Yusuke
paced back and forth in the small room he hadn’t left in two days. He was continuously kicking himself for how
messed his little ‘get away’ with Keiko had turned out. After three seemingly
relaxing days together Yusuke suddenly felt restless when Keiko went to relax
in the bathtub with a book, so left the hotel room, telling Keiko that he would
be back later. After finding the hotel’s gym, ‘later’ turned out to be three
o’clock in the morning, the endorphin rush Yusuke had worked up was killed the
moment he returned to his hotel room to an enraged Keiko waiting up for him. After
explaining that this was his vacation too and that there was no reason for her
to be so upset with him leaving if all she was planning to do was sleep a fight
that the whole hotel had no doubt heard, started between them. Yusuke had finally had enough; he stormed out
of the room they shared and out of his wife’s life forever. After returning to their apartment and packing
up everything he could rightly call his own into his car he made his way to the
only place he could think of, Genkai’s temple.
By the time
he had reached the temple, it was the middle of the morning and the young demon
was exhausted both mentally and physically.
He took a few moments to spill his guts, and a few tears, to Genkai, who seemed abnormally tolerant to the hysterics she
usually found repulsively childish, her former pupil all but collapsed onto his
usual sleeping mat laid out in his usual room.
Two days later, he was still there, pacing the confines of the small
room.
As
engrossed in his thoughts that he was, the young demon hadn’t heard the soft
knocks at his door. Nor did he notice
the door sliding open and the slender figure of Kurama
slipping silently in. The redheaded fox
leaned against the wall silently, waiting for his friend to notice his presence. When it became apparent that the young demon
wasn’t going to do so, Kurama called out to him
softly.
Jumping
half out of his skin, Yusuke spun around to face his friend. “Don’t you know how to knock?” He grouched giving Kurama
his back and sitting on the futon.
“I did
knock, Yusuke.” Kurama
replied softly, not at all offended by his friend’s grumpiness. “You simply didn’t hear me.”
“Sorry.” Yusuke grunted.
“Don’t
be. I’d be upset as well if I was in
your position.”
“Yea well,
I hope you never have to be in this position.”
Yusuke replied finally spinning around to face his friend.
“As do I.” Kurama replied leaving his spot on the wall to join Yusuke
on his futon. “However, I may find
myself in a similar situation very soon.”
“How come?” Yusuke
asked, pulling himself out of his doldrums as curiosity and worry for his
friend set in. “Wazza
matter with Hiei?”
“Two
reasons. First and foremost, Kuwabara
asked me to break the news of Yukina’s pregnancy to
him.”
“Good call
on his part.” Yusuke smirked. “Hiei is going to
be less inclined to kill you. Although
you may have to get Mukuro’s support before breaking
the news; so that Hiei
doesn’t come shove his sword up Kuwa’s ass.”
“That may
be easier said then done.” Kurama muttered under his breath.
“How come? Ol’ Rizen said you could trust Mukuro and she seemed to like you well enough. . .”
“Well,
Yusuke, Mukuro sent me an Orb of Words a few days
after you spent the night right after I returned from my vacation. Apparently, Hiei’s
and my recreation may have . . . sparked
something.”
“She’s not
jealous is she? Oh my god! Mukuro has the hots for Hiei!” For the first time in a long while, Yusuke
burst out laughing.
“That is
hardly the case.” Kurama
huffed. “I was referring to Hiei’s odd behavior after I left.”
“Aww, Hiei misses his foxy.”
“Mukuro thinks Hiei may be
pregnant.”
For a split
second Yusuke was startled into speechlessness.
Moments later he burst out laughing.
“That’s
rich.” Yusuke howled. “Okay, who put you up to that one? Kuwa or Ba-san?”
“I’m being
quite serious, Yusuke.” Kurama, who had been looking at the floor, slanted his gaze
over to Yusuke’s beet red face. “Male
demons are quite capable of conceiving, although it is far easier for females
to become impregnated as their bodies are made to produce children. Male demons usually need to be mated to allow
their dormant childbearing organs to become active. Also, there are more risks involved with male
pregnancies.”
“No one
ever told me that, weird.” Yusuke looked
down at his well muscled abdomen.
“Wonder if my body’s capable of doing that. . .”
“It’s hard
to say.” Kurama
answered thoughtfully. “Its true that
you are a demon, however, your body started out as a human male. So you may not have grown the extra organs
needed to conceive and carry children.
The same goes for my body.”
“So, is Hiei possibly being pregnant a good thing?”
“Yes and
no,” Kurama answered solemnly. “I do want children with Hiei
one day, but not this quickly. He is
content with his life as a fledgling heir to Mukuro’s
realm as am I content with living out the remainder of my human life. I would like to have children one day from
this body, but it’s not an urgent matter, a healthy male’s body can produce
complete and viable sperm up until the day he dies.”
“Yea but, eww.” Yusuke explained with a shudder.
“Wonderfully
put.” Kurama
mumbled. “I’m afraid that Hiei may not want this child or children as it may very
well be.”
Yusuke
didn’t know how to reply to his friend whispered statement. After a moment he placed a supportive hand on
Kurama’s shoulder offering a tiny bit of comfort.
“Why dwell
on the ‘what ifs’?” Kurama
perked suddenly. “I do seriously doubt
that Hiei is pregnant, his untrusting nature makes it
hard enough to accept love as it is.”
Yusuke
nodded. “He doubts himself too much and
over looks just how much you care for him.”
“You are
quite perceptive.” Kurama
smiled. “I was wondering if you wanted
to come with me to the Makai. I thought, considering the circumstances,
getting away from everything for a few days might do you some good. That and I think I am in sore need of someone
who is strong enough to save my hide incase of a blowup . . . or a dragon.”
“I’d love
to. You have no idea how much I need
this.”
Do you need
to pack?” Kurama
asked looking about the oddly sparkling clean room. Usually, no matter what his age, when Yusuke
was given a room to himself it usually ended up messy.
“No,” Yusuke answered
with a small sheepish smile. “But I do
need a shower, and a change of clothes.
Do you mind waiting? I won’t take
long.”
“I don’t
mind at all, Yusuke.” Kurama smiled. With
his sharp nose, the fox couldn’t help but notice the way Yusuke scent filled
the room. It wasn’t exactly unpleasant,
just a bit over powering to a sensitive nose.
“Take all the time you need.”
.~*~.
Kurama walked back to the small inn that he and Yusuke had
decided to stay at for the few days they were going to stay in the Makai. It was odd
being within Muuro’s realm and not staying in a room
with his bad tempered little fire demon, he was, for the moment, no longer
welcome within his lover’s sight. The
moment he walked into the room with his Hiei the fox knew
with out a doubt that the moody demon was not pregnant. Apparently he hadn’t let any one get
physically close enough to him since Kurama left;
even when he was summoned to Mukuro’s presence he
ignored her and her messengers.
“Hiei, what’s the
matter?” He had asked softly coming up
beside demonic lover. When no answer
came Kurama continued on his own, as he usually
did. “This might amuse you; Mukuro took your moodiness as pregnancy mood swings. However, that is most defiantly not the
case.”
“I would have told you if I
was.” Hiei
muttered softly, glancing over his shoulder at his lover. “If I had to suffer being pregnant, you,
being the sire, would have to suffer right along with me.”
Surprised at Hiei’s
calm acceptance of the thought of being pregnant, Kurama
was momentarily stunned into silence. “I
thought you would be mad at Mukuro or I for thinking
you were pregnant.”
“Why would I be?” Hiei shrugged,
further surprising his fox. “It always
has a possibility of occurring from our coupling. Is that the only reason you came?”
“Aside from basking in the glow of
your presence,” Kurama joked softly.
Hiei eyed
him warily, not in the mood for banter.
“Actually,” Kurama
murmured softly, reaching out to take his lover into his slender arms. “I did have one more reason coming to visit.”
“And what would that be?”
Kurama
took a deep breath gathered his courage and finally spit it out.
“You’re going to be an uncle soon.”
“What?” Hiei hissed his
voice low and deadly, a tone he usually reserved for his adversaries.
:Oh
no: Kurama
groaned silently to himself while at the same time forcing himself to keep his
tone light and cheerful. “Yukina is going to be a mother soon isn’t that wonderful.”
“No!” Hiei snarled. The very thought of that redheaded buffoon
touching his beloved sister made Hiei’s skin
crawl. “I’m going to kill him.”
“It does take two participants to
create a baby, Hiei.”
Kurama reasoned calmly.
“Get out.” Hiei growled.
“Hiei,”
“GET OUT!”
Kurama
jumped back from his enraged lover, and sighed.
He obeyed the small demon’s request silently retreating from his
personal space. Upon reaching the door,
however, he turned back one last time.
“Hiei,
promise me you won’t try to kill or maim Kuwabara.’
“He got my sister pregnant.” Hiei snapped,
reining in his anger as much as possible.
“Yes, and she is overjoyed.” Kurama answered,
turning away and opening the door. “Why
can’t you just be happy for her?”
Kurama
wanted to say more, but if Hiei’s trembling and
growing aura was anything to go by, he knew he had better let his lover be for
the time being. As he stepped out, the
room behind him suddenly went dark followed by a loud crash. Hiei had thrown his
lamp out the window and promptly disappeared through it. Mukuro was at Kurama’s side in moments, she sniffed Hiei’s
scent coming to the same conclusion that Kurama had
about her heir being pregnant.
“What happened?”
“Yukina’s
pregnant.”
“And you just had to tell him?”
“It was better then the alternative.”
Mukuro
shook her head in annoyance and disbelief.
“Idiots, the lot of you.” she muttered
storming off.
“Yea ‘at’s
Kurama!” A
loud voice boomed, jolting Kurama out of his
thoughts. “An’ I dunno
why he’s ignorin’ us.”
Kurama turned to find none other then Chu and Rinku
staring curiously after him.
“Sorry,” Kurama apologized, giving his friends a sheepish smile that
did not quite meet his eyes. “I’ve had a
rather rough night.”
“Well, come
drink it off with me!” Chu proposed, slinging his heavily muscled arm
around Kurama’s slender shoulder.
“I would
but,” Kurama paused, looking up to Chu with a playful glint to his emerald
eyes. “I’m on my way to meet up with
Yusuke,”
“No foolin?” Chu explained jolting Kurama
deeper into his one armed hug. “What are
ya waitin’ for, mate? Lead the way.”
This is
bound to cheer Yusuke up. Kurama thought to himself as he led Chu and Rinku into
the inn.
“What
brings you here anyways, Kurama?” Rinku
asked, following directly behind the fox as he led in the door and toward the
steps.
“I needed
to speak with Hiei over family matters.” Kurama answered,
after a slight pause to choose the correct wording. Then after a moment’s
thought he looked over his shoulder and asked, “Have you two, by chance, run
into Jin lately?”
“Funny you
should ask,” Chu replied. “We just left his place earlier this evenin’. He’s been shackin’ up wit Touya fer the past few months.
Why do ya bring him up?” Chu
asked, wondering if somehow knew of their friend’s
condition.
“Yusuke was
asking about him. I thought that perhaps
he and Jin could also spend some time together before we have to leave.”
“It’s about
time he showed up after what he did.” Rinku piped up, receiving a slap across the back of his
head by Chu. “Wadda I do?” The young demon whined ducking his head.
Kurama paused and turned to face the pair following him,
his expression confused. “Is Jin upset
with Yusuke for returning to the Ningenkai?”
“No, not exactly.” Chu answered, glaring down at Rinku.
“What?” The child asked. “Touya said we had
to be discreet, not that we couldn’t tell someone we trusted. Besides, he likes Kurama,
too!”
“What’s
going on?” Kurama asked, his curiosity growing, if
this was something that was going to re-upset Yusuke, then the fox was going to
let them know what had happened between Yusuke and Keiko and not to bring it
up.
“Might as well tell ya.” Chu
muttered rubbing the back of his head with one large, broad hand. “Jin’s bout near due to pop out a baby. .
. Yusuke’s baby.”
Kurama blinked, completely flabbergasted at the news. He knew that Jin and Yusuke had spent the
better part of a year sharing a bed before Yusuke returned to start his life
with Keiko as his wife, but he never in a million years would have thought
their coupling would have spawned a child.
“Jin’s
pregnant.” Kurama
whispered, still in a bit of shock.
“About to pop. . . when exactly is he due?”
“Bout two
weeks is the guesstamated date.” Chu
answered. Kurama quickly did the math in his
head. By his calculations, Jin was at
least two months pregnant before Yusuke even left the Makai.
Kurama heaved a sharp sigh.
This was not what he had expected.
“We had better let Yusuke know.”
“Do you
think he deserves to know?” Chu asked, surprising both Kurama
and Rinku. “He
left Jin. Jin should be the one to decide wither or not Yusuke should be told of
the babe.”
“If Yusuke
was still sharing his life with his mate, then I would agree with you full
heartedly. However, under the
circumstances, Yusuke may still be able to make a life for himself here with
Jin and their soon to arrive child.
Yusuke has been though a lot in the past few months, had he known of
Jin’s pregnancy I could almost guarantee you that he wouldn’t have left. But, now more then ever, I think Yusuke
should get a second chance.”
“What’s
been happening to my ol’ mate?” Chu
asked.
“I’ll let
him explain.” Kruama answered leading him to the room
of his and Yusuke’s room.
“Yusuke?” Kurama called upon entering the darkened room, finding it
empty. “Where in the world did he
disappear to?” He wondered.
“Urameshi!” Chu
bellowed, searching every inch of the small room just incase the young demon
had decided to hide from them. He eyed
both the empty beds and noticed a small note placed on one of their
pillows. He picked it up and handed it
to Kurama who read it out loud.
Kurama,
Sorry for leaving you like this, but
me and Puu both got a weird vibe. Me and him are gonna
go check it out, be back later.
Yusuke
“A weird vibe.” Rinku echoed. “You
don’t think he was some how feeling Jin do ya?”
“I’m not
sure.” Kruama
answered. “How far away is Jin from
here? In what
direction?”
“Half a day’s walk northwest from here, right outside a wee lil’ village.”
Chu answered.
Kurama nodded and rushed out of the room and down to where
the owner was sitting outside in a rocking chair. The short, fat little frog demon and his
equally fat wife barely raised their eyes to the three demons in front of them.
“Did you
happen to see my friend leave here with his large blue bird?” Kurama asked. The female nodded disinterestedly and pointed
them behind her shoulder, northwest, the same direction were Jin was.
“Uh oh.” Rinku squeaked lifting his eyes up to Chu and Kurama.
“Do you
think you two could show me the way directly to Jin and Touya?” Kurama asked. “Just incase Yusuke is headed there.”
Chu nodded.
“If we hurry we should get there just before morning.” He answered taking off at a dead run with Kurama and Rinku close as his
heels.
