AN: This chapter was originally 2,348 words, which included lyrics from a song. I think the song is still very fitting for our demon boys, but I took out the song lyrics which left 2,013 words for this chapter and now I have added 1,410 new words for a new total of 3,423! I hope you like it and thank you very much reading. On with the story!

Chapter 7 Of 18
Painful Decisions
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
The fire demon crushed his lips to the fox's in a harsh, bruising kiss. It was slightly painful and yet so them. The redhead responded with as much enthusiasm, wrapping his arms around the smaller demon's neck. Hiei let go of the shirt only to snake his arms around Kurama's waist, drawing their bodies tightly together. Both groaning in pleasure when their clothed erections rubbed together. While their tongues dueled for dominance, their bodies began to do so as well. They rolled across the floor, both of them literally fighting for control and trying to pen the other down.
When Hiei realized exactly what was going on between them he broke the kiss and gently pushed Kurama off of him. He never wanted to fight the fox, including for this. Playfully fighting for dominance was one thing, actually fighting for dominance was something entirely different. One of them would end up hurt and that he would not allow, no matter how much they both wanted this to happen between them. It would be to much like rape for one of them to literally force the other into the submissive role and hold him there during sex.
Both demons were out of breath and trying to come to terms of what had happened. Hiei was the first to move. He stood up and went to the small closet, retrieving his katana and tying the sash around his waist. He then slipped on his boots before he walked over and picked his shirt up off the floor, pulling it on. Hiei picked up his cloak off the couch and pulled it on before finally turning to meet the very confused, hurt eyes of his fox. He shook his head sadly before turning and walking into the bedroom. It was both of their faults for not thinking that this would be an issue between them.
Kurama finally came to his senses and jumped up, sprinting into the bedroom. He was fully expecting it to be already empty with a single open window and him hurt once again. The fox stopped suddenly when he saw Hiei standing by an opened window, staring out at the night sky.
"Hiei?" Kurama asked softly while moving closer. He wasn't sure of what else to say. The fire demon turned around with sadness present in the features of his face and the sadness actually reached his ruby red eyes.
"I will be blunt with you, Kurama. It is very obvious that we both want a relationship to happen between us and of course the sex that would go along with it. I would say that this change in our status from friends to lovers has been building for awhile. I should have realized this before now, but the problem is nothing can happen between us."
"Why do you say that?" Kurama asked, moving still closer. Dread was swelling in him, he felt it down to his soul, Hiei was leaving him again. “A relationship can happen if we let it."
"No we can't. Judging from the way we both literally fought for dominance over that kiss alone, I’d say both of us are the same, the dominate partners during sex." Hiei replied, turning slightly away so as not to look into those pleading green eyes.
"So what?"
"I believe I already know the answer to this, but I will ask it. Fox, have you ever been mounted?” Hiei once again stared out into the dark night.
"What! What does that have to do with anything?" Kurama finished crossing the bedroom to stand a few feet behind the fire demon. Even after he said that, he started to realize just what the other male was getting at and he understood how that could be a very big problem between them.
"Just answer the question." Hiei demanded forcefully.
"Of course not! I have never been mounted in either of my two lives." Kurama replied with a negative shake of his head. This really was going to end badly for them. "I am Youko Kurama and that is simply not allowed for anyone!"
"Hn, That's exactly what I am talking about. You should know that I have never been mounted either. Like you said, it is not allowed. In that lies our problem, Fox. If one of us were to allow a mounting then the one that is mounted would have to change, essentially be broken of who they really are. Do you want to be the one to break me?"
"No! I don’t want you to change, I want you to stay just as you are."
"I am the same. I do not want to be the one to break you."
"But……." Kurama started.
Hiei held up his hand, cutting him off. He moved to stand in front of the redhead. His decision was made and it was for the best. "If you need help to fight Yomi, I will help you. No one should be treated like a slave and have a child taken from them by force. I have lived through the horrors of that kind of life. Know this I will never come back here, you will only see me in battle."
"What!?!" Kurama grew more and more upset with each passing second. This couldn’t be happening, he wasn’t just loosing a potential lover, he was loosing his best friend!
"It's far to tempting, Fox." Hiei raised his dragon adorned arm to run a single finger down the fox's cheek and across his lips. "You are too beautiful."
"So are you." Kurama smiled sadly, his green eyes sparkling with tears. He placed his hands flat against the strong chest of the fire demon.
"Did you really want me? Did you really want to be the lover of the Forbidden One? Even though, you don't know why I am truly labeled Forbidden? To hell with the risks and the consequences?"
"Yes, I did. I wanted you, all of you." Kurama replied without hesitation.
Hiei slipped his hand behind the fox's neck and pulled him downward into a soft kiss. It was a kiss that nether one would try to control. When they parted, a single tear slid down Kurama's cheek. Hiei quickly wiped it away with heavy moisture in his own eyes that he absolutely refused to let fall. He took a deep breath trying to find the courage that seems too have fled him.
"I'm….I'm…..I'm sorry." Hiei whispered, another apology to the redhead, words he thought he would never utter and now he has done it two days in a row. It seemed he was always unintentionally hurting him. He wouldn't have apologized to anybody else, except his fox.
“Please, don’t do this.” Kurama was having a hard time holding in all of his emotions, this was hurting him so bad. If he was just given some time, he knew he could figure something out that would work for them.
Hiei leaned forward, placing another small kiss on trembling lips before stepping backwards. "I wanted to be your lover as well."
With that, Hiei disappeared in a blur of black, gone through the open window.
Kurama dropped to his knees, staring out into the night. It was over, his partnership, his friendship, and his chance of love with Hiei was all gone. Destroyed because neither of them couldn’t even entertain the thought of taking dick. Hiei was right about everything. It was true, they were both dominates when in a sexual encounter. The fox had incorrectly assumed Hiei would take the role of the bottom because he was bigger then him and well, he was Youko Kurama. He also understood what Hiei meant about breaking one of them. They were both so dead set against being the bottom of a sexual encounter that for one of them to accept being the bottom that one would have to change himself so completely, in other words he would have to ‘break’ himself to be the submissive partner. This hurt worse then any wound ever inflicted on his body.
Kurama didn’t know how long he was on his knees on the floor, it had been awhile though. He forced himself to rise to his feet and slowly make his way to the bathroom on numb legs. After a long, very hot shower, he finally emerged and headed straight for the bed. The fox didn't bother putting on any clothes; he would have no visitor tonight and never would again. He laid down, emotionally drained. For the first time in the fox's two lives, he finally knew what it was like to be the one with the broken heart. He drifted to sleep with his mind still racing. Two thoughts standing out among them all. He wondered what Hiei was doing and where he was? And. What if one of them could learn to ‘bend’ instead of ‘breaking’?

The lonely days turned into lonely weeks for Kurama. There were several more capture attempts by mercenary demons that worked for Yomi, but they all were stopped. Hiei held to his word. He fought side by side with the fox every time he was needed, but did not see him otherwise. His fighting style greatly changed again. Hiei was now extremely vicious when it came to the battles and enjoyed dealing out the death blows to the mercenaries. Even Yusuke and Kuwabara had noticed the change. They had asked Kurama about it, but he could only shrug his shoulders at them and remained silent. He couldn't bring himself to tell them the truth and he acknowledged to himself that his own fighting style had changed too. They both fought cruelly now if the mercenary demon tried attacking the other during battle. They no longer were fighting for just their own lives. They now fought to protect each other, even though they weren’t with each other. It wasn’t the same as fighting to help a team member, this, this was something else entirely. This was something that neither thought they would ever do for anyone. The best way to describe it was they were now fighting as if to protect a mate and or a family member.
Kurama was lying on his bed with another long sleepless night ahead of him. He was worried about Hiei. The nights were getting colder and that night was supposed to be the coldest yet, down in the mid forties. When it was cold, Hiei usually came to his apartment to stay warm, but not anymore. During these weeks alone, Kurama had been working his mind over the problem between himself and Hiei. He believes he has found a solution, but he hasn’t had the chance to speak with Hiei privately. The fire demon immediately leaves after each battle without a single word to him and each time more hurt was added to the emotional pain he was already feeling.
After about thirty minutes of trying to go to sleep, the fox got up from the bed. He needed to think and the apartment was not helping. It was becoming more and more apparent that there was only one resolution for him concerning this issue with Yomi. He quickly got dressed before reaching into the nightstand drawer. He pulled out a handful of very select seeds and stuffed them into the pocket of the jeans he wore, just in case they were needed. Kurama went to the closet by the front door and grabbed his old jacket. He refused to wear the red leather jacket that matched the one hanging beside it, Hiei's black leather jacket. The one gift he had given Hiei and it had been left behind, forgotten, like he himself had been. It was sort of fitting.
The fox left the apartment at a run, by way of the sliding glass door and took to the rooftops. At first, he had no clue where he was going, he was just running, his mind racing with him. After several laps around the prefecture where he lived, he decided to go to his secret place. He hadn't been there since he had taken Hiei there, eight weeks ago. When Kurama entered the small clearing vie tree tops, he walked to the very center of the area. With a smile, he withdrew a very particular seed from his pocket by touch alone and knelt down. Now normally he wouldn’t dare plant this seed in the human world, but at the moment he didn’t really care and he wouldn’t let it grow wildly. Kurama dropped the dark purple seed on the ground and placed his palm over it. He sent out short continuous waves of his energy, but not enough to draw attention from any spiritually aware person. Over the course of several minutes, the small clearing was transformed into a beautiful, but very deadly paradise from all the hidden seeds through out the clearing. If any demon tried to attack the redhead, he would find himself in the jaws of a hungry plant. There were many plants from both the Makai and the Ningenkai, all of the fox's favorites.
Kurama was lying on his back in the middle of a gigantic blood red flower from the Makai, grown from the purple seed he had dropped on the ground. The petals and the many long vines surrounding the stalk were moving as if they had a life of there own, but it was just the fox's own turbulent energy. He stared at the stars above him, his eyes heavy with moisture. He had come to a very painful, life altering decision.
"It's far to cold for you to be out tonight, Kurama."
"The same could be said about you, Hiei." Kurama replied without moving. He knew the fire demon was about thirty feet behind him in a tree.
"Why are you out here?" Hiei asked before jumping off the limb to land silently on the ground among the deadly plants.
"Thinking about my future, or lack there of."
"What in the hell do you mean by that?!"
“Exactly what I mean, I came to a very important decision about what is left of my future." Kurama replied, his voice held so much sadness that is was palpable. He had hoped that the fire demon would have ignored his low waves of energy since it wasn’t battle level, but once again luck was not with him.
Hiei walked towards the redhead already knowing he would not like what he was about to hear. He didn’t even flinch when a very thorny vine, dripping with what was very likely poison, brushed against his leg, the fox would not allow the plant to hurt him. Kurama sat up, his heartbroken green eyes followed the fire demon when he felt his energy start moving. It was not going to be easy to convince the stubborn demon of his decision. It really was best for everybody involved, no one else would be hurt because of him. Hiei jumped up to the giant flower and then sat down in front of his fox, flaring his energy to raise the temperature around them.
"What decision is that?" Hiei asked as he watched the redhead intently.
"I'm giving up this life."
"What?"
"I'm going back to the Makai." Kurama answered, taking a deep breath before continuing. "I'm going back to Yomi."
"NO!! WHY!?" Hiei shouted, quickly moving to his knees.
"I can’t in good conscience continue to have my friends fighting my battles and getting hurt for me."
"What about your ningen mother?!" Hiei asked, desperate to find something to change the fox's mind.
"I have already wrote a very long letter to her, explaining everything about me, where I am, and what I am. It will be found among my belongings when I go missing and after she reads that letter she will no longer love me. I will have lost everything, my mother, you, and my friends, the implosion of my life complete." Kurama answered quietly, his whole demeanor showed just how defeated he felt.
"You are Youko Kurama! Why are you giving up?!"
"I'm just so tired of fighting."
"I DON'T BELIEVE THAT!" Hiei grabbed the fox by his jacket and gave him a rough shake. Kurama looked down, refusing to meet the demon's angry red eyes. He knew this would be hard, very hard, but this was so terribly painful.
"I'm sorry………I just can't fight anymore. I have given away so many pieces of myself that I have nothing left to give." Kurama shook his head, bringing a hand up to wipe at his tear filled eyes. "Hundreds of years of life in two different bodies and absolutely zero to show for it. Every single time I thought I had a chance at happiness it has been taken from me. I have nothing, I am nothing.”
"What about me?!" Hiei growled lowly, clenching his fists tighter in the jacket.
"What about you?!?!" Kurama snapped his head up to glare angrily at the fire demon. "You have made it abundantly clear that we can be nothing more then friends and I don’t believe we can be called that anymore! You didn’t even want to give a relationship between us a chance so you have no say in the matter!!"
"What have I been doing then, Fox!? I fight hard for you, to help protect you!"
"So does Yusuke and Kuwabara! They fight even though they don't know the whole damn story!"
"I don't care if they don't know all of it!" Hiei shouted, his voice rising again with every word. "I'm not letting you return to Yomi!! I will not allow you to become that demon's sex toy!"
"Allow?! ALLOW?! I didn’t ask for your permission and I certainly don’t need it!! It is no concern of yours if I'm Yomi’s personal sex toy or anything else he desires from me!! At least I know exactly what he wants and at this point he can have me, I don’t care anymore! In case you didn’t understood from my ridiculous little dreams that I shared with you, I have never taken a lover in this life in the belief that I was saving myself for someone special and those dreams has now been destroyed! The virginity of this body will now be given to a faceless, nameless female, just like before. I will let Yomi take the anal virginity of both my forms and just maybe as a reward for finally giving him what he wants I’ll get glimpses of my child as he raises it as his own!!" Kurama was breathing rapidly, it felt very much like his chest was being ripped open and his feelings were raw.
Hiei was surprised, but hid it well. No, he certainly hadn’t realized Kurama’s redheaded form was a virgin, but that knowledge only hardened his resolve. "You belong to me, Fox, and that includes your body, your virginity!!"
"Leave!! Go away, Hiei!!" Kurama closed his eyes, letting his head hang limply. "Just please go away."
"I'm not going any where, I’m staying here with you." Hiei replied, his voice softening considerably. His choice was made, he would not loose his friend, his fighting partner, and his fox to Yomi. He would not let Youko Kurama do this to himself.
"Please just go away!! It hurts me far too much when you talk like that, knowing that it isn’t true!! I can't handle it right now! Please go!"
"I'm not leaving you, Fox, not ever again. You will continue to fight and I will be beside you the entire time. You might as well resign yourself to the fact that you belong to me and I will not allow anyone to touch you."
"You keep saying that, but I don't belong to you! You had your chance to be with me, to claim me, but you rejected me because the ‘complications’ were to hard! You didn’t even want to give us a chance at finding a solution."
"I can’t lose you, Fox, stay with me." Hiei’s voice was soft and pleading, so very unlike him. “Would you continue to fight, if I gave you something to fight for?”
"Yes, I would." Kurama answered, finally looking back to the fire demon's red eyes after noticing the change in his voice. "Are you willing to give me something to fight for?"
"Yes………..Me!" Hiei whispered before yanking Kurama down into a desperate kiss. If this is what it took to keep his fox safe with him then so be it.
