces coursing though you. Something that is taking your fellow ryus quite a
bit of effort, can’t even be felt by you."
Suoh looked extremely embarrassed as all the other ryus looked at him with
awe.
"You mean he’s already mastered the fire stone?" asked one red ryu.
"Yes," said Ryuujin looking down at Suoh. "Just as I
‘guessed’ he would," smiled the Golden Ryu down at the small black.
Suoh smiled and looked down at the stone. "Then hopefully I shall be
able to take some of that extra burden off your shoulders Ryuujin," said
Suoh looking up at his king with a small smile.
"That you may Suoh," smiled Ryuujin. Ryuujin cleared his throat.
"These four and myself shall go tomorrow night and being the process of
setting up the elemental sites. Then two nights after the moon shall be full
and our grand battle shall being."
The ryus and gods alike cheered, soon, very soon the war would be over, its
out come had yet to be determined, but they would all know soon enough.
Suoh stood among the other stone holders as their kind cheered and shouted
blessings at them. Suoh smiled along with Ryuujin and the others till he turned
and spotted Inari. The silver fox was looking at him with worry and dread
stamped all over his face, as if he was already lost to him. Wordlessly Suoh
left to stand next to him.
"Believe in me Inari and I will return to you," said Suoh softly
taking his hand and holding it against his cheek. "I’ll come back to you
as long as you want me," said the ryu softly.
"Forever," whispered Inari causing Suoh to look up at him. He drew
the ryu up against him. "Then you shall be with me forever little ryu, I
will hold you to your words," he whispered into the ryu’s hair. His grip
tightened on the small black as if afraid Suoh would vanish as nothing more
then an illusion.
* * * * * * * * * * *
Suoh sat on the bed he shared with Inari and ran a brush through his long
rattail, stroking it till the hair gleamed black and he met no resistance at
all with the brush. With a sigh Suoh dropped the brush and let the long hair
hang free down his back like a black waterfall. He fingered the red stone
around his neck and lifted it by its cord to twirl before his face. Suoh had
changed the fine silver chain that the stone had been strung on before to the
silver cord of Inari hair that he always wore; it felt right to do so.
The black ryu sighed again and dropped the stone back to his chest, he stood
up and walked out of the room closing the door behind him. Silently the ryu
stalked down the hall till he arrived at Kaoru’s room and peeked inside. He
smile lightly when he did not spot the ryu laid out on his bed and moved to the
other room farther down the hall and looked inside. A very warm smile graced
Suoh’s face as he leaned against the doorframe and looked at his two children.
Kaoru was curled up in a tight ball against Kogare’s side, little face pillowed
on Kogare’s chest, small hand curled up under his chin. Kogare on the other
hand was all spread out, the covers had been kicked off him as he breathed
deeply in sleep, one arms looped around Kaoru’s small form the other curled up
over his head. Suoh almost expected to hear a loud snore from the golden fox,
but despite Kogare’s laid out position the fox had always been a silent
sleeper.
Kaoru often snuck into his older brother’s room to sleep there, Suoh had
noticed long ago that the little black ryu cub seemed afraid to sleep alone, he
would either crawl into bed with Inari and him, Kogare, or Rouin whenever his
black ryu papa stayed the night.
Ryuujin is right, too sweet to be mine and Rouin, but… I don’t see any
darkness around him, what did Ryuujin mean? The little black ryu cub stretched
slightly in his sleep and flapped his wings lightly, curling up tighter to
Kaoru’s side, little hands fisting into the fabric of Kogare’s nightshirt.
"Suoh," whispered a soft voice behind the ryu. Suoh only closed
his eyes and leaned back as two slender yet strong arms wrapped around him from
behind and pulled him back against a body he knew well.
Inari leaned down and kissed the ryu’s neck. "You have a long day
tomorrow Suoh, come to bed," said Inari softly.
"I do not feel like sleeping just yet," said Suoh just as softly.
"Nor do I," breathed Inari pressing up tighter against Suoh’s
back. "Come to bed, please," he asked.
Suoh leaned his head back on Inari’s shoulder turning his face to the side
to bury it in Inari’s silky mane, hands wonder back to grip Inari’s hips as he
rocked him slowly.
Without a word Inari lifted the light ryu and turned carrying him down the
hall back to their own room where he gentle lowered him to the large bed and
pulled back to tug off his top robe. He leaned back over the black ryu and
cupped either side of Suoh’s face running his thumbs over Suoh’s lips. The ryu
tilted his face to the side and kissed Inari’s palms. Inari let his weight lay
on the smaller ryu, pressing him down to the bed as he leaned down and kissed
the ryu very tenderly, softly, taking his time as he tasted the ryu as if for
the first time.
They parted with a small pant for air and gaze into each other’s eyes, no
words were need, none were spoken as Inari’s hand pulled at their clothes
slowly undressing them both till they lay naked together in each other’s arms,
both now on their sides. Slowly Inari lightly ran his hand down Suoh’s side
letting his long finger nails trace the ryu’s slight curves running from his
ribs to his knee and back up, eyes glued on the ryu who smiled ever so softly
as he did so. Inari’s hand moved down behind the ryu to caress the ryu’s rear,
eyes still locked on Suoh’s flaming red ones. Suoh’s eyes slid shut and the ryu
leaned into him, moving their bodies closer together and face up to kiss Inari
sweetly but with growing passion as their tongues play with one another. Inari
groaned into the kiss and slid his other hand under Suoh, both hands squeezed
the ryu’s rear and brought Suoh’s body tightly up against his.
He wanted this night to last forever, to never end, for he fear that it
maybe his last night with the ryu, that if he let Suoh out of his sight he
would never see him again. Inari crushed the ryu against him in both a sexual
and needy manner; he couldn’t bare the thought of his loss. To live forever
without the small creature in his arms, to go one day without him, without
those blood red eyes, that ashy pine scent, that wonderful body against his. It
was unthinkable.
One of Inari’s hands moved up Suoh’s body to trace across the ryu’s lips
silently asking for entrance. Suoh’s tongue flicked out to lick his fingertips.
Inari smiled at the ryu and moved his fingers into Suoh’s mouth feeling around
in that wet, warm space. He closed his eyes and rubbed himself against the
black as Suoh sucked on the digests, stroking them with his small tongue. Inari
breathed in deeply Suoh’s scent feeling the ryu’s heat wash over him like a
warm blanket. He slowly pulled his fingers out of the ryu’s mouth and leaned in
to replace them with his lips and tongue, passionately dominating the ryu in
the way they both liked best. His fingers traced down Suoh body in a wet caress
and moved under the ryu’s tail to gently probe. Suoh arched against him, but he
wouldn’t allow the ryu to break the kiss just yet, kissed harder and slowly
moved his fingers inside the ryu stretching and leaving him slick.
When Inari finally broke the kiss Suoh was panting quite loudly against him
in excitement. The ryu eagerly nudged Inari’s throat with his face and opened
his legs to wrap them around the fox god’s waist moving his hips in time to
those slender fingers stroking his inner wall. Inari lifted his head and just
watched the flushed ryu a few moments, drinking in the sight of Suoh’s aroused
body silently begging to be fulfilled and pleased by Inari. He so loved to do
so to Suoh, make the ryu need his touches and caress, make Suoh want him to the
point the ryu would do anything for him.
He removed his hand from the ryu’s rear and slid it down to grip Suoh’s
thigh, dragging the ryu’s body even tighter against his, his arousal hard and
pressed against Suoh. Inari ran his tongue over Suoh’s lips and kissed the ryu
hard, swallowing Suoh loud groan in his throat as he move into him, feeling
that all too familiar tight heat around him; inflaming his already drunk mind.
He continue to kiss Suoh deeply as he drew back his hips and shoved them forward
into his partner, muffling another cry from the ryu.
This body how he loved it, loved to please it and make it say his name over
and over again, but his time Inari wished for silence. Wished to show his mate
his feelings in only a physical way. He knew that if he let Suoh speak then the
ryu would tell him he loved him. How many times had Suoh said those words to
him? So many times, each one a treasured gift to his ears, but not once had
Inari told Suoh that he loved him back. No matter how much he wanted to voice
those three words they won’t come, so they would make love silently. If he
couldn’t say them then neither would Suoh, it wasn’t far for the ryu to so
openly display his love for him when he was too much of a coward to do so back.
Inari’s hand fondled the ryu’s side and back sliding up and down the glossy
scales, squeezing and groping that wonderful body against his. He only broke
their deep kiss long enough to allow them both some air before moving back to
kiss even deeper and wilder his partner. Suoh was helpless under the assault,
Inari’s love making was too intense this time. The fox’s goals seemed to place
Suoh’s pleasure before his own, Suoh could only react to the fox’s touches
unable to think clearly with the skill Inari used on him. The ryu groaned
deeply into Inari’s mouth as the silver god rolled so he was on top, moving
deeply and intensely inside the black ryu.
Suoh panted between the short breaks Inari allowed him, eyes looking up
unfocused at the silver god whose attention was so focused on him. Suoh tossed
back his head mouth opening to make a cry only to have it muffled once again by
Inari, the fox increased his pace and the amount of force he was using to take
him with. The ryu’s hands went up to hold Inari in a desperate manner, the
world had shrunk to the only the two of them and their need for the other.
Suoh whimpered into Inari’s mouth and arched off the bed as climax crashed
down on him, making his vision flash white. Inari closed his eyes and held
tight to Suoh’s hips, keeping himself deep in the small ryu as his own pleasure
race through him taking with it all his strength. Inari finally broke the long
kiss to lay drained on top of the panting ryu, his own chest heaving for air as
he listened to the mad beating inside the ryu’s breast slowly slow to a calmer
pace.
Inari closed his eyes, not wanting to move from that comfortable position,
he just lightly rubbed his hands up and down the ryu’s sides enjoying the
warmth from the fire ryu’s body. He glanced up at Suoh sated eyes gleaming red
in the dim light, his line of vision lowered as he spotted another object
gleaming red in the dim light: the fire stone.
Suoh looked down his own body wondering what had gotten Inari’s attention
till he also looked upon the fire stone laying on his chest strung on the
silver cord made from Inari’s mane. Suoh slowly reached up a hand and wrapped
it around the stone, hiding it from Inari’s sight, he smiled at his partner and
leaned forward to kiss Inari on the forehead hoping to distract him from what
lay a head. "I Love you Inari, you know this right?" asked Suoh
softly running his free hand through Inari’s long tassels.
Inari looked up into Suoh's eyes, yes he knew it. Even if Suoh had never
said it he would have know, he could see it in Suoh's eyes so full of love and
devotion to him. Inari opened his mouth, but no words came out, no sweet I love
you too Suoh. Why couldn't he say it?! What did he fear would happen if he did
voice it?! Inari lowered his head and buried it against Suoh chest. "Hai,
I know you do, Suoh," he said wrapping his arms around the ryu's waist.
"I know you do," he whispered closing his eyes.
"Inari?" whispered Suoh as he watched the god's shoulders shake
and heard soft sobs drift from him. "What's wrong Inari?" asked Suoh
touching the side of his face.
Inari looked up at the black ryu, eyes wet with tears, slowly one tear slid
down his pale face and dropped on the ryu's hand that covered the fire stone.
Inari smiled and reached up a hand to stroke Suoh's face. "Promise me… promise
me Suoh that you will not take risks with your life."
Suoh stared down at his partner a worried frown creased his brow. Could he
make such a promise? It might be necessary to sacrifice himself for the good of
the clans, the good of the Reikai, for the good of all he loved.
"Promise me Suoh," said Inari sitting up slightly on the ryu and
staring Suoh straight in the eyes. "If it comes down to a choice between
life and death, no matter what promise me you will pick life."
"Inari…" whispered Suoh stroking his face.
"Promise," demanded Inari taking Suoh's hand, eyes still locked
with Suoh's.
"I… I promise you," whispered Suoh softly.
Inari smiled and leaned down to kiss Suoh, then slid down to rest his head
on Suoh's chest, laying over the ryu once again.
