Long lashes fluttered, casting shadows against sleep flushed cheeks. Slowly the dark fringe parted, revealing cloudy sienna orbs.
She blinked.
The waking woman found herself staring up at a waterfall of midnight blue silk, embroidered with white and silver flower blossoms. The material was secured in the center of the ceiling and she allowed her eyes to follow the flow of the folds down until her eyes met the surface she was laying on. Her eyes widened at finding a sea of black silk. Her hand twitched and hesitantly she spread her fingers to test with touch what her eyes told her was real.
Keiko Yukimura was no longer at work.
“You’re awake,” a quiet voice spoke from the shadows beyond the huge bed she found herself lying in. Keiko sat up abruptly, searching for the source; only to realize something important was missing- her clothes. She gasped and pulled the slippery material tightly to her chest, sinking defensively back against the plush pillows that lined the head board at her back.
A soft chuckle met her actions, and she felt herself bristle at the purely male amusement that was aimed at her discomfort. Her eyes once again sought the source, this time flaring with her beginning ire. She gave another gasp when the man materialized at the side of the bed, closer that she had imagined him to be. Her jaw nearly dropped when the pale man began to crawl onto the bed. She tried to shrink farther into the pillows, clutching the dark material beneath her chin as he drew closer, closer.
Moving slowly so as to not startle her, one hand, the color of palest moonlight reached out towards her. When she didn’t move his slender fingers stroked the velvety skin of her cheek.
Oh no. The confusion and terror that raced through her unguarded brown eyes wouldn’t do. Not at all.
“Do not be afraid of me, little lamb. I would never allow you to come to harm.”
His expression remained open and curious as he explored her face with his fingers. His finger traced the curve of her jaw, while his thumb brushed softly against the luscious pink petals of her lips. Her eyes stared up at him; still confused, still afraid- but she did not protest. He allowed his gaze to linger on her lips before sliding up to meet her own. His hand began a caressing descent from her jaw down until his fingers curled around the delicate column of her throat. This time his thumb brushed against her madly racing pulse.
Logic tried to intrude. ‘He kidnapped me! For all I know he could be planning to kill me!’
“Beautiful.” His voice caressed her body, even as his hands caressed her slender neck. “And so very innocent. Tell me, pure one, why has no one knelt before your altar?” his voice was a seductive whisper of breath across her lips. “Been allowed to worship at your feet?” His lips brushed lightly against hers as he spoke. “Drank of your essence, while the heaven’s trembled at your cries?”
Keiko swallowed hard, and breathing became difficult; panic and desire mingling in an overwhelming aphrodisiac. The young woman shuddered at the intensity of his stare, and against all reason she felt her respond to his words, his touch. She felt herself growing wet, becoming ready at the sound of his low voice.
‘This isn’t right! How can I feel like this for someone who kidnapped me!?’ she wondered as she stared up at him.
He drew his head back slightly to allow her to see the hunger he felt, feel the heat of the desire he felt.
All for her.
Her pupils slowly dilated, and her tongue darted out to moisten dry lips. Gleaming gold hungrily followed the path and she felt the blood rush through her body, causing a rosy glow to spread beneath her golden flesh. She could feel the material of the sheets she covered herself with catch on her hardening nipples. A burning pressure began to build in the pit of her stomach; her breasts grew full and heavy.
“No answer, little lamb?” His lips tilted up in a satisfied smile. But suddenly he froze.
He frowned and drew back; cocking his head as though listening to something no one else could hear.
*Stop that!*
/Why? I crave her flesh, her soul. Why should I stop what she doesn’t resist?/
*Because she’s confused and recovering. Now back off before I take control of you.*
When he looked back down at her a second later he regretfully backed away.
“We will finish this another time, my innocence.”
With that his weight disappeared from the bed, and he slipped back into the shadows. A thin stream of light appeared when he opened the door, pouring in from the hallway. Then the door closed behind him and she was left alone, her eyes once more trying to adjust to the dimness.
‘How can I feel like this?’ she again wondered weakly.
Keiko raised a hand and pressed it against her chest, hoping to still her wildly beating heart. Slowly she got her body under control, although she felt restless and embarrassed by her response. Somewhere in the back of her head she felt a little voice inside of her urging her to relax, to get some sleep. She was so confused.
She was so tired…
~~~~~~
“Any luck so far?”
“Nothing Yusuke,” Kurama answered the tiredly. Yusuke had asked him this at least twice a day since the whole mission had started four days ago. “Hiei has been unable to get a clear reading of the energy at the site. It doesn’t seem to matter how far away he is when he scans with the Jagan, he cannot read it.”
‘It causes too much pain,’ Kurama admitted silently to himself. He would never tell the other two why Hiei was unable to zero in on the energy though. That would give them a reason to tease Hiei about something that wasn’t his fault. And teasing Hiei about something he felt he had failed at would be one of the last things the two would ever do.
/If we ever need a way to kill them off though, that would be one way of accomplishing it./
*Youko! Stop that! We are not going to kill off my friends.*
“What about you guys? Have you found anything?” he asked to keep the conversation flowing.
/I’m not planning on it!/ the silver kitsune spirit retorted defensively. /I’m just saying, if the situation ever arose, then that would be a way to accomplish it./
*Behave!* the human half of the fox, also known as Shuichi, commanded sternly.
/Whatever./
“Nope. We got nothing. How the hell are we supposed to figure out who the hell is stealing demon DNA? It’s not exactly something that would come up in a conversation, ya know,” Yusuke muttered in annoyance. He pulled himself straight up and is voice took up a mock-serious tone, “ ‘I was at the market the other day and while I was there I picked up some demon cell samples to further my illegal genetic experiments.’ Psh! Come on! What does that runt expect us to do?” he rolled his eyes, abandoning the proper pose in favor of his customary slouch.
Kurama smiled at the truthful irony in his words. Beside them Kuwabara burst into deep guffaws, entertained by Yusuke’s ‘impersonation’ skills.
“Well have you considered asking Keiko for help? I understood that she was going to get her degree in Forensic Sciences? Unless something has changed she should be able to give you a good idea of where to start,” Kurama pointed out helpfully.
“Huh? How do you know that?” a black eyebrow winged up in surprise.
“We both had to have a biology course for our majors, Yusuke. Since I’ve had it before, I helped her study for that class. Although I haven’t seen her much since then. Now I feel bad for not taking the time to keep in better contact.”
“Someone else should feel just as bad for not keeping in touch,” Kuwabara pointed out with a meaningful look at Yusuke.
“Shut up! It’s none of your business!”
“What’s this?” Kurama asked in some confusion.
“Oh Yusuke broke up with Keiko, and he hasn’t talked to her since then. And he doesn‘t want to hear about how he should talk to her about anything cuz he’s too embarrassed from wussing out on her!” Kuwabara informed the fox who turned to regard his ‘leader’.
“Is that true Yusuke?” Kurama turned startled green eyes on his leader. “You’re not with Keiko anymore? She didn’t say anything about it when we were in class together. Although, perhaps the subject was too uncomfortable for her, poor girl.”
Yusuke cringed under the dual stares of disapproval. “Hey! You guys act like I drop kicked her to the curb! I was doing what was best for her! With me taking on more responsibility in the Makai there was no way I’d be able to visit her very often, or take time for her like she wanted. It was better to let her find someone else who could give her all that.”
“Has she found someone else?” Kurama asked Kuwabara, knowing the carrot haired young man was better at keeping tabs on the females of the group.
“Nope. In fact she’s gotten more withdrawn since the breakup. I dunno, it’s like something changed. Have you noticed that sometimes she gets really upset? Over weird things too! Like one day I saw her at the campus store; cuz I needed a new calculator for my trig course; and we were talking like normal when she got this weird look on her face and bolted. I don’t even remember what I said but she barely said goodbye before she was out the door.”
“I have noticed that a couple of times while we were studying together, I never really thought anything about it,” Kurama admitted, moving to fall in step with Kuwabara as they began to stroll down the sidewalk, continuing their discussion of their mutual friend. They were walking in the direction of the small restaurant Keiko worked in while she attended the university. The two redheads didn’t notice when they started leaving their fearless leader behind.
“Hey I’m still here you guys!”
~~~~~~
She passed her hands over the object, brows drawn together in concentration. Closer… she was getting so close…Suddenly light flared from the object and she was thrown into a violent world of clashing swords, and screams.
Blood splattered against her cheek as she decapitated an ancient samurai warrior. Another warrior in stylized wooden armor rode a horse with a smooth seemingly effortless skill. Unfortunately he was bearing down on her, spear leveled at her chest.
She didn’t have time to think.
Almost instinctively she reversed the direction of her swing, arcing the blade back to her right. When it was parallel with her chest she reached up with her other hand and twisted the blade, driving it back into the body of the warrior trying to slay her from behind. She ducked a bit, placing her shoulder beneath the blade so that she use her weight to wrench it free from the heavy armor. The horseman was almost upon her. She reared back, and using all her strength, flung her blade straight at him.
The rider struck it away with his own weapon, but already her bow was in hand, an arrow gracing the string by her cheek. It was too late, there would be no way he could dodge her arrow. Her lips curved the slightest bit, when she saw the knowledge bloom in his eyes-seconds before the matching wound bloomed in his throat…
She blinked at the harsh fluorescent lights that ran along the ceiling. Stars aligned in complex patterns- clustered into galaxies on the walls. Dark colors swirled slowly around the room. The floor was cool beneath her cheek; a thankfully simple tile. She braced a hand against the floor and pushed herself into a sitting position and raised her face to look at the ‘room’s?’ other occupant.
She fell into eyes of midnight blue.
“Well done,” a soft, melodious voice drifted to her ears. “Would you like to try again, or shall we take a small break?”
~~~~~~
Sunlight could be seen glinting off a thin blade of silver between the trees.
“I don’t understand it,” Hiei snarled, swiping at the offending tree trunk that had come to bare the brunt of his ire.
Dodge.
“What is it about it that makes it so painful for me?! Why can’t the Jagan read it?!”
Strike.
“What kind of trick is it?”
Flip.
He growled dangerously. “It doesn’t matter.”
Feint.
I will find another way to complete this mission.
Slash.
“I will find the one who wields such power.”
Hiei slammed his sword hilt deep into the tree.
“And I will destroy them!”
It erupted in a black flame.
Her breath caught in her throat when her eyes landed on the hair cascading around the man’s shoulders. He stopped moving when he heard her sharp intake of breath. He leaned back on his heals and regarded her through the wild red spikes that fell around his green eyes.
“We’ve been waiting for you to wake up. I’m sure you’re feeling very confused right now,” he smiled charmingly, “Do you mind if I get comfortable? I’m sure you have some questions you wish to ask.” Without waiting for her response he shifted his long lean legs around until he was sitting with his legs comfortably crossed. “Now!” he spoke brightly, “What would you like to know?”
Keiko gaped at him.
When she finally gathered her wits to speak her words almost tumbled over each other in her rush to get the answers he offered.
“Who are you? Where am I? What do you want with me? Where the hell are my clothes?!”
