Notes: All right, I started on this fic before any of my others, but I sort of deflected myself away from it because I couldn't get a proper feel on it at the point where I wanted it. Now I am turning it over for public scrutiny, and I hope it is well recieved. *thoughts*

There is detailed rape in this story, character trama, death, and overall, this fic will have some very very low points. Proceed at your own risk. All in the name of curiosityBy: Skeren DreameraPrologueA dark green gaze flitted towards the forest, away from his classmates, distracted from the lesson he was supposed to be learning from his Ningen teachers. He simply already knew everything there was to know about this forest, and that's why he couldn't understand what was bothering him like this. *Wait, maybe... yes, that's it, it's a smell.* The green eyed wonder raised his hand, brushing his mane of long hair back from his face as he gazed deeper into the forest to the areas the students were not supposed to go into on this field trip. *It's that way. I need to check on this..* He turned his attention back to the students crowding in towards him. *If I could just get away from my classmates...*
"Minamino-san! Would you happen to know what this plant is and what its attributes are?" So much for his attempt to sneak away unnoticed, now everyone will be watching him again.
On a brief sigh of long sufferance he answered, "It's poison ivy, rare for the region and causes a rash when directly placed on the skin."
"Excellent! Everyone, it's time for lunch." With that statement the crowd started to drift back towards the buses. *Perfect, now if I could just get this one student to look away...*
He had to wait until they were nearly to the buses to slip away, he was aware he should go back with them for lunch, but he just couldn't bring himself to risk this being something serious. *Besides, if I work quickly enough, my kaasan will never know the difference.* With that last thought, he slipped into the forest. *At least I won't have to worry about the post-trip quiz tomorrow morning..* It was his botany class, the only class he took just for the sheer amusement of it. *These Ningens don't know as much about growing things as they like to think.* He padded off into the forest on quiet steps, enjoying the walk as he moved through the woods. He hadn't found time to be just a Kitsune in a long while, and this diversion was the perfect excuse to enjoy himself. Despite how much he would have liked to just wander through the forest all night however, he still had things that needed to be done. On a sigh he turned his attention in the direction of the odd smell. *Well, I ought to be a little wary.. It's not a plant I've ever smelled in the Ningenkai before..* Coming up on a mostly empty clearing he looked around, spotting the source of the unique smell as a black and green flower sprouting from a giant block of black onyx, emerald eyes looked carefully around the clearing, searching for any ki that might be around him, and finding none.
Deciding there wasn't much danger in approaching the plant, he managed to foolishly ignore the nagging little voice that was telling him that he was forgetting something about this plant, even as his steps brought him out into the clearing. *Yes, this was the unique scent I smelled.* It was indeed something new, a combination of petunias, roses, and something distinctly animal, the flower itself looking rather delicate, with a black stem and soft green petals. *What could it hurt?* Body ignoring the warnings going on in his head, Kurama reached one of his pale graceful hands out to the flower, stroking his fingers along the top of it, oddly drawn.
Kurama's eyes flew wide in pain, suddenly paralyzed as he tried to jerk his hand back from the flower, his ki being dragged swiftly away from him despite his efforts. *Baka.* His last thought is remembering that nagging little warning in the back of his head before he lost all consciousness. *Makai flower, Bell of capture, when touched it can be used as a lure for any one person, and can use the ki as it's own signature.. Damn.*
A few moments later There was no longer a flower in sight, just what appeared to be Kurama taking a nap against the stone, his ki low, and the clearing filled with his scent.
______________________________________________________*He's late.* Ruby colored eyes flicked around the front yard from his perch in the tree by Kurama's bedroom window. *He's never late, unless he's playing a game.* He narrowed his eyes, watching Yuusuke approaching the house and go inside. *I am not in the mood for games.*
Yuusuke left the house quickly, grumbling under his breath, but the little youkai in the tree could hear him clearly. "Why did I get stuck with this? I mean, most people just stared at me when I started asking if they'd seen Minamino Suuichi, it's ruining my rep around here. I mean, I didn't even get to finish-"
He hopped from the tree then, landing beside Yuusuke as he started to walk away from the door and lifting an eyebrow at his rant as he cut it off midword. "Saying something?"
It took Yuusuke a moment to recover from the suprize of Hiei's sudden arrival, but once identity was established, he began to talk again, picking up his steps away from the Minamino household. "Shiori called our house in the middle of dinner. I was trying to finish my food, but since my mother had a date she just shoved me right out the door. Did you know Kurama managed to skip out on coming back from his school field trip today?" Yuusuke looked over to Hiei, who was giving him a rather more annoyed look than usual. "I'll take that as a no.. But really, I mean, how could someone lose Kurama? He tends to be rather obvious in a crowd."
"Hn." He saw no reason to contribute to the conversation at this point, though he was quite tempted to tell Yuusuke to shut up, he patiently waited to get any information he could use.
"Ok see, this field trip was like, a mini vacation for Kurama, right? What with it being in the forest and all, he might have just wanted to hug a tree or something." Yuusuke was headed off in the direction of said forest, digging around in his pocket for a snack since he'd been chased out of the house midmeal.
*Finally, something worth listening to.* He relieves his glare slightly, then reconsiders, turning it fully on Yuusuke. "Why didn't you say so? Baka!"
"I didn't think about it until just now, what has you so touchy today.... Hiei?" He glances around, confused; Hiei was there just a second ago.
He was concerned, not that he'd ever let Yuusuke see it, he was well aware that Kurama would go to great lengths to avoid upsetting his Ningen mother. The fact that Kurama hadn't even found a way to tell her he wouldn't be back had Hiei worried. *What did you get yourself into fox?* He runs his ruby shaded gaze through the trees, lips pursed in annoyance when he actually manages to catch a trace of Kurama's ki. *What are you doing!? Baka!!* He shook his head, striding rapidly in the direction of the overexuberant ki, constantly checking for any other signatures around him. *You better have a good reason for putting me through all this Kurama.* It went against his better instincts to care so much, but he ignored them, drawing his sword in preparation for a possible battle.
The first thing that caught his attention was the smell. It was distinctly of Kurama, and the intensity of it caused the smaller demon a moment's pause, ruby eyes closing out of reflex to take in the sultry fresh scent before opening again. His gaze resting intently over the folded shape of Kurama in his pink school uniform. He was rested against a large black stone, head bowed over his bent knees as he slept. His banner of crimson hair concealed his face, but his hand was gripped tight in his sleep, as though having a nightmare.
"Kurama?" He approached the sleeping figure with caution, gaze flicking around as he approached him, then resheathing his katana as he knelt next to Kurama. "Kurama wake up." A faint smile ghosted over his lips and he brushed at Kurama's hair, wishing for a moment he could be more open with him before banishing the consideration from his mind. A frown crossed his lips as he realized Kurama wasn't breathing any. "Kurama!" The last time was stated with sharpness, his hand going to his pink clad shoulder to shake him, a vine entwining his fingers with the touch. *What's this..?*
Hiei tried to jerk his hand back but it was useless with the way the plant was moving up his arm. The gathering of ki he tried to use to create a flame and burn the plant away with was merely sucked away, causing his vision to blur into darkness even as he tried to fight it off, fingers reaching far too slowly for his weapon. There was an almost audible sigh in the air as Hiei collapsed to the ground; a copy of him becoming perched in meditation atop the giant black stone appearing as his ki was thrown up along with Kurama's.
_____________________________________________________Yuusuke couldn't help it, the moment Hiei disappeared on ahead he started complaining. "This is too much! First I'm not even allowed to get through dinner, then I have to run all over looking for Kurama in places that I never have reasons to go to, and now, well, now Hiei ditched me."
He ran his chocolate colored gaze along the trees in front of him consideringly, his grumbles softening down to a low murmur. "I mean, why did she have to call my house anyway? He must have other friends out there." He tromps his way into the forest, ceasing his complains over why he was here as a bush gets tangled up in his leather jacket. *Gimme a break here..* He sighs out a breath, disentangling the branch before proceeding forward. *Looks like Hiei found him, they're together up ahead.*
He got caught up into another bush before he realized that right in front of him both Kurama and Hiei seemed to be relaxing there, as though Kurama hadn't sent a flurry of people into worry over him. "You can't be serious, you're letting him sleep Hiei?" His voice was incredulous, understandably, considering the kind of day he'd had.
Receiving not even a twitch by way of reply he approaches them, reaching out with his foot to prod rudely at Kurama's side. "Yo Kurama, wake up time." This movement causes Kurama to list to one side, drawn up knees curling over to the side and body making to follow. Yuusuke stops the overturning motion by grabbing his arm. "Kurama?" He shakes him then, still to no avail. When he reaches up to see if his attempts to revive Hiei would be any better he fails miserably, putting his hand directly on the great black stone. The reaction is more sudden than that of the other two; Yuusuke's ki leaving him in one rush that leaves him in a boneless heap alongside his false friends.
He watched Yuusuke collapse with something like amused bafflement on his nondescript features, the expression moving into pure glee as he prances out into the clearing to fetch the last of the three boys that he was sent to retrieve. *That was far easier than I thought it would be.* Having heard legends about how well these three did in the tournament, he found himself rather shocked that he could even manage to pull all this off using the same plant. *I won't question my good fortune for this; the master will be pleased with me.* He moved to the clearing, communicating with his flower softly, this particular plant keyed to obey his commands, he was lucky the Kitsune hadn't realized what he was doing or he would have ruined his plans, as well as his connection to the plant. The flower shrank down to the shape of a tiny bud curled into a small black stone before he picked it up, slipping it into his pocket. He then hoisted Yuusuke up into his arms and dragged him to the cart where the other two lay bound and warded as a precaution, just in case they managed to wake up. He bound Yuusuke, thinking about the rewards he would get for this. A large grin was on his face as he started the cart moving back towards the portal that would take him home to the Makai.
