Scene 20 ------------- The Next Day


* Minoro follows Hiei into the clearing in front of the main cave. Having felt him coming, the rest of the pack is now gathered there waiting. Hiei stops and half glances over his shoulder toward Minoro. The subordinate bows aside and moves away. As Hiei turns his eyes back toward the others they can all feel his nervous apprehension. Sarista sighs quietly, stands, and starts toward him at almost the same time that River does. Sarista is about to speak up in correction when the younger female stops and looks up at her. Hiei watches them lock eyes a moment, then River drops her eyes and sits down. Sarista nods and continues over to face Hiei.


Sarista- Master,..

Hiei- ‘Ris, I acted like an..

Sarista- Alpha.


* The Koorime’s jaw tightens. Sarista remains relaxed.


Sarista- One that we all still respect, Hiei.

D’Tara- We understand what you’re feeling because of the impending battle.


* Hiei darts his gaze over his pack again. His females, subordinates, and his children. Then he reaches up and quickly pulls Sarista’s mouth down to begin kissing her desperately. The Fire demoness sinks willingly to her knees to make her submission to him very clear. Hiei moans and works back to meet her rubied eyes.


Hiei- I.. ap-..


* Sarista shakes her head as she brings a hand up to touch his chest.


Sarista- None is needed.. We want to be there.. by your side.


* Hiei shakes his head adamantly.


Hiei- No. I won’t allow it.


* Lily and Celestia approach a little closer.


Lily- We want you to know..

Celestia- That we support you.


* Hiei nods. When he holds a hand out they move to embrace him.


Hiei- I know now that you do.. While I assure you that I’ll return victorious, I don’t want to take any chances.. This b------ already has my other two females.

Celestia- Understood.

Lily- We’ll stay here so you won’t be distracted.


* Hiei nods.


Hiei- Believe me, you won’t miss his final moments.


* Hiei smirks up at the taller females. He then meets Sarista’s eyes again.


Hiei- I had to return here before I go. My jagan has already alerted me that he’s growing closer.

Sarista- We’ll be here when you return to celebrate.


* Hiei nods.


Hiei- We’ll have a few things to discuss, Woman.


* Sarista smiles then watches Hiei look toward River. He takes a deep, settling breath, then makes his way over to the female carbon copy of himself.


Hiei- River.


* River slowly looks up at him, making the aqua colored highlights of her hair twinkle momentarily. He sees that her eyes are also shimmering, but with unshed tears of worry. Hiei reaches down and lifts her from the ground. River hesitantly works her arms around his neck and hides her face.


Hiei- I’m going to be okay, Girlie.


* River nods.


River- Hn.. Y-you’re.. much stronger.. B-but I’ll.. miss you,.. sir.


* Hiei scowls briefly.


Hiei- Hey, listen to me, Spark.


* He works her back some so he can look at her, but she keeps her eyes lowered.


Hiei- Look at me.


* River obeys timidly.


River- Auntie Sarista has.. talked with me.. I promise, I’ll learn my place so you won’t be angry at me..

Hiei- River,.. someday.. I’ll have to be more.. But for now, I’m still your Daddy.. I want to stay just your Daddy.. for as long as I can.. Do you understand me?


* River glances toward Sarista.


Hiei- I need to know that you understand this, River.

River- Someday.. I’ll be more, too..


* Hiei places a hand over her mouth gently. When she shifts her gaze back up at him he shakes his head.


Hiei- No, River. I want you to learn from your Aunt Sarista.. I want you to respect her as your other Aunts do. I won’t allow you to fight with her.


* River’s eyes widen in a manner that clearly belies her young age. Hiei lowers his hand as she shakes her head.


River- Oh no, Daddy..! I would never do anything like that!


* Hiei chuckles. River surprises him when she leans forward to give him a quick, full on kiss then hugs his neck again. Hiei relaxes and returns her embrace. He senses the young Ninjini when Shironji’s son, Shiyuo, materializes in front of him.


Shiyuo- He’s arrived at the barrier, Master.


Hiei grunts then sets River back down.


Hiei- Go play now, Spark.


* River grins up at him with a look that truly shows her heritage.


River- Go fry that slob, Daddy. I know you can do it.

Hiei- Hn. You just be sure that you stay right here, Little Girl. I’ll make him blow up well enough so that all of you’ll be able to see it from here.


* The Koorime turns and scans the horizon just beyond the canyon’s rift. A very tall okunenju can be clearly seen from this vantage point. He motions toward it.


Hiei- Just keep your eyes on that okunenju there.


* His whole pack looks toward the plant. Hiei turns and sets his eyes next on Trinka. The muted female notices his attentions and looks up as he approaches her. She tries not to shy away too much when he reaches out to stroke her head.


Hiei- I’ll make it up to you, Trinnie. I never intended to hurt you.

(#) Trinka- I deserved..

Hiei- No, you don’t. I was the stubborn jacka--.. You only did what you had to.. We’ll discuss this later. I have a lizard to go roast.


* Trinka nods. She watches Hiei look down at her tiny daughter. Hiei leans, hesitates a moment, then places a quick kiss on Trivalia’s forehead before blurring away.
