Chapter 9

Once Enraged
Miki sat in the living room in Genkai�s temple worried about Hiei�s condition. �I can�t believe I did that��
he muttered.
Yusuke, Kurama, and Kuwabara were there as well keeping Miki calm. �What triggered it?� Kuwabara asked. �Maybe we
could get him to do it again.�
Yusuke smacked Kuwabara off the back of his head. �We�re supposed to make him feel better.� he growled low.
Puu pecked Kuwabara on the head in an angry way. �PUU, PUU, PUU!!!�
Kuwabara swatted Puu away and gritted his teeth.
�Yes Hiei is his guardian after all.� Kurama said and nodded emphatically.
Miki lay in Kurama�s lap and sighed. �Besides you wouldn�t want to know what triggered it�it took everything in my
power not to attack the human that made me go red.�
Yusuke�s eyebrow twitched. �Is that what you�re calling it when your eyes turn red and you get all battle ready?�
Now in a safe place, Puu sat on Yusuke�s head swaying from dizziness.
Miki nodded and noticed that Kuwabara was giving him an �oh no your not� look. Miki looked up at Kurama and
pointed at Kuwabara. �He�s mean make him leave.�
�WHAT THE HELL DID I DO?!?!� Kuwabara screamed.
Kurama laughed a little �You gave Miki a dirty look.�
Yusuke punched Kuwabara this time and soon they were on the floor in a small brawl.
Puu had jumped off of Yusuke�s head just in time and flew over to Miki landing lightly on his hip. �Puu��
�Do they always do that?� Miki asked with wide eyes.
�Sadly yes�� Kurama said and rubbed his temples with his fingertips.
Time passed and morning came with no change in Hiei�s condition. Kurama and Yusuke had fallen asleep waiting for news from Yukina and Kuwabara was pestering Miki. �Hey��
�What�?� Miki muttered and sipped some tea.
�So�who made you go red?� Kuwabara asked desperately wanting to know how to push Miki�s buttons.
�You�ll just freak out and tell Yusuke.� Miki hinted.
�I will not!�
Miki was somewhat reminded of a similar conversation he had with a little girl by the name of Jina. �Fine just
don�t wake the others.� He looked around the room and smiled a little at the way Yusuke slept with his mouth open and his
hand in his shirt. �The person that made me go red was�� he whispered.
Kuwabara listened intently and his eyes were wide.
��Keiko Yukimora�

Kuwabara didn�t keep the secret to himself in fact he told everyone who mattered. He told Yukina, Kurama, and
even his sister Shizuru who was helping Keiko with wedding plans.
A whole week had passed and Hiei was well enough to spar with Yusuke. Miki watched his Guardian match wits and
strength with the man of his desire and he sighed. �I wish I could tell�but�I�m such a coward.�
When Hiei and Yusuke were finished fighting Hiei went over to Miki and held out a hand. �Wanna come?� he
asked bluntly.
Miki blinked a little.
Yusuke laughed �You could at least tell him were going to the lake to cool off.�
�L�Lake?� Miki stammered. He could do a hot spring at least there were shallows and rocks to sit on�but�
��No.� Miki stood and turned away, he sped off.
�That was weird�it took forever to get you in the water now this?� Yusuke said
referencing Hiei�s original
distaste for water.
�Hm�� Hiei ignored the last remark and looked in the direction that Miki went off in. ��do you think he knows
he�s running toward the beach?�

Miki stopped when his feet hit sand and he saw crashing waves ahead of him. He found a spot and sat down
watching the water and sighed.
�Hey Miki is that you?� the voice urged a rage inside him, It was Keiko.
His fangs dropped and his eyes turned red. �Go away.� Miki hissed.
�Huh? But I just wanted to say hi since it seems we�re both at the beach today.� Keiko moved closer.
�Go away�� Miki said and hugged himself digging his claws into his arms. The blood dripped down into the sand
coloring it a red so deep it looked black.
�Ah! M-Miki what�s wrong?� Keiko moved closer and put out her hand to place it on his shoulder.
In a flash she was stopped and carried to the other side of the beach. Hiei glared at her then looked back to see
if it wasn�t too late.
Miki could smell Yusuke; he could feel Yusuke holding him �Yusuke�I�I didn�t hurt her�I swear.� He sobbed feeling
terrible; his body shook with the pain of hatred towards Yusuke�s bride to be.
�I know�You did good.� Yusuke said and patted Miki�s back. �You�re really strong.�

�I hate her so much�� Miki whimpered. ��Because she has you.�
Yusuke blinked and looked over in the direction of Keiko and Hiei nothing could disguise the fear on his face,
fear for Keiko.
Later at Genkai�s temple Yusuke kept consoling Miki until the proper research could be dug up by either Yukina or
Kurama (who was still at work).
Keiko was in another room with Hiei guarding the door. �What�s going on?� Keiko asked with shock in her voice.
Hiei just heaved a sigh and shook his head. Of course he had no answer. Hiei was going over Miki in his mind at
this point the boy was a puzzle. �When he was in blue state he related to Kurama in a human way Hiei didn�t understand,
Hiei was also attracted to the purity of this original state (he still didn�t know why) it could have been
the guardian urge. The (rage) red state was originally brought on by the scent of blood and extensive pain
now it also occurs in times around people Miki dislikes.� Hiei shook his head at this thought and gave Keiko
a questioning look before going back to his thoughts �In his violet form he takes on a very�� Hiei
swallowed hard ��strong personality. Like his Rage form it�ll awaken around a lot of blood�mostly that of
a loved one. Or in Miki�s words �someone precious�� even going over everything he knew it made Miki even more of a mystery.
Keiko picked something up. �Oh! I remember this��
Hiei looked over and noticed she was playing with the puzzle box. �Put that down�� he hissed.
Keiko pouted. �Oh come on I sold this to Miki�or rather gave it to him.� she laughed.
�What?� Hiei�s eyes widened.
Keiko explained everything about their Valentines Day encounter. �Now that I remember�� she began as she ended her
tale of the broke vampire. ��I think that was before Yusuke showed me a picture of Miki. I didn�t really know who he
was when I met him that day.�

Yukina ran into the living room where Yusuke and Miki were �Here read this!� she said and rushed to the room where
Hiei and Keiko were. She needed to tell Keiko this Girl to girl.
Yusuke looked at the strange book and read the page that Yukina had bookmarked.

�What does it say?� Miki asked a little scared as he didn�t let go of Yusuke.
Yusuke shook and gritted his teeth before looking down at Miki. �It says that you could kill Keiko because of
something you want from me.�
Miki closed his eyes and turned away. �� he couldn�t say anything. There was nothing that could make this situation
any better. �Excuse me�� Miki stood and ran away he had to go far away from Yusuke if he was ever going to get
over his need for the toushin.
Yusuke blinked realizing that the vampire was probably even more scared of the situation than anyone else. He sighed
and got up walking to the room where Keiko rocked back and forth in her seat hugging herself. �What happened?�
Yukina stood and smiled nervously. �I don�t think I made her feel any better.�
�At least we know he�s gaining control right?� Yusuke wanted to confirm.
Hiei shook his head. �No he isn�t.�
Keiko began to cry.
�What are you talking about he didn�t try to kill me�� Yusuke said and grinned at Hiei. ��What kind of guardian
are you if Miki can just drain you like that?�
Hiei grunted before slowly stepping over to Yusuke and striking him hard in the gut.
�What the FUCK?!� Yusuke cursed.

Hiei just glared at Yusuke before vanishing.

Miki walked around the foothills of Genkai�s property until he came upon a waterfall. �Oh wow�� swimming
put him off, but that�s not what he liked about this beauty of nature. He noticed a small cave behind the falls
and smiled when he wondered how deep it went. As soon as Miki entered the cave he felt refreshed and
he folded his umbrella. �The water make�s a great curtain.� He thought as he walked deeper into the cave. The lack of
sunlight was the best part of this cool new hideout and he lay down on a large mossy patch and closed his eyes.
