Hiei's Harem - Pt. 13 - Inheriting

Scene 9 ------------ Inside The Cave


* Hiei pauses just inside to watch Staci settle on her thick furs, keeping her back to him. The only sound in the chamber is the tinkling of the wall spring’s water dripping into the bucket. When he realizes that she’s trembling he doesn’t like it. He’s never felt this much fear coming from his human mate before. But Hiei manages to keep his composure as he moves to get a cupful of the cool spring water. When he sits down in front of her and offers her the cup Staci looks up at him timidly.


Hiei- Please.. take it.. And settle yourself.


* His tone grows gradually gruffer as he speaks. He forces himself to calm down again when she takes the cup cautiously. Hiei raises his other hand to steady hers.


Hiei- Staci,.. you have no reason to continue feeling this way.. Why do you feel this way?


* For a couple moments the blonde contemplates her words as she lowers her eyes from his intense gaze.


Staci- You-you feel.. like a demon.


* Hiei grunts and lets her work her hands out of his grasp.


Hiei- I was born this way.


* In spite of herself, Staci glances up at him with a brief giggle.


Hiei- Staci,.. you feel the difference in my energy.

Staci- Hai.. Y-you feel more like.. the ones that brought me here.


* Now her fear makes more sense to Hiei.


Hiei- I’m not going to harm you.

Staci- I know.. N-not while I’m.. pregnant.


* Staci lowers her eyes and begins to sip the water. Hiei studies her a moment, then looks away.


Hiei- I never much cared for humans, it’s true.


* He holds up a hand when she raises teary eyes to look at him.


Hiei- Now, before you get anymore blubbery, hear me out.


* She looks back down into the cup. Hiei feels her struggling to control her desire to flee from him again.


Staci- I’m.. l-l-listening, sir.


* Hiei scowls, but continues.


Hiei- The gang that raised me,.. for lack of a better word,.. always treated humans as.. entertainment.. To them, a couple captured humans was the evening's entertainment and.. dinner.. Personally, I thought the taste to be vile.. Just the smell of it cooking would turn my stomach.


* Staci swallows.


Hiei- I only told you this so that it would put you at ease.. I’m not going to eat you.


* Staci gives him a half amused, but weak smile.


Hiei- The thing that irritated me most was the fact that none of them ever fought back.. Course I eventually learned that it was because they were mostly drugged..

Staci- I.. tried to fight.. in the beginning.


* Hiei looks at her again.


Satci- But then one of the demons that.. used me.. said something after he was done that.. made me give up.. He said that even if I would.. escape.. where would I go? I had no idea how to get back to..

Hiei- I can take you there.


* Staci closes her eyes.


Hiei- I know a place where you can stay.. Where you’ll be safe and.. happy.. A place where your baby can even grow up in peace.

Staci- It.. s-sounds.. nice, but..


* Hiei nods and stands.


Hiei- Gather what you want to take..

Staci- Hiei,..

Hiei- I can get Koenma to open a portal and we can be there in a blink.


* Staci bows her head. The lump that forms in her throat keeps her from being able to object any further as Hiei leaves. In her confused state, depression begins to set in and helps her to ‘realize’ that he must really want to be free of her. She hears a brief argument outside as she moves toward the entrance, but her human ears can’t make out all of the words. She does, however, hear Hiei put an end to it all.


Hiei- She wants to be safe and I won’t deny her that! Enough!


* Hiei turns to face her when she comes into view.


Hiei- Let’s go. The portal is opening.


* Staci swallows, drops her eyes a moment, then goes on outside. The rest of the pack look toward her. She manages a weak smile.


Staci- I.. want to thank you all.. for giving me the closest thing to a.. home here.

Sarista- Staci,..

Hiei- Don’t try to dissuade her, ‘Ris.. She’s frightened of me.. I won’t have that stench around me!


* Sarista looks at Hiei who has his back to them again. The whole pack can feel their Alpha’s buried disappointment. Staci looks at them again, the only one that’s misjudging his harshness.


Staci- He doesn’t want me..

Hiei- I never said that!


* Staci flinches at his growl. Sarista starts to speak, but Hiei cuts her off.


Hiei- Let’s go, Whitey.


* Staci drops her eyes and goes over next to Hiei. She hesitates when he steps through the swirling void in front of them.


Sarista- He’s only concerned for you, Staci.


* Staci half glances back toward them, then Hiei reaches back through the portal to pull her through it.
