A/N: Just so everyone knows, I am trying my best to keep a distinction between when I write 'Kurama' and when I write 'Shuuichi'. I first write these chapters in second perspective (which means I use 'you' instead of Hanna/She/ect) before switching it to third perspective for Fanfiction (dot) net site, so I wanted to make sure that it followed along with the character's information about him. Kurama is written, for now, as an indication that he is operating outside of her/your knowledge...like when he's just with his friends or something.

Chapter nine
The rain had let up as the night wore on. His hand brushed the water away from the metal on the balcony railing despite how useless the action was. Despite the reprieve, Kurama knew it was just that - a reprieve. There was a pause in the air filled with the promise of more rain. He could practically smell it coming. The rain would start up once more later that night which limited how much time he had to take a leap in the investigation process.
Kurama looked back into the apartment and frowned. His shook his hand dry even with that his skin still felt damp and moist, just as it should. It was kind of a reflection for what was causing him to linger on the balcony instead of getting down to business. No matter how fast he got this done he would continue to feel the repercussions of partaking in the action; he might have been stealing from you for a good reason but it was still stealing from someone who wanted to trust him.
The redhead let out a sigh as he ran his damp hand through his hair. He was getting soft. Years ago this would have never even caused him to blink an eye. He'd have stolen whatever he wanted from you and then been off without even thinking a second thought. Hiei was right in the fact that living a human life had changed him. And despite the hesitation he was feeling right now, Kurama was still convinced that it was the best choice he could have made to remain attached to his human life for as long as possible. He had pushed aside the life of Youko Kurama for something that was filled with...well more. The hesitation and potential guilt he was feeling right now wasn't all the pleasant but at the same time there was another side to the coin. The reason he was feeling such hesitation was because of the attachment he felt to innocences of the victim - namely you. Instead of just filling his time trying to stay entertained and alive as he had as the demon thief, he was filling it with memories that were pleasant to actually feel.
With one last look up towards the dark sky, Kurama moved back into the apartment. He closed the sliding door almost silently but it seemed he had stirred you regardless. You moved ever so slightly, hand reaching out to the noise as though you needed to sooth something. Kurama felt an indulgent smile creep across his face even as he pulled a seed from his hair. The flower matured quickly and when he closed his hand it became nothing but pollen. A quick breath out sent the pollen directly at you; the gold dust glimmered as it lulled you back into a deep sleep.
He knelt by your bed and carefully wiped the excess away from your face. The pollen would dissipate but he had experimented enough with this flower to know that it was rather irritating to the eyes and tongue if it was left in place. Besides, he didn't need you to sleep through the day. He just needed you at rest long enough to sleep past into the late morning.
Once he removed the traces of golden pollen from your face, Kurama returned to the real task at hand. He knew you had an access key card for the main building of the business he was investigating. He had seen it once, very briefly, after the second lunch you had brought him. It was an inconspicuous little thing that looked like any other employee ID badge. He found it after maybe a minute of looking. He might have to rethink the idea that he wasn't getting rusty because a minute to find a key of any sort was far too long.
Thankfully he hadn't lost his ability to make a silent exit. That much he had retained and Kurama took full advantage of that skill as he exited your apartment. But not before leaving a small flower and note atop the neatly folded bed set.
It had taken you a great deal of effort to wake up that morning, more than you knew it should have. In fact, it felt like your eyes were clouded even as you got yourself to sit up. By the look of things the sun had been up for an two or so hours. That put you around seven, maybe eight in the morning. So despite the fact that it had taken you a great deal of effort it wasn't like you had actually slept through the whole morning. Though you were still going to blame the drowsiness on the alcohol you had consumed the night before.
You practically had to shake yourself awake even as you went to get a bottle of mineral water to rehydrate from the night before. It might not have been enough to cure the tiredness but at least it was a place to start. After that was a time full of normal morning routines though you intentionally skipped breakfast. You had a client flying in from Beijing specifically today.
It hadn't taken you very long to notice that Shuuichi wasn't present that morning. You noticed it prior to taking a shower. It was just that while you were concerned that he might have gone out in the rain after all, you had expected him to be gone before you woke up. It did save the whole awkward morning routines that people viewed as a very intimate part of life. No one ever liked to admit to natural bodily gases or things like having to sit on the toilet for more than a minute. That was a level of friendship that you were sure would take a lot longer than a few weeks to groom. Assuming, of course, that he still continued to be a patron for that long.
Trying to push those thoughts aside you went to the folded up bed. He had actually taken the time to neatly stack and fold all of the things you had offered up to him last night - sweat set included. Somehow both pieces smelled fresher than when you had given them to him. Eventually you were going to have to find out his secret. It must have had something to do with flowers because he had left a small sprig of hyacinth for you on the returned items. Normally you knew they grew in bunches but somehow he'd managed to get a few of them on the same vibrant green stem without the normal layered cylander that they came in. It was so artfully done that you couldn't even tell where he had clipped it from!
The note attached to them with what suspiciously looked like part of a napkin read: Thank you for taking such care of me last night.
You smiled at the note and tucked it away. Though it was sad to think that the flowers were probably going to wilt and die soon. You grabbed two pieces of paper and pressed the flower between them using one of your heavy text books. You wouldn't dare ruin a page of literature with a flower but you didn't mind the natural dyes and juices getting on two normal stationary papers. Once that was taken care of you finished up in the apartment and headed out.
Mister Vue did not like to be kept waiting after all.
