Chap 5 Saving the Mother
Yusuke wasn’t foolish he sensed Kurama’s presence so instead of going home he went to the park. When they were alone Kurama made himself known. “Greetings Yusuke, my name is Kurama I’d like to have a word with you if that’s alright.”
“Well you certainly are interesting, you seem to have some power on you but your aura seems to be human, but it’s different I’ve never seen an aura quite like yours.” Yusuke said, turning around to face Kurama.
“Indeed I am unique, and you have to understand I don’t want to fight you. I need the Forlorn Hope for something and after I use it I’ll gladly surrender it to you.” Kurama said.
“Really and what do you need it for if you don’t mind me asking?”
“I need it to save my mother’s life.” Kurama admitted.
“Ok let’s talk.”

Meanwhile…
Kuwabara was in a foul mood, he had lost the first treasure to Urameshi which means he was already one behind. “Damn that Urameshi well he won’t beat me I’ll find the next treasure for sure.” Kuwabara traveled the streets using his spirit awareness to try and locate the next demon, Keiko however was tired and went home to rest.
“I’ll win, I’ll show Urameshi who’s in charge.” Kuwabara walked all over town.

Back with Kurama and Yusuke
“So this mirror thing can grant any wish someone wants at the cost of their life, except on the full moon the mirror’s power is complete and can grant any wish without cost. I can see why the thing was sealed away.” Yusuke said, and Kurama nodded.
“My mother is very sick, human doctors can’t save her and my herbal remedies are not affective, the mirror is my one last hope.”
“I see well if that’s what you want to do I’ll back you up Kurama, but tell me do you plan to sacrifice your life in order to save your mother, even if you surrender the mirror after you use its power on the full moon Spirit World may take punishment upon you.”
“It’s fine as long as my mother is safe I’ll take any punishment.” Yusuke grinned at Kurama’s words.
“I like you, don’t worry I got your back Kurama.” Yusuke said, giving him a thumbs up.
The two planned to meet the next day at the hospital.
It was just 3 days till the full moon.

The next day… 2 days till the full moon
Kurama and Yusuke walked to the hospital together. When they arrived a nurse spotted him. “Oh Shuichi there’s trouble, your mother has taken a turn for the worst. I’m sorry.” Both boys were shocked and Kurama made a run for it to see his mother. The doctors held him back though in the state she was in she couldn’t handle any excess stress.
“Please stop Shuichi you can’t go in!”
“Mother!” Kurama cried out.
“Spirit Lock!” Yusuke used his beads to bind Kurama, and cease his outburst. “I’m sorry Kurama but you realize what must be done now in order to save her, let’s go.” Kurama nodded and Yusuke released him from the beads.
The boys went to the roof and waited till night fall, the mirror still needed moonlight in order to act. “I guess it’s time, but it matters not so long as she survives.”
The mirror’s power began to let loose and that drew Kuwabara and Keiko. Botan explained the dangers of the object and Kuwabara was determined to get this treasure.
They ran to the hospital and up to the roof just as Kurama began to prepare, the mirror began to drain of Kurama of his spirit energy and his life force.
Kuwabara burst onto the roof and saw Kurama. “There you are you monster I won’t let you get your wish. Spirit Sword!” Kuwabara summoned his blade and began rushing at Kurama.
‘No I can’t defend myself I can’t…’ Suddenly a barrier came over Kurama.
“I have your back Kurama.” Yusuke said, his beads glowing.
“Urameshi what are you doing!?” Kuwabara growled.
“Stand down Kuwabara, I’m warning you.” Yusuke snapped, and his eyes made Kuwabara sweat.
“Your with this demon Urameshi!”
“Man your annoying I don’t have time for this!” Yusuke said, and turned his back to Kuwabara. “Hey mirror thing listen I’m gonna offer up my spirit energy and my life energy, hell even my soul but Kurama lives, he deserves to see his mother alive and happy and if he dies she’ll cry!” Yusuke put his hand on the mirror shocking everyone.
“You fool this is my mission, I should pay the price!” Kurama shouted, and Yusuke turned his head and had a big smile on his face.
“I told ya I got your back Kurama!”
“Yusuke!” Botan and Keiko screamed as the wish was enacted, and both boys fell to the ground. Yusuke’s barrier vanished and Kuwabara fell back.
Kurama groaned as he slowly stood up. “You fool you saved me, my mother!” Kurama got up and ran to see her.
After a few seconds Yusuke coughed and sat up as well. “Wow I’m alive.”
“A soul such as yours was too pure to take. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a soul so pure, a soul willing to die for his friends, with no ill intentions at all.” A voice came from the mirror. “You actions were so noble I spared both of your lives.”
“Wait hold on Kurama was willing to die for his mother, how come his soul wasn’t pure enough huh?”
“The one called Kurama’s actions were gripped by guilt, deep in his heart he felt he was responsible for his mother’s illness by sacrificing his own life he thought he could undo the damage he caused.” The voice from the mirror spoke. “You can tell him her illness was not his doing.” The light vanished and the mirror grew silent.
Yusuke picked up the mirror. “Guess it’s over now.” He smiled and knew Kurama was hugging his mother now and that she’d lead a long and healthy life.
Kuwabara didn’t understand a thing that was going on, but he understood one thing Yusuke had gotten another treasure and he had failed.

Preview
Yusuke spoke up for Kurama and Koenma plans to give him a slap on the wrist. Kuwabara is furious and can’t believe it, but he seeks to get the last treasure and find another way to become leader.
Hiei has found himself unable to keep his eyes of Yusuke. The two meet and a clash of ideals is met.
“Tell me Hiei why do you want these treasures so bad, you seem plenty powerful on your own, an orb that can steal souls, a mirror that can grant wishes at the cost of a soul, and a sword that makes demons. Each item alone is wild and dangerous but have them together and use them towards one goal and anything is possible. So what is your goal Hiei?” Yusuke asks.
