The wind rushed across the bare earth, carrying the scent of salt water toward the two standing where the warehouse once was. The trees sighed and whispered, as if divulging secrets that no other species could hear.
Yusuke gripped the Key tightly, feeling the smooth texture of the green orb. "Hiei?"
The koorime glanced up at him. "What is it?"
"You’re aware that everything in this castle that we’re going to is probably going to try and kick our asses, right?"
Hiei scoffed. "Let them try."
Yusuke shrugged. "As long as we’re on the same page." He squatted, put the Key on the ground, and gave it a nudge with his hand, sending it rolling to the center of the clearing. With a ‘clink’, it suddenly halted, as if it had hit some sort of wall.
"Well, Detective, what are you waiting for? Your hesitation will do Kurama no good."
Yusuke glared in Hiei’s general direction. "I want him back just as much as you do, Hiei..." He slowly raised his right hand, then clasped his wrist with his left to steady his arm. Taking careful aim, he allowed the energy to build up in his index finger.
"SPIRIT GUN!" he shouted, and the bluish blast rushed toward the green orb. When it connected, the Key began to glow, then absorbed the energy completely.
"What the-" Yusuke took a step forward, only to be halted by Hiei’s voice.
"Wait."
There was a sound like rushing water, then the Key pulsed three times. A mist flowed from the orb, quickly covering the clearing, as well as the two standing nearby. A rush of power flowed over their skin, then the air cleared, revealing one huge difference in the landscape.
A gigantic castle loomed before them, imposing and impressive.
Yusuke stepped over to the Key, picked it up, and pocketed it. Looking up at the castle, he let out a low whistle. "You ready, Hiei?"
"Hn," was the only response that he received.
"Thought so." The teen rested his hand on the steel ring of the door. "Here goes nothing," he sighed, pulling the door wide.
------------
With a groan, Kurama reentered the world of consciousness. His head throbbed, and there was a stinging sensation on his temple where Kurai had touched him. For a while, he didn’t move, trying to wait out the pain.
When it ebbed just a bit, he attempted to sit up. The task was ridiculously easy; glancing at his hands, he realized why.
The chains were gone...
‘I have been... freed?’
One glance around the room told him that this was not so. He was still inside the castle, though by the looks of it, he was much higher up than he had been. A thin stream of sunlight entered the room through a high window.
Kurama began to examine the room in more detail, and found the accomodations to be suprisingly eloquent. An adjoining bathroom was to his left, and a table laden with food sat almost directly in front of him. The kitsune stood, then realized why his ers ers had seemingly vanished.
A chink from behind him led him to touch his neck, where an odd collar was fastened. He hadn’t even felt its weight until he touched it. A chain fastened the collar to one of the bedposts; this chain was long enough to give him full access to the room and bathroom.
Kurama eyed the bedpost thoughtfully. It was just wood, nothing more substantial than that...
He reached to the nape of his neck, on the verge of procuring his rose. Halfway there, however, he realized that the effort would be fruitless. ‘The collar locks my energy just as the chains did..’
With a resigned sigh, Kurama slowly made his way to the bathroom, still sore from his encounter. He took in the sight of the luxurious bath as well as the robe hanging from a hook beside the door.
‘Well, this is convenient. A little too convenient.’
Trying not to think of what his new surroundings could mean, he swiftly drew his bath.
When he slipped into the water, he was slightly alarmed when it turned red almost immediately. He calmed, however, when he realized that it was Kin’s blood that was being washed from his body.
The warmth of the water caused him to feel more secure than he had since he, Hiei, and Yusuke had gone after the prince in the warehouse...
His heart gave a painful tug. "Hiei... Yusuke..." He closed his eyes, trying to imagine that he was somewhere else-
-but unbidden, images of the morning and the previous night came flooding back.
...Kin’s heart, spraying blood all over the kitsune’s prone body...
...Yato’s merciless thrusts and feral grunts...
...The feeling of being completely and utterly...
‘Alone.’
Kurama blinked quickly, staving off any hint of tears that would betray his frustration and weakness, then commenced trying to scrub the scent and feel of violation from his skin.
------------
The door let out an echoing scream as it was opened, and Yusuke groaned. "Figures." Luckily, the chamber seemed to be blessedly empty. "Man. Look at this dump. Since when is a dungeon the first thing you see when you go into a castle? Where the huge entry hall? The red carpet? The-"
"Be quiet." Even though Hiei knew that Yusuke was just talking to ease his anxiety, a faint scent on the air significantly lowered his tolerance. "Can you smell that?"
"Smell what? Hiei?"
The koorime didn’t respond. The room wasn’t sufficiently lit; there were only four torches, so he let his nose guide him.
There was sweat... blood...
Semen...
And under it all, there was a faint aroma of roses...
Hiei bared his fangs, his eyes bleeding fully crimson. The smell was coming from the area near the shackles that lay on the floor. The scent was mere hours old. His fists clenched. "He was just here," he gritted out.
"What are you talking about, Hiei?" Yusuke stepped toward his companion and peered at the chains.
"They held Kurama here. They-" His eyes flashed dangerously. "I warned that Yato... I warned him not to touch him."
Yusuke stepped back, coming to a sudden understanding. "Damn it. We have to find him..." His eyes settled on a lump close to the chains. "What’s that?"
Hiei looked in the indicated direction. "A heart," he answered brusquely, then strode toward the adjacent door. "Come, Yusuke. He is here, and he is alive. The sooner we find him, the better." With another squeal of protesting hinges, Hiei disappeared.
Yusuke nodded at the koorime’s retreating back, but as he stepped toward the door, he couldn’t help thinking that this was just too easy. What were the chances that there would be no guard at the door? That the scent of Kurama would be so fresh that Hiei could follow it? That-
A clang of metal from the hall halted his train of thought.
‘Knew it was too good to be true...’
The teen dashed into the hallway, prepared to aid his friend in battle.

Whoo. Dreadfully short, I know. I am VERY VERY sorry... *bows profusely* ...but unexpected circumstances just kept popping up! This chapter was just sort of an interlude. In the next chapter, Kurai explains the terms of enslavement to his pet... Mmm, yummy... *drools*
