A/N: I'm on a bit of an updating spree today with all of my stories... which is a good thing since it's been a while since I've had a chance to work on them. Anyway, the plot thickens here and Jin loses his shit. Enjoy.
Yusuke was sitting behind his desk in his study pretending to actually do work when his door blew open and a frantic redhead burst through. The Toushin jumped some when Jin slammed his hands down on his desk. “Hey, Jin… what’s wrong?” he asked, noting the way the Shinobi’s eyes were wide and his body trembling with pent up energy.
“Ya hafta help me, Yusuke! Touya’s late!” Yusuke blinked some in confusion before his lips quirked up to one side. “Really? Well I guess I can go back to Ningenkai and get you a pregnancy test if you need one,” he said, leaning back in his chair. Jin scowled. “No tha’ kinda late, Yusuke!” he snapped. “Touya said he’d be back ina week an’ it’s been a week an’ a half. Touya’s neva late!” Realizing how genuinely upset his friend was, Yusuke decided to hold off on further jokes. “Alright, calm down, Jin. Just tell me what happened,” he said as he got up and walked around the desk to physically get the Wind Master into one of the chairs in the room. The last thing Yusuke really needed was half his office blown away by an unstable Shinobi. Jin sighed heavily and racked his hands through his vibrant hair. “Touya was sent ona mission. Nothin’ real hard or anythin’ but it was solo. Said he’d be back ina week. Bu’ he isn’ back an’ nobody knows wha’ happened ta him!” “Alright, where did they send him? We’ll just go and look for him,” Yusuke said as he poured his friend a shot of Makai Whiskey. Jin took the offered glass and downed it immediately. “Northern Gandura.” Yusuke frowned and turned to face Jin properly. “Why would they send him there?” “Cause it’s fulla ice flows an’ Touya’s a Masta wit’ ice!” Jin snapped in annoyance. “Why else would they send ‘im?” “Okay, okay! I get it,” Yusuke said to calm the redhead down. He didn’t like the sudden breeze that had filled his office just then. “So, we’ll go to Northern Gandura and go look for him. Easy.” Jin scowled. “Ya think I’d be ‘ere if it were tha’ easy, Yusuke?” he asked. “We’d freeze ta death up there ina minute. We’s gonna need someone tha’ can either keep tha cold offa us, like Touya could. Or keep us warm, like Hiei or sommone.” Yusuke frowned a bit and leaned back against the desk. “Well, Hiei’s off the charts as usual… Not even sure Mukuro knows where he is right now. I guess I could ask Kurama, he seems to be able to find Hiei pretty easy. At least… compared to everyone else…” Jin nearly jumped up. “We donna have time ta go lookin’ for ‘im. Jus’ find someone else wit fire powers!” “Jin, We need someone! You said it yourself. And it would be best if it was someone that we trusted. Who else would you suggest? Yukina? If we run into trouble she’ll be a sitting duck! Just calm down for a minute and let’s think,” Yusuke said although he had to admit strategy and planning wasn’t his strongest suit. That was more Kurama’s forte. “How about I send a message to Kurama to get him to find Hiei for us and we can get ready for the search while he’s doing that?” Yusuke suggested, knowing that Jin wasn’t one to sit idle and wait. It just wasn’t in his nature. Jin scowled darkly, his leg jiggling some. He already wanted to be going but he knew Yusuke was right. He’d just hoped that he’d have gotten lucky and someone else they could use to survive the cold of the Ice Region was at the very least in a known location. The waiting was going to kill him. Hell, the waiting was already killing him. “Jin, we’ll find him don’t worry,” Yusuke told his friend. Jin took a deep breath and nodded. “Righ’ bu’ we gotta hurry… I gotta bad feelin’ about this job from tha beginnin’…” he admitted, still bouncing his leg against the ground. Yusuke sighed some and nodded in understanding. “Right. Don’t worry, Jin. We’re on it. Why don’t you go and get cleaned up while I contact Mukuro and Kurama and find out if they’ve seen an antisocial fire demon?” he suggested. Jin frowned, not wanting to ‘clean up’ but he could recognize it for what it really was. An attempt at a distraction. So, Jin agreed and left though he knew he wouldn’t be distracted from his missing lover. When Touya hadn’t shown up a week from when he left Jin had pushed off his immediate panic by telling himself he might have misunderstood what Touya meant by a week. So he gave it another day. When he didn’t show up the second day Jin asked around a bit and tried not to worry. Perhaps Touya had ended up going further than he thought he would. The third day without a word from Touya, however, and Jin’s ability to rationalize away his panic had evaporated. He’d gone straight to the council and demanded information. All they told him was that they’d received no bad news. Jin scowled at the ground as he walked. That only meant that nobody was bragging about killing him yet. That really wasn’t anything helpful. That didn’t mean he was alright and didn’t need help. So, Jin went to the first place he could think of that might be able to help. And now he still had to wait. Jin somehow ended up outside on the roof of Yusuke’s castle. The air seemed unnaturally still, much like it’s master. Jin hated waiting. It was only his sense of self-preservation that prevented him from charging to Touya’s last known location and pulling apart every iceberg until the ice master was found. Out of the corner of his eye he could spot two runners taking off in opposite directions. Jin tried hard not to worry but he couldn’t help it. Especially when his mind replayed the last time Touya had been even slightly late. He was only a few hours later than he said he’d be so Jin hadn’t begun to worry about him yet. It was pouring out and both Jin and Touya preferred to be out of the rain so Jin had simply assumed Touya had found some cover to wait out the storm. When he caught sight of a slumped figure walking towards their home, Jin had immediately gone on the defensive. Luckily, he waited long enough before attacking to see that the rain had formed ice on the other demon’s shoulders. Touya had been sliced nearly in half from his left hip up to his right shoulder. The gash was pouring blood despite the energy Touya had used to try and stem the flow of it. He’d even frozen parts of his own body to slow the bleeding more. Jin had had to call in every healer he could think of to rush over to work on his lover and still it was a close scrape. Then once they’d patched up the wound the fever set in. Jin had been practically beside himself as he watched Touya sweat out whatever fluids they gave him and tossed and turned in bed. He listened to every delirious muttering and fevered dream to try and see if Touya was getting better or not. It took nearly a week before the fever broke and another several months for Touya to recover enough to move around freely. Jin honestly didn’t know if he could sit through something like that again. Even Touya being stabbed by Kurama in the Dark Tournament was nothing compared to that. Jin knew that the life of a shinobi was dangerous but that didn’t mean he had fully accepted it yet. Then again, Touya wasn’t just any other fellow shinobi. The two of them had been together long before they were both masters. Their relationship was common knowledge among almost all demons who cared to know things like that. “Hey Jin!” Yusuke called from a nearby castle wall. “Come inside and eat.” “I’m nah hungry, Yusuke!” Jin called back. Yusuke frowned and then jumped up onto the turret. “Well, you need to eat anyway. You’re not going to be able to do jack shit if you haven’t eaten in days,” he pointed out. “Beside, Touya’ll be on your ass if you don’t take care of yourself. You really want to start fighting with him the minute you find him?” Jin glanced up at the Toushin and sighed. “Yeah… I guess yer righ’,” he muttered as he got to his feet. He was really too worried to eat but he’d at least choke down something to satisfy his friend. Plus, he did have a point. Jin fully intended to kill whoever might have done anything to his lover and he’d need to be at full strength to do that. While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
