Disclaimer: I do not own YuYu Hakusho, nor any of the characters from it. I do not make any money from the writing of this story. |
Disclaimer: Yu Yu Hakusho belongs to Togashi-san and whatever companies he works with or for. The show, the manga and any of its characters do not belong to me, I am merely borrowing them for the pleasure of creating a fanfiction. Please do not sue, I am poor. Warning: No actual graphic sex yet but may have that in the future, and if m/m pairings aren't already implied or shown they may eventually be shown. Will any of this be graphic? I don't know yet, but it's possible. As with all my fanfiction writings, I consider it alternate universe or at least non-cannon. Why? Because that's what I tend toward writing. Have I missed anything? Oh yes, this first part is more or less PG, though there are vague hints that sexual acts do occur. Eventually the story may get more graphic, if this bothers you or if you are not of age to read such materials, I would please ask that you don't read it then. Constructive feedback is always welcomed and flamers I will throw to the tender mercies of my mother's relatives. If you don't think that's a warning, I feel sorry for you. Author: Shadowfox13 aka Carol D. (Notes: this chapter isn't fully finished but I've been cleaning up my older fan fictions. Please bear with me) Chapter 3 Shizuru had not heard from her brother for some time and while she knew that school could get busy, he was usually rather good about checking in with her. 'That moron,' she thought. Wait until she got her hands on him. She would give him the beating of his life for worrying her. She called his school and found that he had not been there for a good three weeks. She made her way to Genkai’s temple, hoping that he was there, and knocked on the door. Yukina answered and smiled upon seeing Shizuru. “Shizuru-san, how lovely to see you!” She exclaimed and then looked around “But where is Kazuma-san? Usually he comes with you when you visit.” Shizuru breathed deeply before speaking, “That is what I came to see you about. He didn't call home, so I called his school and they said he hasn’t been in class or the dorms for three weeks now. I was hoping that maybe he’d be here.” She shook her head, “I have a really bad feeling about this.” Yukina was about to speak when Yusuke, Keiko and Kurama came trooping up. A short time later Hiei, Jin, Touya, Suzuka, Shishiwakamaru, Ringku and Chu showed up. Lastly, Botan and Koenma made an appearance. Shizuru blinked as she lit her cigarette. Yusuke spoke up, “Ok, what’s going on? He looked at the entourage from the Makai, were you called here too?” He asked. He glared at Koenma, “This had better be – hey, we are all here except Kuwabara! What the freaking hell is going on!” Keiko elbowed him “Watch it!” She hissed. Koenma just chuckled, “Well, it’s good to see you haven’t changed much Yusuke.” He commented. “Actually I only called you guys but apparently word is getting around. It is about Kuwabara actually. I have been given permission to reactivate my spirit detectives and add to them, so I hereby reactivate you.” He looked at the demons that came, “and I would like to recruit your help as well, if you do not mind my asking.” He said. “My father is rather upset because of some events that have recently taken place.” Yukina looked up at Koenma, “What events and what do they have to do with Kazuma-san?” She asked in alarm. Koenma fidgeted as all eyes went his way, “Ahh, well yes, the events that recently took place is that Kuwabera has been kidnapped by an unknown demon and no one actually knew this till yesterday actually.” He continued to fidget under the stares. “The reason my father is mad is because my office messed up and didn’t detect this sooner. You see the problem is…even on the tapes the demon is invisible, I’ve looked and looked and each time all I see is Kuwabera falling unconscious and then floating in air and through a sudden portal.” He coughed. “Normally the spell casting would have alerted us but at the time we were attending to an immediate emergency that had just occurred about five minutes before his abduction.” Kurama looked at the god, “That kind of coincidence is a bit suspicious, don’t you think?” Koenma scowled, “I know! What’s worse is the thief got away with a dangerous item called the orb of transference. In the wrong hands it could be lethal!” Yusuke and Hiei both scowled. Hiei gave a contemptuous snort, “Why is it, someone else always winds up cleaning the horrific mess your pathetic security always leave.” He derided. Koenma glared, “Hey! My security is not-“ He shook his head, “The point is both events happened within minutes of each other and both the item and Kuwabara need to be located and retrieved.” Yusuke continued to glare. “You mean you don’t even know where they are? And just how are we supposed to locate-" A beep sounded and Botan pulled out a device that looked like a cell phone except the fact that it projected a hologram. “Koenma, sir, we briefly detected a portal jump but it was too fast, we were unable to get lock on location or projected coordinates.” An oni reported. The three detectives snickered as Koenma glared, “Well, keep working on it and find me something solid!” He shouted. Koenma looked back at the group, “As you can see, my office isn’t doing as well as I’d like but they are doing their best. I’ve had to go to my father on this because I have never come across such fast and strange portal signals before let alone have the capability to track it expertly. Apparently, some files on Kuwabara’s past lives have also gone missing for several weeks and whoever took it managed to do so right under my father’s nose. Needless to say he is quite infuriated.” He tersely faced the group. “I’m not sure what is going on but we need to resolve this quickly.” He shivered as the thoughts of possible consequences raced through his mind. “Or my father might decide to do something drastic.” He mumbled disconsolately. Koenma wondered why Kuwabara of all people? What importance could he have to anyone except the people close to him? He looked back at the group. “I know officially you guys were disbanded as a group but as of right now, I am reenlisting you.” He informed them once again without realizing he was repeating himself. Touya cocked his head thoughtfully, “Could he have been someone important in one of his past lives?” He asked curiously. Everyone looked curiously at Koenma as he shook his head. “I don’t think so but without the missing files I really don’t know, I honestly don't think so but I cannot be sure without the files. You see, rekai has so many souls coming and going that without some kind of record, keeping track would be almost impossible. While I don't have a bad memory, I don't know a lot about the details of a person's past life without some kind of reference to go back to. Files on past lives are usually stored in the karmic archives. Father has one of his agents digging up the backup copies in one of his hidden storages.” He focused on the demons who were there, “by the way, what brings you here” he questioned. The demons looked at each other in unspoken communication before Touya answered, “We came because one of our contacts further into the makai informed us that a human’s ki was briefly detected but then it mysteriously disappeared as quickly as it had appeared. He handed Kurama a disk with the information and approximate coordinates. Koenma brightened, “Thank you, every little bit helps,” he said while a few others glared at him. Yukina said nothing, quietly taking in all that was happening. Only Hiei seemed to notice her silence and he wondered what was going through her mind, unease passing through him. Yukina was a kind gentle presence but Hiei also knew the will of steel hidden underneath that kindness and gentleness, especially when it came to those she loved and cared for. Yet she said nothing, her eyes down turned, face otherwise blank as if in deep thought. Finally she looked up. "I will be going." She stated. Everyone, including Heie, stared not knowing what to say to that. Botan shook her head, "But Yukina, it's going to be dangerous. Are you sure you want to go?" Yukina only looked down, her face blank. Heie spoke up, "My sister is of the Makai, and she knows the dangers. If she wishes to go, that is her choice." He glared at everyone around him, daring them to make any kind of protest or comment. Didn't they see how much that loud-mouthed human meant to her? Strangely enough, none of the other denizens of the Makai had said anything. Then again each of them already knew about survival in the Makai and wisely kept silent. Koenma nodded. "Fine, if we can just take a look at the disk you have Kurama, perhaps we shall have an inkling of where to begin our search."
