A/N: Mm, to answer to the reviewer no, I don't have a fanfiction account or a Y!Gallery. That is the one thing I really do hate about this site... no alert system... oh well. I'll just try my best to be fairly regular with my updates.
Kurama didn’t even stir as food was placed down behind him. He just continued to rest, curled up protectively around his stomach and facing the wall he was chained against. It was now approaching five months as Karasu’s captive and he was starting to worry about the life of his child. Karasu had increased the number of meals Kurama was given as well as the amount of water and even had become gentler in his daily rapes (if that were possible). But Kurama knew he was severely underweight and far too weak and he was afraid he wouldn’t be able to hold out another four months. He was fairly obviously pregnant at this point and whatever energy he had was directed to his womb to keep the kit alive and still he was worried it wasn’t enough. He should be feeling the baby moving more than he did.
The tortures continued as well, which worried Kurama he might not even survive long enough to bring his child into the world. Karasu had begun to ease off using his bombs, only at most using two on him in a session, but to make up for it he’d grown a pension for razor blades. The crow was also more than happy to take his time and force Kurama to feel every millimeter of the cuts he inflicted. And then the salve he had his servants put on Kurama’s wounds afterwards only served to make it worse. While it did make them heal remarkably fast, it was the most painful thing the redhead had ever had put on cuts. The Youko in him was somewhat intrigued as to what was in the concoction to make it burn in his wounds like acid for hours after it was applied but the rest of him just wanted it to stop. He wanted it all to stop. His human sensibilities had already long fled to the back of his mind and even the demon in him was starting to shy away. He wouldn’t last under the never stopping torture much longer. Kurama hated to admit it but he was breaking. Kurama heard explosions up above but ignored them. Karasu must be angry today for some reason. Or maybe he was just feeling bored and sadistic. That could be it too. The crow was known for unnecessary displays of violence just because he was bored. Kurama dozed off some to try and conserve energy, knowing he’d be force fed the food on the tray if he didn’t eat it anyway and though that was painful it did still take less effort on his part. The sound of running echoed through the dungeon but again Kurama ignored it. It was probably just some servants hurrying to do what they were told before Karasu painted the walls with their innards. It wasn’t anything for him to be concerned with. He had far more important things to focus on. He knew he’d almost lost the kit a few times from the rough treatment and he was mostly certain it was only his energy working to calm the unborn babe that had managed to stop himself from going into labor far too early and miscarrying. Everything he had to give was going to his child. He wouldn’t let Karasu rob him of his baby. The fox could have sworn he heard a gasp and his name but he was only half conscious after today’s torture so dismissed it as his imagination. Suddenly he was taken into a pair of warm strong arms and there was another gasp. Kurama forced his heavy eyelids to open and almost cried at the beautiful red eyes staring down at him in horror. He knew he looked bad but he couldn’t care right now. “… Hiei…” he murmured, trying to turn into his lover despite the shackles. “Shit, what did that bastard do to him?” Kurama could pick that out as Yusuke’s voice but just closed his eyes and took comfort in Hiei’s arms. He immediately started leeching reiki from Hiei and already was feeling a bit better. Not nearly good enough, but better. “Hold on, Fox,” Hiei murmured before the familiar sound of a sword being drawn filled the room. Hiei’s sword slashed through the chains keeping his fox restrained and carefully wrapped his cloak around Kurama’s broken and pregnant body. Hiei wanted to rip that crow apart for doing this to his fox but turned his main focus to the redhead that needed immediate medical attention. He’d never seen the fox this bad before. He could actually count the vertebrae in Kurama’s back. He carefully picked the redhead up, very worried about how light he was. He shouldn’t be this easy to carry… especially when he was with child. Hiei quickly adverted his thoughts away from that. He’d only get enraged if he thought about it right now and Kurama didn’t have the energy to survive if he lost control of his jagan. “Hiei, how is-” “Later,” Hiei said gruffly. He knew what the detective was going to ask. How Kurama could be pregnant when he was a man. But he didn’t have the time nor patience to be a teacher to Yusuke right now. “He needs to get to Yukina. Now.” Yusuke nodded. “Right.” In order to keep his temper, Hiei took great care not to look down at Kurama’s beaten face, matted hair, or abused body. Instead he focused only on running and channeling as much energy as he thought Kurama could handle into the redhead to help him build up his strength a bit more so that he could last to the portal that would take them to the temple and Yukina. He’d recognized the seals on the walls and door of Kurama’s cell. They were wards to keep the fox weak and to block Hiei’s jagan, much like the ones that had been holding Yukina. That would explain why he hadn’t been able to find his fox right away. And yet despite the wards he’d distinctly seen Kurama with his jagan a few days ago and that was how they’d come to find this place. It didn’t make sense in any way and Hiei had no answer for it at all so he pushed the strangeness to the side so that he could worry about other things. The male demon in him was raging at his mate with the scent of another male on him and that he was pregnant, most likely with that other demon’s child. Hiei wanted to rip the babe out of Kurama that instant but didn’t. Firstly, because he knew Kurama wouldn’t survive. And secondly, he knew his fox would be devastated if he lost the child. Even if it was from that crow bastard. And while the male demon in him was raging at the rape and pregnancy it was also screaming at him to protect Kurama in every way possible. He was incredibly torn. More so than he’d ever been about anything in his life. Even whether or not to tell Yukina he was her brother hadn’t torn at him like this was doing. Hiei and Yusuke ran nonstop though the detective fell behind because Hiei was using his utmost speed. He knew Yusuke was still following; he could sense it, he just didn’t have the time to wait on him. Once Kurama was safe Hiei would hunt down that damnable crow that had fled and butcher him for what he’d done. But he could do that at virtually any time; his vengeance would keep, Kurama would not. He could still see the horrible sight of Kurama laying in that tiny cold cell with nothing but a pile of rags, chains and a tray of untouched food. The redhead hadn’t even responded to them at first, showing just how terribly weak he was. Hiei had rushed to his side, not caring about the blood, open wounds, or how thin his lover looked. It wasn’t until Hiei had rolled him off his side the fire demon had been utterly horrified. He’d seen prisoners before and had expected the beating and thinness no matter how much it angered him. But he had not been expecting to see Kurama’s stomach clearly unnaturally rounded. He could feel that his cloak wrapped around Kurama was becoming saturated in the fox’s blood. Blood he couldn’t afford to lose. There were clear bloody gaping wounds from explosions on Kurama’s lower legs and his back had been missing skin in long strips. He was actually somewhat worried Yukina might not be able to heal the fox fast enough. Stubbornly he pushed the thought from his mind. Nothing would happen to Kurama. He would make sure of it. And if somehow Yukina couldn’t save him, it wasn’t as if that fool Koenma didn’t owe them at least one favor. Don’t worry, Fox. You’re safe now, he told the unconscious redhead mentally. He wouldn’t let Karasu take Kurama from him. He saw the portal up ahead but scowled at the demons that had congregated. The fools had probably smelled Kurama’s blood and thought they could cut off a wounded Youko for an easy meal. Well, they were greatly mistaken about that. Hiei didn’t bother with slowing down at all or even drawing his sword. The demons leapt but before they could even lay a claw on the couple a few well-aimed Spirit Gun blasts had easily destroyed the low level monsters. Hiei’s stride didn’t even break as he ran past them and into the portal. He was somewhat worried about if Kurama could take the strain of moving through the portal in his current condition but he didn’t have an option. He had to get Kurama to Yukina. The fox’s energy was almost nonexistent despite almost constantly leeching some off Hiei. Suddenly, they were in the forest around the temple and Hiei hurried to the building, already calling for his sister. Yukina and Kuwabara appeared almost instantly despite the late hour and the second their eyes landed on what little of Kurama they could see they were horrified. Yukina had tears building in her eyes as she covered her mouth with one hand. “K-Kazuma… get every medical supply we have,” she said shakily as she hurried after Hiei who had already run by. Kuwabara instantly agreed and went off to do as his wife told him. Hiei gently laid his mate on a futon, earning a slight moan of pain from the fox. “I’m sorry, Fox… but Yukina will have you feeling better soon,” Hiei murmured to him as he brushed some dirty and matted red hair out of Kurama’s face. Hiei sensed Yusuke and Kuwabara coming in and spared a glance to see them both carrying every medical kit in the entire temple. Yukina hesitated a brief moment before pulling Hiei’s cloak back so that she could see the damage. She gasped and Hiei heard Kuwabara say something he’d more expect from Yusuke. Yukina took a moment to process the situation before taking charge, directing Yusuke and Kuwabara to get and do things while she focused on patching up the wounds and leaving Hiei to continue to feed Kurama energy. Yukina worked nonstop for almost an hour before Keiko, Shizuru, and Botan arrived to help her as much as they could. The little Koorime continued working for several more hours until it was nearly dawn before sitting back with a sigh. She gently pulled the cover up over Kurama’s heavily bandaged body and glanced around the room at the anxious faces that were waiting for news. “I’ve stopped the bleeding and healed what I could right now but he’s not out of the woods yet,” she said, knowing that her friends would rather the truth than false hope. “He’s still so thin and dehydrated he may not make it…” Tears welled up in her eyes again as her calm control that came from being in charge of the healing efforts started to evaporate and the reality set back in. Kuwabara instantly wrapped his arm around his wife to comfort her, telling her how she’d done everything she could and did it well. Silence filled the room for several minutes before Hiei looked up from Kurama’s less battered but still bruised face. “And the baby?” he asked softly. He knew Kurama was probably worried about his kit so Hiei felt the need to make sure it was alright as well; though he still was less than happy about it. He knew he couldn’t possibly be happy until he had a chance to talk to Kurama and even then he wasn’t so sure he’d be happy. It wasn’t his baby after all. Yukina lowered her eyes again, clearly upset. “I’m not sure. They’re so weak and small. They haven’t been getting the proper nutrition so they may not be able to recover and make it to term…” Hiei stiffened and fixed his sister with a piercing gaze. “When you say ‘they’ you do mean Kurama and the kit… don’t you?” he asked in a low voice. Yukina shook her head. “No, Hiei… I distinctly felt two energy signatures… he’s carrying twins…” she murmured sadly. “I doubt they’ll both survive though…” Botan gasped. “Oh no…” “Poor Kurama…” Keiko breathed, turning to Yusuke instantly. Hiei felt his rage building and only reminding himself over and over he was holding his currently very fragile lover was he able to stop himself from burning the whole temple to the ground to vent it off. Fury was still welling up though and he could feel the dragon on his arm writhing to try and get free. He gently put Kurama fully down on the futon. “Look after him, detective,” he said before quickly flitting out into the forest where he could properly rage and let out the violent energy that made him want to destroy everything he saw. Yusuke nodded even though Hiei was already long gone and sighed heavily. “Where’s that shrimp going?” Kuwabara demanded. “He can’t just leave Kurama like this! I thought that twerp cared for him!” “He does. He’s just so angry right now I don’t think he trusts himself to keep control,” Yusuke explained tiredly. He could understand Hiei a lot better now that he’d become a demon himself. “In a minute you’ll probably feel-” He didn’t bother to finish as he felt the sudden burst of energy from the forest. “Yusuke’s right, Kazuma. Let Hiei vent for a little while,” Shizuru reasoned. “He’ll come back. He always does.” Kuwabara grumbled but nodded in agreement. It wasn’t like he really wanted to face Hiei when he was that angry anyway. “W-wait… I’m confused…” Keiko said still holding onto Yusuke’s jacket from when she’d turned to him for comfort. “How can Kurama even be pregnant? I mean, I know demons are different and all but… he’s still a man…” Botan nodded. “Yes, Keiko, but Yoko Kurama was a silver kitsune. And silver kitsune are different from most demons. When Kurama regained his full demon abilities he must have regained that as well,” she said. “Alright, just what is ‘different’ about fox-boy?” Shizuru asked. “Silver kitsune are born hermaphrodites,” Botan answered for her. She was the most knowledgeable about demons there aside from Yukina and her isolation during her childhood would have kept her predominately in the dark about such little know details of another demon kind. “But it’s not like human hermaphrodites. Silver kitsune like Kurama are usually majority male however they retain their female reproductive organs. They ovulate very sporadically so it’s very hard to tell when or even how many children they could conceive at any given time. Also, they aren’t able to give birth like a female can. They can conceive and carry but they are still predominately male and their birth canal simply isn’t able to function properly. They always require a c-section. Though in this situation that’s probably what I’d have suggested anyway… even if he could have a natural birth I don’t think he’d be strong enough to go through it.” There were several moments of silence as what the reaper said sunk in. “Wow, you actually sounded like you knew what you were talking about there, Botan,” Yusuke said with a half hearted smile, trying to lighten the mood a bit. “Yusuke!” Botan exclaimed. “You know very well I’m not an idiot!” “That’s debatable, woman,” Hiei grunted as he came back inside the room, looking distinctly more tired but less angry then when he’d left. He took his previous place beside Kurama and gently stroked back his long red hair, not caring at the moment that he was the center of attention. He refused to be embarrassed about something they all already knew about anyway. He didn’t look up from Kurama as he addressed Yukina. “How far along is he?” he asked softly. “Almost five months,” Yukina answered, watching Hiei with sorrowful eyes. Hiei nodded a bit but didn’t say anything else. While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
